The brown spot on the ball gown is old blood. If it were made in a factory, it's highly likely the person making it pricked their finger and they sent it anyways. I've gotten a dress like that before. The chemical smell is from where the packages are sent overseas and they're required to clean them with certain chemicals to kill any diseases so they won't travel over to your country. I have a $600 evening gown that literally smells like some sort of fishy smell because that's what the kind of chemical used to store it in smelled like. Also, the reason for the short dresses is most likely because it was designed in Asia and most women there are very petite. They usually don't take that into account when making the clothes.

Actually, that stain might be blood. It's relatively common to see blood on clothes and items from shein, wish, aliexpress, etc. And since the items are so cheap that means that more than likely that blood is from a factory worker. Those factory workers are extremely overworked to the point of exhaustion and bleeding.

Not from wish, but my wife bought her wedding dress quite cheaply online. it was only about AUS$300 which is reasonbly expensive for a dress but very cheap for a wedding dress. a similar dress would have been at least $1000 more to buy from a bridal shop. It actually looked great as long as you didn't look too close - lol. It also allowed her to be comfortable about getting it dirty/wrecked etc so was happy to dance and go a bit wild like even climbing a tree for the pictures.

I've watched this before but I just realized something. Safiya mentions a chemical-like odor coming from the ballgown, and I'm pretty sure I know what it is. Most clothing retailers put formaldehyde on clothes (yes, what they preserve dead bodies with) to keep them preserved while they are hanging in the store or being shipped. It's why you should wash clothes you buy before you wear them, especially clothes that have been shipped internationally since those require more formaldehyde to be preserved over a longer shipping period.

Please don’t order a wedding dress from wish haha. If you have no budget, there are other options. Thrifting, borrowing, even Amazon is probably a much better bet. Or buying a white dress that isn’t meant to be a wedding dress (white bridesmaid dress, for example). And it’s worth it to spend even just a little bit more and have a dress that will look nice and hold up throughout the day.

A good friend of mine actually spent less than $20 on their wedding dress... Their future mother-in-law found a wedding dress in like a thrift store or something and sent it to them, because if they didn't like it, they weren't out much money. But it fit them perfectly and was super flattering! The only problem was dumbly puffy sleeves, but a seamstress was able to tack those down a bit for very, very cheap. And they looked amazing for their wedding. 😊

I have a theory on the brown stain-- I think it's blood from when the person making the dress might have done something to get hurt. Maybe they pricked a finger (or accidentally run it under the machine while sewing). Maybe their hands were dry enough to crack, or they broke a nail or something. But my money is on that spot being a dried bloodstain.

With a bit of alteration the ballgown style and the black dress would be good general party dresses - but the others are awful.....sadly though they were probably made in a Chinese sweatshop by stressed and underpaid workers, so to expect a knock off to be as good as the original was misguided to say the least. But at least this was shown so, hopefully, it'll stop other people from being disappointed an maybe help put these sweatshops out of business.

I was thinking something similar. You can buy bridal fabric at Joanne's, only need a yard or two, and pick apart the Wish dress. Use the bridal fabric to make the torso/bodice of the gown and sew the skirt of the dress and any neckline details onto it.

Excellent idea! Years ago, I bought my first business suits at Woolworth's for about $8 apiece. They were good fabric, but looked cheap. I took them home and finished them. Added interfacing to the lapels, upgraded the buttons, altered the hemlines and sleeves to fit me exactly and gave them a good pressing. When I was done, they looked like expensive suits. Quality is all in the fabric and the details.

I made my own wedding dress as I'm very small and couldn't get anything to fit properly, or (being older when I married for the 3rd time) that was suitable. Instead of paying £1300 for a wedding dress that I would have had to spend another £300 - £500 to get altered to fit me, I went to the local fabric shop. Chose a pattern of a full length, slim, slit up the side dress with matching jacket, both fully lined. Material was satin in an oyster shade. Total cost including pattern, zips etc., under £30 and some time and effort making it. That was in 2004. I'm a widow now but I've kept my wedding dress and jacket.

For my wedding last year, I bought a $30 lace maxi dress on Amazon. I should say at this point that I am a seamstress and costume maker, and have made quite a few wedding dresses for other brides. The dress I got was OK, a bit large, but the sleeves were long enough and so was the skirt of the dress. I went to Joann's, bought some strung pearls, iridescent sequins, and a couple of appliques, and turned it into a nice somewhat glittery yet still classy dress for our beach wedding. Aside from the cost of the dress, it cost less than $20 for the supplies I bought to add on. It's really easy to do, especially with lace. You just follow the pattern of the lace and put as much or as little trim on it as you like. You can customize it exactly as you like, something you won't get in a bridal shop. I would encourage any bride to try doing the same thing. As long as the basic dress is decent and fits, and you decorate it as you like, you will look beautiful in it. And, you won't have to kiss $1500-$5000 goodbye for a dress you're only going to wear for a couple of hours.
