As a former Physical Anthropology student who didn't say no to taking a few archeology courses, I've always had an interest in Chichen Itza. It was very interesting having viewed photos of the site from late 1800's and early 1900's when the first known excavations of the site took place. I have seen many documentaries on the site. I can honestly say that your footage and explanations were better than a few lectures and presentations I've seen. You were wise to have arrived early at the site, which allowed you get excellent views of these buildings and locations, before the tourist onslaught began. I enjoy all your video's but this one slightly more than most. It is truly a great episode.

I climbed El Castillo 25 years ago...It is so steep , when you are on the top , you can't see the stairs..!!!! I had to go down backwards ...scary !! I could also go inside the piramyd , by a very small, hot and moisty , so slippery , stairway , to see an emerald statue .Guess I was lucky , since it is closed now,...I will NEVER forget that trip by bus from Cancun ! But so nice to see it again,,Thanks !

5:00 The Temple of El Castillo is an important indication that unrelated cultures (Mayan and Egyptian) can come up with similar architecture, technology, etc. 14:00 Yes, it was 2006 when the lady fell; before that tons of people climbed it. Last year one did illegally and was arrested. Actually it opens at 8AM so best to get there then to avoid the crowd and heat.

Chichen Itza was a place that Harriet and I visited back in our college days. It has changed a bit. Cleaner . The Mayan structures have always brought us there. While our friends were enjoying fun in the sun in Cancun, we were visiting the Mayan Ruins. A great tip Alina. Visit early to avoid the crowds. Thanks again Alina for bringing back more travel memories. Sending you lots of love. ❤❤ Harriet, Jim and Yuki. Richmond. Va.

I've also visited Chichen Itza 3 times the 1st and 2nd time you could still climb the outside of the pyramid. But the 2nd time a friend and I got to go in the side door and climb to the top, on stairs that are inside and see the full sized carved Puma that is inside the room at the top

Really enjoyed this one, Alina! You are like the best tour guide. You appeal to that sense of excitement, curiosity, and wonder in me. I like the facts you provide as best you know them. Don’t know why (and maybe it’s not unique at all), but I remember the name of this ancient place by thinking “Chichen Itza - Chicken Pizza” 🤪 Yeah, goofy, I know! It’s an amazing place. I especially appreciate the game field, where they played an early form of a hybrid between basketball and soccer. Being sacrificed as the losing team? I like what you said about “it adds meaning to the phrase ‘sore losers’”. Alina, thanks for this tour. Great timing with the crowds and the heat! And I really like that cold Starbucks at the end. You’re the best! Mucho Gracias, Seniorita !!!!! Safe travels back to CAN 🤗

You really need to be careful. I took a tour bus from Playa del Carmen last October. As it turned out, I was charged about double the going rate for the "premium tour" which included a stop at a "traditional Myan village" (it wasn't), a buffet lunch, a Chitzen tour and a stop at a cenote. It was a milk run. The bus travelled south about an hour and a half picking up-passengers before heading toward our destinations. After it was over, I was stuck on the bus for two extra hours dropping people off before finally bringing me back to Playa. Chitzen wasn't crowded and well worth visiting. The Cenote was the best part of the tour - amazing! I think the best way to see Chitzen is to rent a car and plan the day. It is not difficult to get around the area. You will save a ton of time, have a more relaxed tour and probably save cash!

Excellent learning experience you had here. Thank you for learning all about the history of each place you showed us. I think we all got a wealth of information and proves that many I bet miss this very interesting place. I for one never knew it existed, and this sharing you did is another of your very informative videos. It is sad that a lot of those monuments were not allowed to get too close, it is probably for the better that they were. Before you told us that, I wondered if you were going to climb all those steps on the pyramid, I am glad you didn't because it would have worn me out for sure. You have a way of putting us all in your pocket a lot of times, that is why we always enjoy seeing things through your eyes. A day well spent, a wonderful time for learning. Stay safe, and we look forward to many more. Cheers to our wonderful friend from Michael & Alona! Cheers!! 💖👍

Thank you for your vlog on Chechen Itza that not only showed the step pyramid but other archaeological sites also. Although seen plenty of documentaries on it but it is a different experience seeing through the eyes of an educated ( about history and archaeology ) vlogger . The ancient alien theorists claim that the pyramid was built by aliens rather than the Mayan themselves. What do you think ? Did it appear anything like that to you ? Also I am surprised to know the level of restriction on photography of the pyramid where it is no more a sacred place of worship or reverence to the present population of the area or country.

Excellent job as a Tour Guide Alina! We have been to CI. 2X and did paid for the guided tour the first time and you covered about 80% of the tour we were on , so kudos to you. When we went you could climb to the tops , but coming down was treacherous because the steps were narrow and close together , so the had a rope you could hang on to , and slide down on your bum.. And the heat made the climb up and down more precarious. The vast size of the complex has still not been cleared , and covers several square kilometers. Definitely worth the trip. Well done E.
