I would agree if it was in USA or a peaceful country you dont want this. You are talking about the most hostile location of a hostile region having a lot of cameras and police. It has probably prevented a lot of fights and deaths between the two sides who are basically at war. The Israeli footage literally helped the Palestinian man be proved as innocent, it sounded. Camera footage works both ways, it keeps the Israelis honest too because footage can leak or be released. For such a hostile place, footage promotes better behaviour from both sides. So saying that cameras in this one extremely hostile place on earth is like 1984 is a stretch. A bank vault also has a lot of cameras and policeing so do airports. Those places make less sense to have surveillance than Jerusalem.

Just a side note on the efficacy of guns and the Hollywood dreamworld most gun nuts live in. Watch closely the video part where Zatara is shot. Every little blast of tree bark, water from the puddles, and concrete from the wall behind him denotes a missed shot by those soldiers. Indeed the guns are effective to have quickly dispensed with this poor soul, but at that range, the first soldier with the handgun missed at least four times, and the ones with rifles missed nearly ten times, recklessly allowing ricochets to bounce all over that thoroughfare. Also note that one of the first shots hit Zatara squarely in the abdomen, and he appeared barely fazed. Such is the power and the resiliency of conviction, whether just or not, this man was COMMITTED to his quest. He was shot in the abdomen and still stood in defiance of these cowards.
