@trikebeatstrexnodiff9 ай бұрын
oh wow, it's a shocker for me to see most people prefer society of the snow to alive. i remember really enjoying alive when i saw it a year ago. SOTS on the other hand, i got a bit bored watching the first act ngl. the rest was great though, and of course it's more realistic. while SOTS was coming to its last scenes i concluded, 'alive was more engaging to watch, but i felt and understood the people, the cold, the hunger and their overall suffering more watching SOTS.' both solid movies imo. respect to everyone involved making them and of course respect to the survivors. i watched a vlog of a Turkish traveller visiting the museum on this event in uruguay and i learned so much technical stuff about it and how exactly the crash happened. just incredible and so raw how clever and determined they were to go through all that struggle... life is still worth living as it always was from the very first moment it started. from the single-celled beings to huge complex animals... everyone's goal is to go and live a bit further into the time. that's why i love any survival story and the way they are told since they can also be a great way to cope with undesired thoughts.

The thing with alive is that they hate that they tell the story wrong and in a "funny adventure" like, althought it is a tragedy
@Omega18678 ай бұрын
Parts of Alive is actually not true to the events. That director made it too campy and even included things that didn’t actually happen. The survivors were not impressed from the beginning but that studio had rights to Piers Paul Reads book so some of them joined to try and make sure it was mostly told accurately at least. Of course you’re gonna “get bored” with the first parts of Society. It’s a true story of those boys trapped for 72 days in the Andes. It’s not a survival adventure flick like what Alive turned it into. And that’s also another thing that the survivors didn’t like, Alive dramatized their story and that’s what they didn’t want. Alive brings back nostalgia for me because I did enjoy it as well back in the 90s but I can’t anymore with seeing how bad it is in terms of acting and especially the fact that they don’t even have the real names.

@PointReflex10 ай бұрын

SOTS had most of the survivors clean cut, even 2 months later. Also in SOTS, all the survivors were always wearing earth tone clothing. The real pictures taken, showed that some of the survivors wore bright colors, more reasonable too, as you would want to wear bright colors if you had them, so that planes can spot you better. The snow in SOTS looked grey most of the time, contrary to mountain snow, where the pure clean white snow combined with the sun can cause you blindness. Even the blood was dull, people don't bleed brown blood. It's one thing for the event to happen in 1973, it's totally another to shoot a film like you are using 1970's equipment, making the scene appear dull. Black & White worked for Schindler's list, as color was not used yet in 1940's films. 1970's had color already, I don't get why they used dull tones, as it looked too fake, they might as well filmed it in black & white, if they didn't bother showing true color of the scene.

I think 'Society of the Snow' was incredible and the best movie based on those events. However, 'Alive' (and the book it's based on) introduced me to this story. I'd have probably not heard about it otherwise. With 'Alive', once Nando & Roberto reached the river (after a short montage) it cuts back to the plane and then it's the rescue. I really liked how this showed the encounter with Catalan and the reading out of the survivors names by the father of Carlitos Paez. Incidentally, the real life Paez played his own father. 🤗

Seen alive before and i just watch this movie today. I cant blame myself not to compare them. 2 different era 1993 to 2023 . Its a long yearsss gap to do a remake, 29 years Gap but the story is the same. But now the visual effects is impeccable and of course they include 2 of the survivors i think in this movie!

I saw a Tumblr post saying that Hawkes Parrado was a hero from the very beginning, while Pardella’s was an ordinary man who did extraordinary things for the chance to see his father again. I couldn’t agree more. I feel as if in Alive, from the beginning certain characters are presented heroes and others cowardly, and you know who is going to be the strong one that “saves everyone”. In Society of the Snow, I feel like everyone starts off cowardly and is pushed to step up as a hero because they are needed. It feels like in Alive, the director saw how the event had shaped the survivors and decided that that’s how the survivors must have been there entire lives, while in Society of the Snow it feels like the writer had a better understanding of how trauma can change people; though I may just be biased because I watched Society of the Snow first. I also never understood why Alive cut out and replaced certain people.

Both films are amazing in their own ways and yes Society is much more faithful and the actors look the parts but that doesnt mean Alive is any less impactful and a testament to their survival. When Alive was made a lot of the deads families would not give consent to use the names of their deceased relatives so they had to make up names and slightly fictional versions of the real people. Both films are a legacy to their endurance and survival and should be viewed for years and years to come to keep the memories of the living and dead alive for many years to come.

I'm not here to say one is better than the other, because it's not really possible to fairly compare them - too many variables. As someone who saw this in the theater as a 17 year old in 1993 (Alive), it was not the "Disney version" at all. My friends and I were speechless when we left the theater. About an hour later when we started to talk about it, we all felt the same way -- worthless, bratty , unworthy, ungrateful, and we all felt the same way.. The airplane crash scene alone (especially at the time) was completely shocking and disturbing, more so than most horror movies I'd seen by then (and I'd seen most of them). I'm just saying that a movie that could evoke SO much feeling, thought, emotion, and render a group of teenage girls and boys speechless for an hour, it's very hard to trash this movie,/say it's not as good, when it was made 30 years ago no less with a much shorter run time And following Hollywood's rules.

Alive was an excellent movie but Society of the the snow beats it. The end in Alive was too short and compressed, with leaving the audience with a feeling to know more about it. In the Society of the Snow this part of the story was entended and remarks the epic of it. Worth mentioning is that 30 years have passed and technology (i.e. drone footage) plays on Society of the Snow's favor...

I can't understand people. Without "Alive," being out first, 30 years earlier, can "Society of the Snow," dissect what "Alive," did & improve on it with modern technology? What "Alive." did in 93' was an amazing achievement & a great story told to people that had no clue that this ever happened. Repeating the same story with new technology & correcting a few measly mistakes, does not tell a different story, it's the same story retold a second time on film. Star Wars was the original story, when the Phantom Menace came out nearly 30 yrs later, it had all the new technology, but the story fell well short of the original. Even though Society was a very good film, it did not grab me like "Alive" did, thirty years ago. Why? Because as you see in this side by side comparison, just about everything was replicated from the original film. I could see newbies who got blown away when discovering this tragic & heroic story in 2023, but to someone that was blown away thirty years ago by watching "Alive." & then reading further about the true story right afterwards, a rehashing of the story in another film, doesn't do anything for me in 2023. If I saw "Society" thirty years ago & Alive as a new film in 2023, I'd be making the same argument for, "Society." The original is always more groundbreaking & deserves more accolades. Simply polishing a medal, making it shine, does not replace the work in making the medal precious in the first place.

You are looking at this issue from an exclusively American point of view. The Society of the snow is a Spanish film. All the Spanish-speaking people of the 70's found out about the disappearance of those men and it was quite a shock to learn through the news that there were survivors after 72 days. In current generations we have heard this story through anecdotes and/or interviews that survivors have done in the media. You may have needed the film Alive to know this story, but there're many countries that didn't need it. Alive could be the "original" film for you, the Mexican one (made in 1976) could be the "original" for a Mexican. It's just a POV of a real event. What's more, when Society of the snow came out I found out that in Mexico and the US they had already made films about this.
@Steve-eh4db8 ай бұрын
@@Rizos90 I was not aware that there was a previous film before Alive. Thank you for that. This is not suppose to be about Spanish speaking or American. An American film of Spanish speaking survivors from Uruguay. There is certainly a bias being built by those who are overprotective that the film is done in Spanish about the survivors who spoke Spanish. Something that most are just learning of the story today. There is no need to demean, if one was asleep to the previous film.
@Rizos908 ай бұрын
@@Steve-eh4db If what you say were true, there would be many more people who would prefer the Mexican one over this one (Spain isn't the most beloved country in the Spanish-speaking world for historical reasons), but this is not the case. Both Alive and Surpervivientes de los Andes tell the same story but from a perspective that didn't satisfy many people and also included situations that never happened in real life. Those most critical of these films were the actual survivors and the families of the victims. So there was a desire on the part of many people to do something closer to what they experienced and how the survivors experienced it, and to pay tribute to the victims. From that desire this film was born, and not only It has the approval of the survivors and families, but three of them appear in the film. I can understand that you may find it boring, Society of the Snow isn't an action and adventure film, but rather it's a dramatic and reflective film. A film like this is not for everyone.
