I definitely think this is the way forward for gaming laptops. A really strong CPU (APU?) that can be upgraded for even better performance by a desktop graphics card. It's a really good idea. If they drop the 4k monitor stuff on the actual laptop. Totally unnecessary on that size of screen. If Intel/AMD/Third parties start looking at 720p gaming on the actual laptop (for better battery life/less heat etc.) and higher resolutions/ultra settings with the docking station and hdmi port, with the GPU of your choosing...I think they might nail it mass market. I'd certainly be interested.

I am a little surprised this laptop benchmark score came in lower than the minimum recommendation for Oculus Rift. All the specs seem to be in order, unless the 980m is less capable than the 970 desktop class card.

2 Points: -Benchmarks were fairly well put...but you should have turned off Hairworks for Witcher 3...Ultra can be run a hell of a lot easier with it off (I went from 29 FPS with it in to a playable 48 average on my GTX 960, and drastically reduced stuttering) -This is a HELL of a laptop...I thought this laptop would be way over $2000, but I look to see it is purchaseable for $1900... I haven't seen performance this good in a laptop for under $2000...even a $1000 4690K/GTX 970 desktop build doesn't perform this well...(Same can be said for 6600K/390 build)

OnlySpeechless So far everything I've tried works flawlessly. I play the Total War games which can be very demanding. XCOM 2 is also quite demanding on high settings. If you're playing new games with flashy graphics like Battlefield and Crysis then you'll probably need to use medium settings. In summary, you can run pretty much anything on high but the laptop does drain battery, gets quite hot and the fans make a lot of noise so you might want to use lower settings. However, it's very portable seeing as it's just a 15" so I use mine on the train.

I totally recomend it ! I did not playu arma 3 , but if you have the 970m or 980m definatelly will run . Wireless issues sometimes are from killer driver which they fixed , i do not have any issues atm .

Dear MW Technology, do you know whether it's possible to connect 3 external monitors (2560x1440 each) to this Alienware 15 R2 laptop? One can go from the HDMI port for sure. But the other two - can they be daisy chained from the USB Type-C port? The specs say this port support Thunderbolt 3 technology. Does it mean it can also carry DisplayPort 1.2 signal? If yes, then I guess it can support two 2560x1440 monitors in daisy chain, right? If yes, then what graphics card will it use - the dedicated NVIDIA or the integrated Intel HD?

There are some pretty scathing comments across the net on this at the moment and I want to be sure before I buy. Have you experienced the 4K version also? On video here that screen looks fine. I bought mine about 6 Years ago. Honestly ? It has been great.... until now. After so many years, the battery suffered some damage and needed to be replaced. And lemme tell you... it was a nightmare. For anyone in the same situation that hopes to Fix the problem all by yourselves, well, prepare to watch 10 minute long videos on how to dissasemble your laptop and about 1 hr to complete the whole ordeal. These laptops are cool and all for gaming and editing but, man! They are such a pain in the ass to get repaired. Even 'easy' fixes Like these. Either you do it yourself or you pay someone to practically open up your whole laptop. So yeah... awesome machines. Just poorly designed for the average user.

Gabrielle Basañ motion graphics and video editing is more cpu and ram intensive. Gpu might help, unless doing 3d work. If you're working in apps like after effects, max out your memory for faster performance.

Well I cant wait to buy my laptop soon. Going to college but since I'll be moving a lot between my home and staying with family during college I cant really bring my desktop with but want a good laptop that can play games around 60fps minimum at medium settings and be able to do my school work on the move. Hey actualy i want to ask you something about alienware laptops..i myself want to buy an alienware 15 cuz i just love this laptop..But the problem is this i have seen many many reviews related alienware laptops on google and most of the people claimed that alienware laptops have a lot of hardware issues..for eg :- it gets really hot while playing games, the LED lights sometimes dont glow, sometimes it doesn't get on etc etc.. Actualy i live in india and here no one realy knows about alienware laptops..Even when i go to DELL showrooms , they dont know much about all the models and some of them dont deal in alienware..Whenever i ask to a laptop expert whether i should go for an alienware laptop or not ,he would simply deny by saying that the life of alienware is less and most probably u wud face alot of problems...I want you to ask is it worth buying alienware laptops apart from its excellence in gaming field ??

+JiJi the graphics amplifier lets you use an external of grade gpu. So you could buy like a Nvidia 1080, put it in the amplifier, then connect it to the Alienware 15, and it would be as powerful as a desktop essentially.

Alienware is known for gaming performance, so yes you'll be fine. I have an older Alienware 14 model, but it's maxed out with 2 gb 765m, 16 gb of ram, and intel core i7 and i can run most games on ultra with no lag.

+craftminer49er do you even knows what is fps? why will tv display media that is recorded at 24.9fps faster? ok let my try to explain to you, if tv display media faster then it will be playing at let say 50fps but the tv programs are only recorded at 24.9fps, there are a 25.1 frames differents,how can the tv generate more frames. you can't play a normal recording at super slow motion because there are too little frames recorded, so if you slow down a normal recording it will make each frame longer in order to slow it down ,it will display a frame for like 0.5 second and turn your video to a slideshow, if you still don't want to change your stand then object me with prove, ok?
