The assassination of Haiti's president is the latest upheaval for the poorest country in the Americas.
Gunmen raided Jovenel Moise's home in the capital, killing him and wounding his wife.
Police say they've killed four suspects and arrested two others.
Prime Minister Claude Joseph announced a state of siege lasting two weeks.
Haiti was already struggling with political and economic turmoil.
Can more chaos be prevented?
Presenter: Mohammed Jamjoom

Though I have zero connections to the country, honestly I feel totally gutted for Haiti and the Haitian people especially and my deepest condolences go out to everyone affected directly and indirectly. Speaking completely objectively, few countries have had to struggle through so many national tragedies and other insurmountable obstacles (to put it very mildly) put forth by forces outside its borders. Be it natural disasters, global pandemics or foreign assassins as we see here. Of course I’m purposefully avoiding discussing the obvious questions about who ordered the killing and so forth. I just wanted to point out that one would be hard pressed to find another country in modern times who seems to keep getting dealt terrible hands time and time again. But of course I can’t speak from first hand experience. Stay strong my Haitian brothers and sisters. You all deserve stability as much as anyone else.

Not to mention they want access to the oil and gas.Hatiti,Cuba,Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic and their offshore waters hold 142 million barrels of oil,159 billion cubic feet of gas. Undiscovered amounts is as high as 941 million barrels of oil 1.2 trillion cubic feet of gas. This has corruption written all over it all the way to the top. The people are only ponds and distraction while they gain power over them now the have access. Right... I think Jovenel knew what was best. As much as I know.. Every country cannot run in a democracy.. Haiti seems more fit for a semi democracy..not British or American style.. but a small form of democracy. Even in Africa... representative democracy may work in Rwanda and Botswana but not necessarily DRC.

My theory is that the arrested assassins acted as guides, translators, and force protection for the real assassins who actually made it out. The real assassins probably had an exfiltration plan that was air-tight. These guys were probably led to believe there was a larger plan to extract their team. Because this seems like a highly compartmentalized op where the expendable assets, became the fall guys.

I do not think the Americans wants more instability. I am a Canadian who have worked in Haïti during the 2006 elections and believe me, the US does not want more instability close to home with drug gang ruling the streets of Port-au-Prince. This is my personal opinion: The problems of Haiti starts with their institutions and a few corrupted leaders that does not want these institutions to work since they profit from the chaos. Institutions such as the Senate, the Police, Education, Health...this is the base of any country.

This situation with the assassination of President Jovenel creates more questions than answers. With the aggressive negative climate of the country, he did not have a watchman on his land? Even foreigners hire watchmen on their land in Haiti. Number two, why he did not have a bulletproof vest and arsenals in his house? Number three, why did the first lady not have a bulletproof vest? Why she was never trained to fire and own a gun? Why his car not bulletproof?
