Ok one thing everyone here needs to keep in mind that if you can get a Alienware on sale with a good CPU and a good GPU you can just buy a case a power supply and a motherboard and you can just swap everything over . Is cheaper and better that paying over MSRP for a GPU

I attempted to do the case swap on my ALIENWARE R8. I wanted to install an RTX 3080 ti. Bad decision! Terrible decision! I did one thing correctly. Before I tore down my R8, I took many photos of the case and internal components and used blank return address labels to identify the cables, what they were for, and where they connected. I printed the photos and marked all the connection points. Before I began the disassembly, I realized that the PSU wouldn't have the power the swap would require. I also thought the PSU might be proprietary and wouldn't work for this swap. Not knowing what other components might also be proprietary, I gave up and said that this swap sounded like a good idea at the time but was not worth the time and cost of the new components needed to do the exchange. My R8 was reassembled, and I started building a new one. The R8 was deligated as my second PC. This is called live and learn.

I bought a RX 6800 XT to test and yes it is too big for the R10. I just cut a hole in the case so when I need to test any big cards I can just take off the front plastic piece to test.

I have an R12 since 2021/2022 and upgraded the fans/added one additional last year. In the next few months I am considering a case swap but I am an absolute novice. I understand I can take the CPU GPU PSU and RAM with me. In terms of a new motherboards, what do I need to look for? I imagine everything needs to be compatible..

I had an R11 and anytime I made changes the bios has a nervous breakdown. Even just unplugging and replugging the cooler fan. Finally I put a new Asus MB in one of my old Cooler Master HAF cases and moved everything out of the R11 case to the new one. Problems solved.

@@ZanderV-l6eYes. I felt the bios was not real stable so I got an ASUS motherboard. I moved the memory over to the new board and upgraded the processor a little. With the original R11 every time I did something in the case it didn't want to reboot. Even just unplugging and plugging the processor cooling fan caused it to not want to but for 10-15 minutes, just cycling over and over.

@@ZanderV-l6e I cannot say it was the entire motherboard but the bios did not want me touch anything inside the case. If I did it would either lock up on boot or take forever to reboot. The first time I upgraded memory it would not boot, just kept restarting. Finally I removed all but one stick. It took a couple minutes but finally booted. I then added the second stick of memory. same thing. Then I added the final two sticks and it took about five minutes of just rebooting itself over and over before it finally settled in. I have the liquid CPU cooler and wanted to install a push/pull set of fans. I unplugged the fan to get it loose. When I plugged it back in (totally stock) It locked up and did not want to reboot until I messed with it. I never removed the motherboard from the case. I just took a case I had, bought a new motherboard and moved memory, processor and cooler to the new case. Everything plugged in and he computer booted first time. no problem.

Cpu temperature down to 60c on gaming, it should be faster,but that really won't feel the difference on human eye,

Great job, well done....The motherboard on my R12 is bad, I need to do a case swap with a new MOBO....So I need a new case, a new MOBO, some PSU extensions and is the new AIO cooler necessary? Do you think I missed anything or have any suggestions? Thanks for the help and great video

You need a psu extension cable for sure, you need need change the aio depend what case you have, that pipe is short

I wanna buy the r13 but I’m afraid because it has proprietary parts and I want to be able to upgrade or change everything if I need to, I dont know much about pcs but other videos say you cannot swap or upgrade any parts including the motherboard because it is proprietary, but were you able to swap everything to another motherboard or just a few parts, also what is the benefit of swapping the case?

Usually, no need to swap the case, r13 is much better then old version, if you like to do upgrade or something, better just buy parts and build it yourself . I usually build pc myself,just a year ago can't find and gpu,then dell has the gpu so, the reason for me to do the swap is I got lots the old parts and the looking

A few things I'll help you out brother. 1 don't listen to this doofus the r13 case is horrendous. 2. You can salvage the graphics card and the CPU... that's it. Nothing else is salvageable. 3. You buying this trash dell PC is contributing to the waste problem this world already has. 4. Build your own it's much much much cheaper than trash alienware pc. Believe me it's really easy to build one all you have to be able to do is be able to read a motherboard manual and tie together cables.

This might be a dumb question, but can I just use the graphics card from my aurora and my storage and build a whole new pc? Is the GPU just plug and play or is it need an adapter because Alienware is so extra? bought a R11 with a 3080 and 10700K, but I want higher fps. So i’m thinking of taking my RTX 3080 GPU and building a whole new PC with it. I will hope also to reuse the m.2 storage. Beside that i am going to buy a new case, cooling, motherboard, CPU, and PSU. The motherboard on my unit is not on par with the other components and it is throttling performance. Also I need higher CPU performance as well. I talked to many computer friends I know and they said the dell PSU is a piece of crap so I should get a different one for my new build. Also I cant reuse the watercooler so that’s unfortunate. But i can buy a cool one with LED screen now if i want to.

You can move everything out from the motherboard and use on other, that's what I did, I use it psu on my old pc, everything thing else on my new motherboard including cpu , psu no problem on my old pc that my wife play game with me all the time, I think it's no big problem except it looks ugly, psu is the only thing that not make performance difference unit, you can use it until it broken

@@mynewtoys5468 no the big change comes from changing my CPU, which i plan to do. The games I play are very cpu intensive and not gpu, i know that’s unusual but this is my case. So i will need a better CPU and therefore a new motherboard and better cooling! Thank you for help :D

I don't recommend do a case swap if the heat not really getting worse, upgrade just a motherboard won't get much performance that you can feel, or you can build a new pc and use the graphics card and power supply, or memory if still ddr4,

If you want to keep it no errors you need put all front i/o cable plug in and the power cable with those led light too

My aio do has a fan hub, but my aio only has one fan cable, I plug in to the cpu fan port, and the fan hub cable plug in to the side fan doesn't work
