Jimmy "Barbecue" Chérizier has been placed in the international spotlight as an emblem of Haiti's purported "gang problem." But who is Chérizier really? A new documentary series, Another Vision: Inside Haiti's Uprising, offers a different view of Chérizier-not as the leader of a criminal enterprise, but as a political figure leading an armed revolutionary movement. Directors Dan Cohen and Kim Ives join The Chris Hedges Report to discuss their new project.

The planet would be a much more peaceful place if the US would neither mess around with other countries nor have their military all over the place. Your country has so many domestic problems. Why don't you start solving those and leave us all alone? I would really appreciate it.

You're talking to the aristocrats of the US. And they'll never listen. The other 90% of us have absolutely no say in what goes on. Oh you thought we were a democracy? That's the first and most important thing the aristocrats do with their money, they brainwash everyone. First order of brainwash business? Make sure they're never called aristocrats - make sure people always call them the elite, so the plebeians feel like they are a successful version of themselves rather than detested peasants the aristocrats will continue to steal from as long as they can

Well, if the USA controls most counties (plus organizations like the WTO, WHO, SWIFT etc.), then the oligarchs who own the USA (and those countries) can freely exploit all recourses and cash in big, thus increasing their power. And power is what psychopaths live for.

The elites in Haiti KNOW they would all be richer, healthier & more secure if they cleaned up the sewage, provided what ordinary Haitians need (clean water, sound houses, electricity, sewage treatment, food & education & allowed them to prosper, but that’s not what they want! What they want is ABSOLUTE POWER, the ability to say who lives, dies, receives an education & healthcare.

It's a mystery to me why we continue to regard countries like Haiti as "victims of neoliberalism". Equally puzzling is the term neoliberalism itself. Which in every regard is textbook fascism disguised as economics. My mother's family sacrificed two young men in WWII fighting fascism. My father lived a life of episodic PTSD to the day he died in 2012, the result of his efforts fighting fascism. There is nothing "neo" about neoliberalism. It is an extreme form of capitalism the likes of which the world saw in the 1930s resulting in the Great Depression, and it is the kind of capitalism in play during Hitler's rise to power and the advent of the world's greatest atrocities as part of the world's greatest obscenity - WWII. Let's stop apologizing for the international Oligarchs who are claiming digital technology and the "new economy" as their raison d'être. They are fascists without the Nationalist imperative and will continue to destroy the world while being given the friendly name of neoliberals. They must be crushed or we're all doomed.

It’s intentionally presented as unclear & ‘overly complicated’ because 1) clear, in-depth analysis would necessarily implicate actors like the U/S (incl its agencies, NGOs, and some ‘humanitarian aid’ organizations) very quickly; and 2) presenting disjointed, acontextual piecemeal stories every now and then allows the news (state med1a) to continue the air of journalism/care while covering for the U/S to an unknowing audience.

Great video. Haiti is a place where there is a universal language that everyone speaks and a small minority language that only 5-10 % know very well. However, in the case of Haiti, thus minority language is used against the majority to exclude them from power and empowerment. Everyone speaks Creole, only a small minority speaks French yet all the laws are written in French. The education, such as it is , when it exists, is mostly in French. Business is in French. The signage is mostly in French but Creole is the universal tongue. The day when French disappears from government, business, education and the media will be the day when the people will be empowered. French could be maintained for historical reasons but the only language of Haitian society should be the main language in the media , government, business, etc. It is all indicative of the caste system in Haiti. Of course , the language situation is arguably one of the least problems in a country where there is starvation , anarchy, cholera , lack of any opportunities, etc but it definitely is a symptom of what’s wrong with Haitian political class

A great template for Haiti is Rwanda and the amazing job being done by Paul Kagami and his team.
@mikeledorta

@@jayattipoe6597 The one great problem of Rwanda as a template for Haiti is the fact that Kagame has always enjoyed the firm support of the US. In Rwanda , France and the US are/were at loggerheads . Indeed, Kagame even replaced French with English as the language of administration, something that irked France. In Haiti, France and the US are definitely on the same page. The Haitian state has been torn down by the US (now run by NGOs) while the Rwandan state has been strengthened. The Haitians made the horrendous mistake of electing someone the US did not want not once but twice: Aristide. Whatever flaws he might have, he talked about giving some power to the Haitian masses, he even supported strengthening the role of the Creole language . Can’t have that!

@@jayattipoe6597nly problem is that that "amazing" job in Rwanda is built and kept on the back of D.R.Congo's destabilisation and theft of resources, and the violent maintenance of a local decades long dictatorship that kills and exiles critics left and right. Haiti does not border and control Africa's most resource-rich land and does not benefit from yet another dictatorship, let alone one headed by a corrupt war criminal like Kagame.

@@jayattipoe6597 Paul Kagame is a longtime stooge of the west; a shill for imperialism and a participant in the genocide of millions of Congolese. His advance has come at the price of the lives of these fellow Africans who he and Museveni jointly invaded repeatedly. Surely you know this, but for those who are genuinely unaware, google "Friends of the Congo" to start your real education. There are many more truth tellers. If you want truth, you will find them.

There are so many countries that the United States has terrorized and tyrannized with C.I.A. facilitated coups, proxy wars, official wars, and murderous sanctions. Always causing unfathomable suffering and death for civilian populations. But Haiti's history perhaps stands alone as an example of the consequences a nation faces when resisting a continual onslaught of colonialism, neo-colonialism and tyranny by proxy. It's as if for the crime of waging the only successful slave rebellion in history Haiti is cursed by the exploitative powers (mostly the U.S.A. in the past century) of the West. There is an almost Biblical quality to the endless suffering that this nation has endured; even nature has seemingly been wrathful. Though when the climate crisis is related to the latter, it too originates with the exploitative powers.

Clintons, Obamas, Biden, and George Soros are the instigators in Haiti. When the slaves turned independent and went to Africa to establish Liberia, they built it up only to have indigenous Blacks killed them. The Climate hoax. It's a money grab.

Hmmm... that's funny, since the US became the one and only supper power, taking that title after sacrificing 420,000 American lives in WW2 to bring peace, the world has seen a reduction in poverty of 1.2 billion people, drastic reduction in global infant mortality, near eradication of smallpox and other once common diseases, longer life spans across the board in most countries, tens of billions spent on hospitals, schools, AIDS medicines and food to feed the poor in Africa and around the world, deaths due to wars may seem high but in actuality are historically low, environmental deaths have dropped by 90% and the list goes on and on. You see, America has allowed countries like Singapore and many others to develop their economy's rather than their military's because they know big brother is there to take the hit. The collective economies of the world have never seen a period in time more prosperous, with the lowest poverty rates, than what we experience currently. O' Haiti is cursed by ignorance and a peoples that find it difficult to govern themselves. It has nothing to do with the US as the US suffers dealing with their inabilities to rule that nation. It's a money pit. What is there to exploit from Haiti?

@Kuartzites

The socio-economic situation you have described is quite real. However, I was flabbergasted when you started selling BBQ like a revolutionary, and you even dare to compare it to Aristide. Frankly, you're either doing it on purpose or you're really naive. BBQ may be frustrated following his dismissal from the police, but he is not a revolutionary, he was an ally of the Jovenel regime, and he really participated in the La Saline massacre. BBQ claims he is fighting the system when he has never dared to attack the bourgeois. Its only target and its victims are always the people. On several occasions he and his gangs burned down the homes of people who live in Bellair, at no time did he attack any of his corrupt policemen who are in cahoots with the bourgeois. Moreover, the Bellair district where his enemies are located is a reputed district close to former President Aristide, who himself was against the power of Jovenel Moïse that BBQ defended. BBQ's real mission was to unite gangs to prevent popular anti-Jovenel uprisings in neighborhoods that were against the regime, neighborhoods that demanded accountability for the economic crimes of PHTK, from which Jovenel came. This is the truth. If you really helped Haiti, you have to tell all the truth otherwise people will think that you are in cahoots with BBQ. Besides, you should ask yourself where do they find the weapons of war and the ammunition they use? Who are its suppliers? Who are his bosses? Because, those who hold arms in Haiti are poor, they don't work, they can't find the money to buy their overpriced arms.

May God bless Haiti. The people fight for a reason. Corruption and idiocy and selfishness of their government. The government needs to listen to it's people. But I think all our governments need to do the same. America needs to mind its own business. They hate America for a reason. Like we all do. Well the ones who see what they are doing and have done. 👎
