Having written myself six mystery novels may or may not add to my credibility in the matter, but I emphatically believe Martin Cruz Smith to be the finest crime novelist in the long history of such work. More than anyone in any land, he has blurred, nay, obliterated the distinction between mysteries as genre novels and what is thought of as literary fiction. I'm very glad now to learn of his battling Parkinson's with this fascinating new technology. May he and Arkady give us more adventures. I can think of few things more rewarding to look forward to. I love his work and I have read all his books. What can I say except that he has done enough but I will always miss the books he did not write. I was a boy in Japan and my favorite character is Harry Niles and my favorite woman is Michiko 満子
