Hey guys!!! I hope you're all staying safe and well during the pandemic. I was going to wait a bit longer before posting this video as it doesn't feel right to be posting fun videos at a time like this, but I know so many people are at home in isolation right now so i'm posting in the hopes of keeping people entertained. These dresses are made in China and the manufacturer has stopped taking orders at the moment because of the virus. They will be available again soon, but i'm not sure when. I’ve been made aware that since I filmed and posted this video, the prices of the dresses has changed. I’m so sorry that this has happened, I had absolutely no idea. I don’t know if it’s because the Australian dollar has crashed (it’s really low right now because of the pandemic - when I filmed this, $1AUD was worth around 75US cents, but now our dollar is only worth 57US cents, so there’s a huge difference in the conversion.) It could also be that the seller has changed the price because of the pandemic and maybe their business isn’t doing well, so they’re charging more. Regardless of what’s happened, I’m so sorry that the prices in this aren’t accurate now. I still stand by what I said about the dresses, but now that they’re more expensive, I wouldn’t rate them the same way I did before. I’ll update this post when I get more information from the seller. The seller made some discount codes (not affiliate) if you'd like to save money on your purchases. PASTEL8 10-8 Get US $8.00 off on orders over US $10.00 PASTEL20 150-20 Get US $20.00 off on orders over US $150.00 PASTEL30 300-30 Get US $30.00 off on orders over US $300.00

For a dress with lace all the way down from waist to floor you would actually remove the top layer and trim from the waist and put it back on. The lower layers can be shortened from the bottom in the usual way.
@kaitlynadm87684 жыл бұрын
The “plastic” on the first dress is called horsehair and is used to give the skirt shape ( it kind of ruffles at the bottom and so the horsehair keeps that ruffle shape in place)
@TheSuperHopeless4 жыл бұрын
Confirmed. I had this on my wedding dress and it looked lovely, but I think it was a nicer quality material as mine didn't look so crinkled. The other thing with mine was the stitching done to keep the horsehair in place was with clear thread to make it less visible.
@estylefree4 жыл бұрын
Yes, the horsehair is often on the lining so it isn't seen on the outer layer of fabric. Marchesa designed a lot of gowns with a beautifully purposeful horsehair trim. Example: www.net-a-porter.com/ru/en/product/1061434/marchesa/embellished-tulle-and-mesh-gown

Ex Bridal Consultant here! The straps on the pink dress are twisted in the back bc they are meant to be worn off the shoulder! This makes them lay nicer, and on higher end dresses, they will be twisted in the front and back. This gives a romantic, dreamy vibe 💕

I know it's probably not a possiblity at the moment, with the virus, but with how much you mention alterations and seamstress work, maybe an idea for a future video could be to actually go visit a seamstress and show them the dresses, have them price the alterations and give an estimation of how much time it would take them. I don't know if that's possible, but i think it'd be an interesting video^^

Yes this is a great idea!
@lyka05184 жыл бұрын
That really will depend on each seamstress though. It could be really cheap at one place but more expensive somewhere else. And take longer one place but only a few days somewhere else. So honestly that would just make it sound scary if she ended up going to an expensive one and people heard alterations were like $500 and will take 2 months (which is possible) when some places can probably do it for $100 in 2 weeks. It would also depend on the type of alterations each person would need.
@josie89974 жыл бұрын
@@lyka0518 i can see that being an issue, you're right, but usually you can tell what kind of price-range a place will have and if she clarifies beforehand what alterations would be made to fit her tastes, i think it could still be interesting.

As someone who alters a lot of dresses, for the dress with the lace that extends up the skirt a long way with an obvious seam around the waist, it would be easiest to unpick the waist and lift it there to shorten it, especially considering the lace around the waist would be much quicker and easier to remove and reapply when you’d shortened it as there’s not as much of it. That’s a big cheat for shortening dresses which have very detailed hemlines or impossible to remove lace! The last one I did like that had decorative eyelets cut and embroidered into the actual fabric so no hemming possible! 😉

Sorry, a bit of a party pooper here. I'm a seamstress, dressmaker and garment technician, self-employed. There is a reason why I don't agree to do alterations. For dresses like those it mostly is work that's more complicated than sewing a new one. Also people usually are not willing to pay a price that could offer a seamstress a decent living. Even as a garment technician I often get offered 10€/hour which basically is an insult. And never forget that there is a reason why these dresses are so cheap in the first place - despite all the fabrics, the laces, the meters and meters of seams... Imagine what a seamstress in China gets paid, so their employer can sell the dresses this cheap. I used to work in China as a garment technician. The cheaper, the worse. Like in: "They don't even offer a proper toilet for the workers" worse... You may not have to pay much money. But you sure should pay with your conscience.
@ariaalexandria33244 жыл бұрын
Professional seamstress here with a business 21 years old. I can back this comment 100%. First-workers tend to be spoiled and very used to getting things as cheaply as possible and are so disconnected from the source that it's easy to forget that spoiled-first-world cheapness leads to things like the Bangladesh factory collapse that killed over 1,000 people and maimed many more in a country with no disability safety net. These cheap prices are subsidized with the blood and lives of others. Frighteningly often those workers are CHILDREN. The age minimums are lip service. Factory owners will often hire anyone who claims to be of age, but you can tell when an 8-year-old isn't 14. Whether it's these cheap wedding dresses or cheap clothing in general. I encourage people to buy far fewer pieces (the toll disposable fashion is having on this planet is shocking and horrifying and literally destroying our planet) of better quality, which will cost more, yes, but fewer pieces make the difference, or buying second-hand. I love Poshmark for this (notice how I'm not even giving my referral code--that's because this comment isn't for making money, but rather to drive people to a site to get good used stuff). The overall expectation that new stuff should dirt-cheap has made it hard for seamstresses in safe places to get decent wages as well. If someone told Alex she's worth $5 an hour, that person would be yelled at. Yet that's what she's saying about others by advocating these dresses. She's saying others are worth too little pay for the work they do.

I altered a dress for a friend, it costed her 4 times the price she paid for her dress (it was a cheap dress but gives you an idea) and I made her a nice price cause she is my friend I felt terribly bad for her, but I had to unpick all the seams, alter the beaded belt, etc :/ I think that next time she’ll probably just ask me to make her a dress that fits her from the beginning

At 8:16 - I'm fairly confident that the straps are meant to be folded over for off-the-shoulder wear. Hence the lace detail is on the correct side - IF you wear those folded over as an arm decoration, and not as proper supportive straps. If you wear it tank top style - with the straps going vertically up over your shoulders - then it's going to be uncomfortable and also probably look a bit juvenile for that mermaid silhouette. *watches more of the video before posting* Ah yup! 28:15 during the try on, you stumble on the truth of it!

If you find someone importing from China. If you want to order from an actual independent seamstress in a first-world country, absolutely not. Look around on etsy or ask for offer from small - even one person - businesses. You will be surprised... For me it is driving me mad, how many awful quality clothes the people buy and think that we can do anything out of it. Even suggest to buy something good quality vintage or second hand tailor made, those are mostly adjustable, but these cheap retailers, they usually don't leave room or fabric for any alteration :(

Sentiment means more than price. Find something you love, be it from a second hand shop, online or even a regular dress shop. If it means the world to you, that's all that matters. It's amazing what you can find in the op-shops. A lot of bridal retailers will donate the out-of-season/off trend styles to places like Salvo's, Vinnie's, Lifeline etc. You can pick up a brand new gown for next to nothing, and still look as stunning as someone who has paid thousands. Good luck in your search, you'll find it when you least expect it... :))

It doesn't matter how much you spend on a dress, even if you have to make it yourself. your wedding look is a total look and when you add the bouquet and hair and all, all that matters is that you feel comfortable in the dress. Most guests will only remember the colour of your dress. I went to a wedding where the bride had made her own dress from cotton using a pattern for a medieval costume. It was gorgeous. My sister in law had a 1920s style dress made just from plain satin and for her hair just had a few satin roses. So her and so sophisticated. just a tip...its easier to get a simpler dress to look great, like the cheapest one here. They seem to mess up the lace, or don't use enough, when they're trying to copy a really expensive dress for really cheap.

The one that you really love, I **really** love the effect of the sequins on the second layer shimmering through! I personally wouldn't be comfortable with that deep plunge though since I'm bigger chested and prefer to be modest, but it is so gorgeous and I'm sure a skilled seamstress could maybe add something in there to cover that part up if you don't want that.
@katiemh12022 жыл бұрын
I wore a prom dress with a plunge like that and I’m relatively big chested, Fcup, and it wasn’t as revealing as you’d think. With the right bra it’s actually no bad but I’m sure a gifted and skilled seamstress could definitely fix it if you wanted them too :)

@maggiekedves4 жыл бұрын
Just so you know many times those pictures are stolen from couture dress maker websites and the Chinese manufacturer just try to make a cheap copy of them that is why you see such a difference and also sometimes when you look at the reviews you even see that no 2 dress looks the same because different seamstresses make those clothes from whatever material they have and some knows sewing a lot better than others. It is a true gamble what you are getting...

@zank1ga3594 жыл бұрын
Great video! The organza at the top of the second dress has no trim because it is meant to appear skinned tone, not obvious that it is there (As it did, posted during the rack review). The "dirty" look is an off-white antique color. There's a lot of women who have little to no money for a wedding dress. They now have some options.
@definitelynotashark17994 жыл бұрын
I kept wondering what she complained about there. This type of lace is like a lace front on a wig, e.g. Not supposed to be "visible", and can even be trimmed if you want. It basically gives you the option of a neckline without actually being exposed.

I got my engagement ring from a home shopping network. I have a 3.54ct Diamonesque (lab-grown Diamond) Solitaire, designed by Charlie Lapson, the man who designed the crown for the last 4 or 5 Miss Universe contests. You don't have to spend a fortune to get something you love. Coloured stone rings are big at the moment too. Whatever makes You happy, after all, you are the one who will be wearing it for a long time... :))
@sarasthoughts4 жыл бұрын
My boyfriend for our anniversary got me a diamond ring worth probably hundreds and we almost argued about it. I despise diamonds and worthless spending: it's much better to buy a pretty, cheap ring from a small business owner and spend that money on actually important things!
