Five Syrians, among the thousands fleeing to Turkey, reveal their hopes, fears, and why their homeland just across the border now feels like a world away.
Syria's civil war has been raging for three years, leaving hundreds of thousands displaced, injured or dead. Two-hundred-and-forty thousand Syrians have sought refuge in Turkey in the past three years. Fifteen thousand of them have come to a camp at Öncüpinar in Kilis province, right next to the Syrian border.
Syria: So near, so far follows the daily lives of five Syrians in Öncüpinar, struggling to come to terms with life in exile, in an alien environment, cheek-by-jowl with thousands of others. It is about their concern for their own and their families' futures - and what Syria means to them as their country continues to be torn apart.
Al Jazeera World is a series of one-hour documentaries showcasing films from across the Al Jazeera Network. This series includes films shown both on Al Jazeera's Arabic channel as well as its Documentary channel.

Let me just say this is the first government despite all the bombing and the poverty within the country is actually giving the people in the camps money even though it isn’t a lot but it’s something . Makes me smile knowing that the government itself is poor but it tries it’s best

Believe home might have a deep meaning for you but for some it means nothing at all. That's why there is such a big problem with economic migrants instead of staying and making their own country better if they all got together the so called gangs wouldn't stand a chance instead they leave and make it so hard for people that are leaving for war genuinely
