The advanced training program is undoubtedly a factor, but the absolute transparency in athlete selection drives Korean dominance in archery. The Korean Archery Association operates under strict meritocracy. There is absolutely no nepotism in the selection process. You are judged by what you can do, not who you know. The last Olympic champion won't get legacy preference over the selection process either. You must prove your worth with other new archers for the next Olympics. Their operation model is exemplary for other athletic organizations in Korea.

To those who want to talk about Korea's excessive competition and suicide rate, Korea is not number one country in the world in terms of suicide rate. It is number one among OECD countries. Although it varies slightly from year to year, The youth suicide rate is about 6 per 100,000 people, which is lower than Finland and Canada, and is the OECD average. However, the suicide rate among those over 60s in Korea is overwhelmingly higher than other age groups. When you don't know much about something or know a little but want to talk about it, you need to find out a little more and speak carefully.
@reason71235 ай бұрын
The high suicide rate among older people in Korea stems from not wanting to be a burden on their families. They want their children and children's children to have more resources to succeed in life. It is an ultimate sacrifice.

In the end it all comes down to one five letter word. MONEY. Korea ranks among the highest rate of suicide among the ages 10 to 39, with over 50% of those death is from young people in their 20's.the bulk being, (but not all) coming from poor working-class families. I saw this 1st hand in the early 80's when Korea wasn't even a blip on the screen. The pressure to succeed in education was so great for young people that college entrance exams were televised, and nets were place along tall buildings to catch those who made the choice to end their life because they didn't get into the premier Korean College. Take a poll of all those on the Korean archery Team and you will find that all their parents either have or come from MONEY with rarely few coming from a poor working-class families.
