In the manga, the other characters make fun of her for her big eyes. Her only biological part is her brain. Wait till you read about the sport of Motor Ball. I heard that was the only scene the manga artist made before he signed the contract with James Cameron. I should make the Pod racing scene in Phantom Menace look like a soap box derby race.

Her eyes are actually supposed to be a little disturbing. As I understand it, she was on that scrap heap for centuries, during which time the technology to make synthetic features that are naturalistic but not realistic has been lost. I think it kind of symbolizes her struggle to find a place for herself in a world she knows so little about.

that's just the beginning... far ahead in the story (in the manga), Alita becomes someone as strong as Son Goku or Superman.

Cameron also co-wrote the script. Honestly, I didn't know what this was until a casting site I visit, which if you are a member allows you to download the casting sides script portions, and Atila was one of the films on there earlier this year, and the sides for Creed 2 and Eqaulizer 2 are currently on there, among many others.

I don't think that you can really use the term "uncanny valley" with this movie, though... Alita is not supposed to look entirely human. And let's be fair, with that rendering tech, with regular features she would pass for a human. :)

I think they actually dodged the uncanny valley by making her eyes bigger. Alita acts great as a visual bridge between full-human characters and all the crazy cyborgs in the movie making everything actually much more believable and fitting together.

Thank you for the reaction! I enjoy watching reactions of those unfamiliar with the source material. The eye comment is everywhere. However, it's almost a Catch-22 for anyone live-actioning an anime. There will be those applauding the "bold" choice and others crying about trying to make a live action anime look too much like an anime...It's a great manga, but this definitely pulls from the anime adaption from the 90's. I'm confident Cameron's near 10 year desire to do this movie will result in a good movie.

We watched the 90's anime. There's a lot there that could be expanded on and cleaned up slightly for a highly enjoyable 2 hour movie. We have high hopes.

I'm also worried about that, because I think the manga is superior to the anime, but I'm pretty sure they are not. Did you see the CCXP 2017 (Comic Con Brazil) panel with Landau and Rodriguez? They mentioned that motorball will be included.
