Aside from the nice hinge design, being fairly new to Fusion, the tips you casually dropped during construction were the best part of this video. Thank you!

When I create a new sketch by selecting the extruded face, the sketch is locked. I've tried multiple times, same result.

The new sketch shows a small lock icon, which means fully constrained. But it doesn't mean the sketch can't be edited. Just start adding stuff and the lock icon disappears.

Great video, well explained, excellent quality photography, clear and concise, no irritating music in the background. I'm printing with my Bambu right now. Instructions are really lacking in the "Quick Start" manual.

Does this work well with free orbit as well as constrained orbit? With my regular mouse, navigating around free orbit is quite a mess.

Is there a way to remove like this, but with an offset so the area removed is larger than the tool being used to do the removal? I want to make parts that join together using lugs that push into slots. I can create the slots using this technique so the lugs are a tool cutting out the area that becomes the slot, but I need the slot slightly bigger than the lug or the fit is too tight.

I'm an occasional user of F360 but having the Spacemouse Compact (the simple wired version). I was always suffering with the keyboard/mouse combo but the Spacemouse. It is very intuitive. Easy to use and to carry. It was superb investment.

Hi, I just came across with your channel and immediately subscribed. When I create an svg in Illustrator, I scale it to 133.33 % . Yup, that’s the magic number. Then I insert the svg into Fusion 360 and you’ll have an exact measurement as Illustrator.

That small detail you've mentioned at the end is crucial, as revolving a sketch placed on the X-Z plane and revolving an object around the Z axis which has parts offset from the X-Z plane obviously won't give the same result. Thank you for your efforts.

I don't think the revolved body from the sketch actually creates the same shape. The distance of the furthest edges of your key is a diagonal distance created from the original extrude, so the swept diameter of that extruded body will be a larger diameter than the diameter of the original sketch. the point remains that it is a pain to do all that and the new feature is a great thing, I just wanted to point out the results are not identical in this case. The revolved sketch approach doesnt' create a body that is equivalent to rotating the body. I see now (after watching the rest) that you noticed it creates a different profile for the reasons I stated, but I do think it's important to realize that the two approaches have different outcomes.
@DesktopMakes

Hi Bill, take a look at 10:14 where I talk about this. Notice that the projected sketch goes wider than the edge of the model to account for the rotation.

@@tgs1766 Man, I totally agree. I don't think it was totally clear that the two methods deliver different results, which was what I pointed out. I know the larger profile is pointed out later in the video, but it isn't totally clear at that point this means the first method produces a different results. Regardless, I subscribe to the channel and enjoy the content. My aim wasn't to nitpick, it was more to make sure that someone who didn't follow very closely understood that they were different outcomes.
@RandomSmith
@RandomSmith Ай бұрын
@@tgs1766 agreed, but the two methods do not yield the same shape, unless with hindsight (10:25), he could have gone back and would have had to take the center line to the outer corners of each of the 3 horizontal blocks plus one from the centre to the corner of the centre column (pythagoras, so not immediately obvious to everyone) which is a fair amount of work that this tool solves.

Thanks for the video and explanation. When creating your key, why the multiple sketches? I like short timelines. I get it if they were complex step. Just my two cents.
@DesktopMakes
@DesktopMakes Ай бұрын
They key was made with only two sketches. The second sketch was needed because it was on a different plane. The only way to keep them on the same sketch would be to enable 3D sketching.
@DesktopMakes
@DesktopMakes Ай бұрын
Gave this another thought and I could have created the entire key in one sketch. The second extrusion would simply be from the center plane instead of the front face of the key.

i needed my holes to be 45 degrees from perpendicular. I had to create one solid piece to represent the hole and create a 360 degree circular pattern from it. Then individually offset each body to create a full 360 degree loop of parts in the helix pattern and then i could create rectangular pattern to form the full helix all the way up the body of the tube. I could then select all, including the body i wanted to keep, make a selection set, then make a copy of the part i wanted to keep, before deleting the original body. That way i can use the selection set instead of highlighting over 300 bodies to remove when i come to combine components

The moving and centring part was especially my problem for trying to position an imported svg sketch into a model to extrude probably. What I had to do previously is "manually" move it, which made me very frustrated cause it wasn't symmetrical the more you zoom and caused me a terrible OCD... but no more, I now know how to center by a point and I love you for all the tips you've shown. Thank you!
