Snapping to a construction line works the same way as snapping to a regular line. If you're trying to snap to the midpoint just make sure to hold down the Shift key while hovering near the midpoint.

Hi there, your explanations make perfect sense and seem very helpful. I can't really follow them though because you obviously use a lot of keyboard shortcuts that I as a beginner don't know and can't see. Please consider using a program, that shows your keypresses if you're not doing so by now anyway.

@@DesktopMakes short and sweet is something which is missing a lot on you tube. If I have a very specific basic problem and type it on yt it throws 20mins vid - i dont want to spend 20 mintues watching someones crap to find out it is not the answer to my querry. This short and sweet type, 90 secs, is just gold. If it is not my answear im not frustrated as it is only 90 secs. Just brilliant mate. I hope to see more of Short and sweet. Just like you buddy. 😜

Simply click on the circle's center point to select it.
@chrisdrake4692
@chrisdrake4692 4 жыл бұрын
Cool trick, but, it only worked on the sides - what you "usually do" is still clearly better, since it's the center - and it's way more frequent that you need to constrain based on the center than one side...
@ChannelHTS
@ChannelHTS 3 жыл бұрын
with vertical and horizontal lines how do i know what line to click first to go to mid point of either line
@DesktopMakes
@DesktopMakes 3 жыл бұрын
If neither item is constrained, the second click will always move. If one of the items are constrained, the one not constrained will move and the order doesn't matter.

Do you know of a quick tip on how to find the center of a cylinder? I am trying to place a small cylinder at the center point (end face) of a larger cylinder, but nothing I have tried will snap to the face on the larger cylinder. If I make a sketch on the cylinder face I can find it. But it seems rather of a waste to have to make a sketch just for this.
@DesktopMakes
@DesktopMakes 4 жыл бұрын
Create a sketch and hit ''p" on the keyboard to project the circle into the sketch. You should now be able to snap into the center point.
@muskateer10
@muskateer10 4 жыл бұрын
@@DesktopMakes I went in to Preferences > design -- and clicked the radio button (Auto project geometry on active sketch plane) to on. Now, I can hover over the center of the end pyramid face and the center attachment point shows up as a blue circle. So, I didn't have to draw a sketch-cluttering up the design- just for a "project". Whether this has any ill effects for me down the road...I have no idea. I guess if it causes problems, then I can just go back in to preferences and click on it again to turn it off.... lol **In my opinion this is a bug. I can center a hole on the end face of the cylinder without issue...Cylinder on a cylinder face just would not work. Being as these are both "primitives," they should operate identical. Anyway...moving on.
@DesktopMakes
@DesktopMakes 4 жыл бұрын
That also works. Just be careful as now it will be easier to set unintentional constraints when sketching.

Man - I LOVE your videos, but this is just not working on lines for me. You explain at 2:35 that alignment happens when you use the horiz/vert tool and click on each of the lines (say a vertical, then horizontal as you have); all it does is add the horizontal or vertical contrainst, doing nothing else. Please, What am I missing???
@DesktopMakes
@DesktopMakes 2 жыл бұрын
Hi ArielLensVideo. Make sure you're holding down Shift when you hover over the line until you see the little triangle which represents the midpoint constraint.

@@DesktopMakes Thanks! Just not working, BUT Works now, after closing out and re-loading. NOW, I am trying to align a body above the origin and that is not working; let's me select the center of the top face on the body, then ignores the origin (won't let me select origin as the 2nd point, or even a vertical construction line) in same Top view. This program can grow brain bananas pretty frequently, but not giving up.
