Aliexpress | Datafrog S80 Controller

I picked this budget little $10 controller from Aliexpress (Cuteliving Store) for some light retro emulation use. So lets see if its any good.

I'm not entirely sure if they are 100% made by Datafrog as I've seen what appear to be identical layout controllers by other names... or maybe Datafrog make them and licence them out.

Hi, I'm currently planning to get this controller and i just want to confirm if it has a full 6-axis gyro control since it wasn't explicitly stated on the product page I'm seeing. Thanks a bunch 😅

Hey, I don't think it does have Gyro, or at least its not something I've been able to test. The user guide talks about Gyro but then goes through instructions on how to calibrate joysticks to resolve drifting issues. I'll give the controller another test as I was using it to game last night so I'll see how it works on a Windows PC.

If that's the case then I might put on hold buying a controller for a bit, since every single controller that's around this price point seem to not talk about gyro that much, and I'm not sure I'm willing to bet if it has any, thanks for the reply I really appreciate it:D.

you can invert the analogue with the dpad, so when you touch the analogue it works like a dpad, this option can be activated and deactivated

Hi, the triggers are buttons. It's a great controller for old games or ones that don't need adjustable throttle/brake.

Sounds like you've paired the device in PS mode rather than Xbox mode perhaps?

why my back button's doesn't work

I don't believe there is software to map these buttons, its a case of button combo to go into "learn" mode and then the back buttons can be mapped to any of the face buttons. Unfortunately this then means there is no option of combo setup, like you can do with an Xbox Pro controller but it does allow you to map a back button to a face button thats tricky to press when trying to pull off a combo.

Do you know how to configure the rear levers? I want to put a configuration in Fortnite using those and it doesn't identify them

Pretty sure it's a button combo to map the rear pad to a face button. Not sure if you can map them to a combo. The paper guide has some basic information. I may do a revisit of this controller soon as I've identified a use case for it in my home. 👌

Don't think so, It just needs to pair to your device with some key combos.

I'd say the low cost wired Xbox controllers like the ones from PDP will be better, most of the controls will be worse but they benefit from proper analogue triggers. The Datafrog S80 is more like the Switch Pro controller where its just digital on/off for the triggers and no variable throttle/brake.

@@handheldgaming4life I did some research and I found out that the Gamesir nova lite is slightly more expensive but it has hall effect sticks (basically immune to joystick drift), wireless dongle, hard shell etc. So I think the nova lite is the way to go

Do you recommend this control for the switch? Doesn't it have drift?

This low cost controller doesn't have hall sticks so ultimately it'll suffer drift eventually. But the sticks are proper full size not the commonly bad switch sticks so its unlikely to suffer the level of drift some switch owners experience.

It was £8.64 when I added to basket but £10.37 delivered once VAT was added. Cheap but I didn't expect it to remain cheap. Much like the first few to buy the SF2000 got it cheap then prices bumped.... Wait long enough and it'll eventually go back down.

Unfortunately this controller doesn't have analog triggers, they are on or off, this is perhaps the only big letdown of this controller.
