So most Plains tribes came up of and adopted a method called the Counting Coup. And it was a method that encouraged warriors to simply touch an enemy with their hands, bow or a coup stick without killing them and escaping that unharmed as the ultimate form of honor and pride.

Attawapiskat Chief Theresa Spence started her "Hunger Strike" near the beginning of December. She has admitted that she snacks several times a day on fish and moose soup. Between her and her boyfriend they also make over $270,000 a year. Meanwhile she protests because her Reserve of around 1,500 people live in poverty. Just a lot of questions that need some looking at.

It is hard to help those that refuse to help themselves. In native homes there are generations that never work and rely on welfare handouts. Real help would be to force all able bodied men and women to work for nothing greater than the pathetic money that welfare offers. This would motivate all those professional victims to find better paying jobs or at least minimum wage jobs. Next if they refuse work they are moved to prisons and it would not be comfy nor a picnic.

One of the items that is coming to light is that we need to get rid of the racist Indian Act. It is disgraceful that Canada still has laws that assign right and privilege based on race. A lot of Canadians are demanding equality.
@inimalPsych11 жыл бұрын
It is unfortunate some native demands seem to promote the Queen exercising more power in Canada than she does in the UK. It's a total political non-starter; were the GG to remove Harper from power or try to seriously influence policy in Canada, the nation would almost certainly leave the Commonwealth. There is already widespread support for this, even without the INM context. There has to be a better strategy than that...

The reserves have better water treatment plants than most Northern Ontario towns. They get there`s for free and we have to pay for ours. It`s not the tax payers fault that the reserves dont have qualified operators to run the water treatment plant. They wont hire some qualified guy from outside the reserve but would rather hire the chiefs cousin.

95% unemployment with natives in Canada. High number considering they get free schooling.

I lived in the north and also knew many native Canadians. There were good ones and not so good ones just as in all races, though there is only one real race-the human race. I see and hear too much negative comments about aboriginals and believe they have a right to what they are doing. It's the same as African Americans did in the 50's and 60's and they went through the same derogatory and negative insults trying to achieve equality. I get angry when I hear the racist remarks .

Unfortunately the Aboriginal Affairs Department pretty much controls the reserves with an iron fist by making confusing laws and regulations on aboriginal peoples that makes any sort of effort to lessen poverty and provide jobs impossible. You want natives to take care of themselves? Then get rid of the Aboriginal Affairs and give at least some of the land back to the First Nations (especially sacred sites).

natives where conquered by a more sophisticated civilization. Things like this happened around the world for thousands of years, we can't go and give back land to peoples ancestors that where conquered hundreds of years ago. The only right thing to do is make sure everyone has the same rights.
@shirehorse9111 жыл бұрын
Comparing native Canadians to Blacks in the 50's isn't accurate. No one is keeping them out of jobs or education. In fact, the government spends a fortune on paying for native post secondary, health, and housing. The problem is that there's a high level of unemployment and lack of eduction amongst traditional communities. To change this they have to leave the communities which they refuse to do.

@1westsideproduction I am going to disagree I didn't see Harper out there blocking me from getting to work I will admit that I am not happy what his is doing in office however I handle it by not voting for him and respectfully documenting my concerns to my mp not by forcing it on all Canadian citizens and I believe natives are doing the same thing that has worked in the past for them not just trying to be heard but trying to intimidate them in to keeping them quite

Sure there's racism, but it's hardly the American South LOL. Racists are always going to comment and it doesn't represent what a people think. Saying natives need to work and that the leaders are corrupt isn't racism. When it's an honest evaluation of the situation it isn't racism. There are serious problems in the native community that need to be addressed.
