Ms. Townsend. I'm down in San Jose practicing in Santa Clara. They don't get on attorneys' cases (pun) when the lines don't match up exactly. But when they do, one's pleadings look and appear that much more polished. Thank you for these videos. Who would have thought that offices across the nation struggle with this!

Its a travesty that we still have to figure out such trivial issues and how there isnt a standardized software with preset font, size, and spacing. I know we can adjust this but how difficult can it be to make it premade.

So we have an issue that any of our lettering that goes below the line (i.e. y, j or g) the lettering is cut off when using exactly 12 with times new roman 12. Anyway to fix that from happening without adjusting the lining?

You know, the hell with all of this. Is their a pleading document 📄 program out that you can simply cut and paste the affidavit one typed up on a word document 📄 and paste it on a blank pleading paper that aligns it automatically? Simple!

I use a 2013 version of MS Word, and it looks like the very top line does not align with the numbers on the side. Is there a solution for this?

Alexei Kuchinsky - It sounds like you're working from a template that was designed for an older version of Word that someone saved as a Word 2013 file. In Word 2013, MS removed some layout options that are necessary to truly align the text with the pleading paper numbers throughout the document. If your pleading starts out aligned until you save, try saving it in compatibility mode (there's a checkbox for this as you save). If it's always off, you need one that was properly created in Word 2010 and kept in that version. ****If it's always messed up, email your pleading paper to me (laura at **lawofficesolution.com**) and I'll look at it for you, I can probably fix it and send it back.**** I have seen where some people get things aligned pretty well using just the features available in 2013 but there are some drawbacks and situations where it goes out of alignment which I won't digress into here. But consequently I have decided the best solution is to just keep pleading templates in Word 2010 format and save documents created from them as Word 2010 files. Unfortunately, I don't think MS intends to bring the necessary layout options back.

Law Office Solution I have the exact same problem! My old pleading template is not matching up now that I'm trying to save it in Word 2013. Do you make templates and Macros for 2013?

Mike McKneely I do have templates for Word 2013 but not for Word on Mac (not yet, someday...). I can probably help you with getting your pleading paper to line up though. I am tied up today but will call you when I can.

Law Office Solution Thank you very much. All of my PC office files work on Mac no problem so I think any word template will work. Look forward to talking to you when you have a chance. Your suggestion to the previous commenter worked for me too...I just used my older pleading template and kept it compar=tible with older word versions and it worked like before. Thank you!

How do you put in the firm name outside the margins on the left side?

Sorry, I am just now seeing this. I put it in a text box inside the header and flipped the text sideways. My Pleading has "different first page" turned on for the headers and footers so I have to put that textbox in both the first page and primary header. I set up the pleading paper plus text box in the first page header then copy/paste all that into the primary header (the one that starts on page 2).

I think the numbers on left margin you see on every pleading is 11 and it's Times New Roman. There is a video on here called How to Prepare and Format a Legal Pleading in Word 2016 by some attorney Jeff Bennion

Should be fine. I'm a senior litigation/trial paralegal and I can't tell you how many paralegals, AND attorneys, mess up formats in pleadings. Doesn't really matter in the long run as long as you follow the CCP for your particular pleading.
