Alina is so good , a real prima ballerina and so beautiful. Out of 25 fouetté turns 17 of them are double and I think the 1st one is triple. and she does them the Russian style with her long legs. Way to go Alina, just fabulous.

It seemed to me that Alina did more double fouettés than single ( 25 total out of which 15 double) all of them done the more difficult Russian style and that is so hard. She e amazing and her performance is so effortless and incredible. My favorite ballerina. She is brilliant.

Torque=Force multiply by Distance. Stress=Torque divided by First Moment of Area. Stress over Strain. To have such beautiful extensions, I can’t imagine how much more pain she must endure everyday to train to this level.

I think it was incredible. Not perfect. But incredibly difficult doubles and executed well, not perfect, but well. And only few can do those. Very few in the entire world.

Usually ballerinas can't even do 32 fouettés in doubles. It was the most advanced! Incredible! Not perfect in the terms of the form and solidness, but almost perfect. She is so young and already are doing that! Wow!!!

She's not a particular favourite of mine but as wild and chaotic as her fouettés were it's amazing that she can do what she did, considering her hyper-flexibility and I can only conclude that she has worked incredibly hard to achieve this.

Every balerina here, who says her fuet[es were bad, they sholud teach us showing us their own videos making it "perfect" in response for this video, "showing the right moves" to us with the same music dinamics and tempo, with people, in a theatre and with an orchestra, and most important; with that energy of interpretation completely free of expressing that music, that moment in fouettés. thats the big difference of being Alina Somova. and be not critics but the ones who critisizes.

as someone who watches a lot of ballet videos of different ballerinas, i prefer less fouetjtes at a lower speed to this. it's just weird to watch. I CAN'T DO IT BETTER, before you ask. but a lot of dancers can, it just takes a quick search on this very website

Except Somova is doing TRUE RUSSIAN FOUETTES, so much more difficult than the 'norm.' I learned it both ways, and these are much more difficult.

I urge you to search "Natalia Osipova 17 Esmeralda" here on KZbin and compare her with Ms. Rojo's interpretation of the same dance. I feel she falls very short.

The fact that I can't do it doesn't mean I can't recognize when somebody else can't do it either. Do you need to be a fabulous musician to recognize a bad song or when someone is tone deaf? Do you need to be a famous director to recognize a bad movie? Her fouetées are SLOPPY, just look at her. She moves all over the place.

I'm just not crazy about her. Great extension, but she looks awkward to me sometimes. She does the movements, but there's not much style. I much prefer Evgenia Obraztsova. Much more style and ease.

There's nothing exotic about those fouetées. They were just plain sloppy, no limb control at all, leg flying all over the place and she almost lost her balance towards the end. Again, check Osipova in this variation and you'll see the difference.

Сравнивать Наталью Осипову и Алину Сомову на мой взгляд не очень корректно,разные темпераменты,разные фигуры,возраст и профессионализм...Осипова -это буйство энергии,Китри-это её роль,а Алина Сомова хороша в Спящей....мне даже кажется,что ей её длиннющие ноги мешают,она пока не справляется с ними....

Her fouettés aren't strong. Her leg is just like she was kicking karate. I am not a pro, but I try to make my fouettés strong, and to hold the balance on them

Just because someone can't do better does it mean we cannot notice when something's just plain ugly or wrong? I'm not a chef but I notice when my food is overcooked. I'm not a singer but I can tell when someone is singing off-key. This is a sloppy performance, by both dancers, btw; his jumps were weird and shapeless and her fouetées were sloppy and pitiful. Check the same variation by Osipova.

Somova is a good ballerina but absolutely overrated. Her technique is very very weak, and she's not artistically mature. I think they made a mistake promoting her to prima ballerina so early. She's improving with the time. Check Tamara Rojo in the same variation and you see a great ballerina, with amazing musicality, technique, and artistic expression. And PERFECT fouettés!

I believe your comments are incorrect. Sylvie Guillem is almost twice as old as Alina Somova, and when she was Alina's age she wasn't nearly as good as Alina. Do not judge Alina by this awful video. Judge her, for example, by her performance in Paquita Grand Pas. It can be accessed here on KZbin. Alina is the principal dancer at the Mariinsky and, in my view and in the view of many others, the finest ballerina at work today. She was grossly ill-trained and ill-rehearsed for this video.
