Cool to see the first impressions on this laptop. It seems that the thermals are quite insane this time around. I'm really interested to see the speaker performance on this machine seeing that they seem to have given it a bit of an update this time around. Also that transistion effect you had from going from the laptop in front to the screen becoming the screen was really clean. Your videos always seem to be gettin gbetter. Yeah Osamah I have the feeling like that is the perfect spec build. I think that it will probably be worth it if it’s not longer than a month longer you have to wait. Not sure exactly when it will be available though

Thanks for the sub Joseph! Working on the testing now and from what I've communicated with David from Mash IT the i9 is not worth it. Also I don't feel that the R2 is worth it over the much cheaper R1 from last year amzn.to/3LSAvgf . R2 is just way over priced for a very minimal performance boost

Looking forward to the comparison between the i7 and i9. Really would like to see a good comparison between the both since the only diff is clock speed, see if i9 is worth the extra money. Also I have read somewhere that the 3080ti in the GE76 can be overclocked to a higher tdp of like 200w. Is that possible here in Alienware. Any idea when the 4k panels be available. Yeah anoojlal, I'm definitely planning on getting the m17 r5 the moment it's released. I've been keeping my eye on the GE76 too since it it was my fastest machine I tested last year. I haven't seen the newest GE76s available anywhere yet though

Can you explain how you are upscaling the resolution with a 1080p display? I see you are choosing 1440p and 4k in the options for the games, but is it truly outputting at those higher resolutions? I always thought people bought 1440p/4k to downscale, but not the opposite. Thank you

Probably using DLDSR a new Nvidia feature I have been using myself at 1440p. Looks a lot better even on a 1080p screen. Not entirely sure how that's the case but it works!

Great question Dab! I’m actually recording the screen as a 4k HDMI output using an external capture card that goes into another computer that records it with OBS. So basically it’s acting as an external monitor. Those 4K tests are only useful for people that will be using an external monitor or plan to wait for the 4K version when it is in stock.

Are you running the alternative screen resolutions on the computer itself or using an actual external monitor? Wouldn't that have different outcomes

no because whenever it is performing a heavy graphic task, it switches to GPU only mode with or without viewing on an external monitor.

The lack of lighting for secondary key functions even makes it difficult to see those functions during the day time if you have the keyboard lit up. For anyone who hasn't seen it in person, it's not just a problem when the room is dark.

What External Monitor did you use to test the 2K and 4K settings? Also, is the MiniDP 1.4 on the R2 capable of streaming UHD HDR 60Hz with it’s 32,4Gb/s bandwidth to an external monitor? Hey Nero, no the FHD can't support UHD. Yes you'll be able to run UHD 60Hz to a monitor that supports that. I actually ran my tests through a capture card that went out 4k to my 4k Alienware m17 r3 laptop

Does the thermal limits actually work? I had the M15 R4 and the temps blew right past it. I ultimately got rid of it because of this reason. There are times where I need to make it dead silent.

What's the ambient temperature? I find a lot of North American viewers are in much warmer temps than here in the UK and I find ambient temps have a huge impact on laptop temps.

It is a good computer but it's just way overpriced. As I'm testing it, yes it is a little faster than last year but it doesn't justify the major price difference. The x17 R1 is on sale right now amzn.to/3LSAvgf and is actually a much better deal than the R2. I would definitely get the R1 over the R2 since there isn't as much performance increase as there should have been and it is way overpriced

Every laptop user should know this. 1. Just “raise the bottom” let more air into the machine and you will found cpu&gpu each them reduce 10~15°C or in high usage will have more efficacy 2. You shouldn’t be use “laptop cooler” , cuz that effectiveness actually just like you put two bottle caps under laptop to raise it. But the cooler still use your limited power and it will let cpu&gpu become more hungry. Unless it has an “independent power supply”. There also very many ways let your experience better , like “gamer most of the time should limit cpu’s PL1&PL2 and offset voltage” “discrete graphics card overclock”. “Replace the thermal paste and clean the fan dust”. Sorry my bad English,hope it's not too hard to read. Just want help you gus. From Taiwan

Hey Simone, that was the default but later I found in Windows settings the Performance Profile for power so that will probably help a little.

You make the alienware control center look useful. I can never seem to figure out how to interpret the profiles or create new ones. If you find the software to be useful then I think a video about how to use the software would be helpful

Good morning Justin, thanks for the video. I have the x17 R2 12700 3080ti, when on battery I noticed screen flicker and sometimes artifacting. Changed refresh rate to 60hz seems to solve it. Then i changed it back to 360hz and went into intel graphics center and turned of display power saving mode, it went away. Next day turned the laptop on and used on battery had same issue, so turn on power saving mode and the issue hasnt showed up. Will keep on testing it, please can you check your x17 r2 on battery and try surf the web, i already wrote to David he will try to check it on his x17 r2.also on reddit to people experienced it. Hoping its just software thing.thank you, god bless

Do you also have a comparison between the X17 and msi ge76 from 2022? I preordered the msi ge76 in maxed out - but I don't like the design. But I love the design of the X17! So now it's a hard decision for me.
