I'm struggling to understand the "16gb is enough" mantra. Just got my wife's XPS upgraded to 32gb - it's night and day to 16gb. Chrome with YT, FB and couple of tabs open eats 8gb. i just ordered mine :D specs - Alienware m17 r2 RTX-2060 16gb ram 9th gen i7-9750 1TB SSD 144Hz FHD color : Lunar Light;(the same in the video) will mostly play apex legends DotA 2 and few upcoming AAA titles (cyberpunk etc.) i will undervolt it too as an Indian college student i prefer to buy this instead of area-51m because its so light and thin can be carried on the back without dislocating your shoulder looks like a decent upgrade from my Alienware 15 r2 (2016) which is heavy af . I loved the video just wanted your views on it, now i feel safe after the purchase :)

Not every processor can be undervolted to the same lever and because no one wants to under volt every single machine manually they give 100 volts place to play with just to keep it steady and not crash. It took me like 20 tries to find the best under volt for my laptop and still have it steady.

I got my m15 r2 ( same config as in your review ) yesterday . I have used 15 r3 , 13 r3 before ... This new design looks awesome 👍 Extreme test such aida64 SST kill this beauty with or without core voltage offset . Highest core clock speed I seen was 2.6 GHz . Thermo + power throttling under stress test ! Under normal usage such gaming etc. no issues ( core voltage offset -0.130 ) what so ever . GPU avg temp 66c , CPU max. 80c , avg 74c !! Only problem ( long run ) soldered memory 🙄🙄🙄 Extended warranty plan recommend !

I have the m17 with the 2080 maxq and all you have to do is raise up the back end with something as small as a beer bottle cap. That changes it dramatically and runs like a champ. It just needs more space to breathe. Nothing wrong with the components at all. I love my new m17. Its fucking gorgeous and it's a 100w 2080. Raise it up overclock it and it can blow through anything.

Tobii eyetracking is not just a gimmick. Its very useful and necessery for many people with disabillities. I have a muscular disease and use a electric wheelchair so i need the eyetracking to be able to use a computer. I have a older Alienware with eyetracking.

I mean come on lets be real here, if you actually need more than 16GB ram then you probably shouldn't be using a "thin and light" gaming laptop for whatever it is you're doing. 16GB is more than enough for gaming and that is exactly what this machine was built to do.

Capacity is not the issue here. Ram fails, sure maybe not as often but it happens, the board needs to be either scrapped or have the chips resoldered to it, which is a giant pain in ass. Upgradeability is a cherry on top. This goes for soldered on storage too

Dave, your video convinced me to buy this laptop. Even though the track pad issue remains, the keyboard is okay and my iphone has better speakers than the M15 R2, i LOVE THIS THING! The design and gaming capability is top notch. I even have cheetos regularly and it's still clean looking after 6 months. I will probably buy one where i can upgrade the RAM next time. I just wanted to say THANK YOU and that i am subbed of course.

As a tech enthusiast, here are my thoughts: Beautifully designed laptop. I love the aesthetic look. When you said the ram is soldered onto the motherboard, ugh, very disappointing. There are many videos online where dual channel ram can significantly impact fps performance, especially if you're trying to squeeze out an extra 20 fps or so. By only having one stick of ram, this is a single channel only. Thermals? Yeah, I figured something a little chunkier than the MSI-GS Stealth series would have better cooling - I guess not. Undervolting would work and changing thermal paste would work but like you said already: those options arent available to the average user.

@@anthonyabid7047 it makes the laptop less future proof. In Today's world you need a minimum of 8gb ram to run a game. Tomorrow they may demand even 16gb Ram. Then What? You are gonna replace the laptop where a lot of money has been spent?

@@grafzpln2344 I don't think there are laptops with 3 ram slots to provide 24 GB ram. Even if it's 16gb + 8gb you will lose the benefit of dual channel memory. That's why people don't want the ram to be soldered coz it is difficult/impossible to replace them.

Speaking of undervolting… Dave I once watched your video which is now probably like 2 ears old, did the undervolting, showed it to my brother, thanks to it his laptop doesn't have overheatting issues, he showed it to his friends who this video also helped. So I though that maybe it would make you feel good if you knew how many people you have helped. :)
