Hi Aaron, I just ordered one of these Event sacks for my Mountain Hardwear Phantom 0 F down bag due to your video. In the past I have used Sealline sacks that have the one way valve to release air and they have worked well. I bought this S to S sack because it weighs less and does not need a valve to let air out. Less to fail. Thank you.

Thanks for the detailed review. Any advice on long term storage for a nylon sleeping bag? Is it okay to keep it stuffed in a sac or keep it open? I keep my down bag open during off season. Do I need to do it with my lighter nylon one too?
@ALinsdauАй бұрын
Keep the sleeping bag in a big, loose laundry stuff sack or totally flat under your bed if it's safe (no pets, kids, etc). Don't leave the sleeping bag compressed.

Hey video i have a down 800 + and want to know what is the longest you would have it in a compression sack , if i pack it the day before than spend 2 day traveling on plane then spend a day in the hotel than start the hike it can be 4 /5 days is that to long or what do you do when your in this spot ? thanks
@ALinsdau6 ай бұрын
According to Western Mountaineering, their testing shows AS LONG AS the down is DRY, it'll be okay for a "long" time. I just left my WM Puma stuffed in a compression bag for a week while waiting for clear weather to fly to Denali - it worked just fine.

How long would storing a bag in a sack be too long?

It's best to store in a loose sack or flat under a bed long-term.

I believe it is. It looks like they have changed the name. They also changed how the straps are attached. My buddy who skied across Greenland with me, had the newer version of the bag.

Do you think that compressing the bags as much as you do has had an effect on their respective temperature ratings over the years? For example, do you think your Antelope bag is at this point just as warm as it was when you first bought it? Or do you think that it’s more like, say, a ten-degree bag at this point since it has been compressed so much and so many times over many years? I imagine that the down has broken down to some extent over the years and is now less lofty and the bag less warm.
@ALinsdau4 жыл бұрын
According to WM, there's no effect - AS LONG AS - the bag was completely dry when it's squashed. I've never noticed a drop in ~20 years of use.

What size compression sack do you reccomend for the Megalight sleeping bag? Thanks.
@ALinsdau4 жыл бұрын
I use the 20L sea to summit sil-nyl bag: amzn.to/33D8jZ2 You do have to be careful with it, as the fabric isn't super tough but it gets the job done.
@NeffiKristensenfilm4 жыл бұрын
@@ALinsdau Thanks for the reply. Is there any reason you don't use the eVent Compression for the Megalight? And would that also be the Large / 20L eVent Compression that would fit the Megalight bag?

hi! I'm new to backpacking, I figured itd be worth a shot posting a comment. what size do you recommend for a kelty cosmic down 0 degree bag?
@ALinsdau3 жыл бұрын
You could put it in a Sea to Summit Large (20L) bag with some work. It'd be pretty near-impossible to cram the Kelty Cosmic into a Medium since the Kelty is 4 lb. 9 oz. / 2.07 kg. YMMV. Honestly for a bag that heavy/big, I'd get the Sea to Summit XL (30L) and then avoid the struggle when you're cold/tired. The few extra ounces will make it worth it when your hands are freezing while stuffing the sleeping bag into the compression sack at 3am on a cold mountain. :) Sea to Summit Event Compression Dry Sack: amzn.to/2Ynf2Te

;-) me again: what size do you prefer for the long ultralite with a volume of 8l? the s/10l or m/14l? thx again!
@ALinsdau3 жыл бұрын
The 14L would be much easier to stuff. Plus you can add down booties to the bag and still have some space. You can always cut the straps.
@masterbrain65613 жыл бұрын
@@ALinsdau yes, that where my thoughts too ;-) so i've ordered an exped 13l compression bag plus the schnozzel for pumping, cause it is the only one, which compresses horizontal, which makes much more sense (for me): www.exped.com/germany/en/product-category/packsacks/waterproof-compression-bag-s-red

Hi Aaron!!! I am trying to downsize on gear but my sleeping bag is a Rab ignition 5 (I don't do down as I'm vegan) I LOVE my sleeping bag but I've not been able to find any help in compression sacks for it as she is a bit bulky. Does the stuff sack work the same for pyrotec or can it compress more? Thanks for the videos. I LOVE them. 😁

These sacks work great but you need to get one bag size bigger. Synthetic is a tough one.
