Iran’s Khamenei says ‘wrong’ to downplay Israel’s attack

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei made his first comments about the “malignant” Israeli attack on Iran early Saturday in a meeting with the families of the four members of the armed forces who were killed.
The Israelis try to make the impact of the strikes appear larger than reality, but any move inside Iran to make them appear smaller would also be “wrong”, he said.
“It would be wrong for us to say that it was nothing and it did not matter,” Khamenei said.
“The calculation error of the Zionist regime must be disrupted. They do not know Iran, its youth, its nation. They have not yet been able to fully comprehend the power, capabilities, initiative and will of the Iranian nation, we must make them understand it.”
Khamenei also opened a Hebrew account on X after the Israeli strikes.

It's still incredible that you can't understand that Iran's air defense system only consisted of firing old-fashioned saturating barrages in the hope of intercepting Israeli air-to-ground missiles. It was the fireworks that were seen during the attack. The legendary ingenuity of the Israelis consisted in the first wave of attack on Iranian air defense radars (Russian S300). This is what allowed them to roam as they wanted in Iranian airspace. If they really intended to do more damage, nothing could have stopped them. So please let Iran stop telling us jokes. It is true that Israel can largely bypass Iranian air defenses. It is also true Iran has the capability of swarming the Iron Dome. I have seen several references in The NY Times and Times of Israel regarding “buildings destroyed” (mostly in rural areas) by the Oct.1 barrage. I do not believe Israel had AI to stop them hitting Tel Aviv. That is far less likely than Iran purposefully hitting rural areas. Likewise, Hezzie potshots regularly make it through. Both countries could do massive damage to each other, and global prosperity, it is time for a detente

Here is the difference: Iran lobs missiles indiscriminately at Israel and the few that make it thru defenses strike in such a way that they impact civilians. Israel is able to make surgical strikes on strategic military targets while not touching civilian infrastructure. Damage to civilian infrastructure is what civilians see. Therefore, state run media in Iran is able to lie and tell the world the strikes were insignificant when in fact they were quite significant in terms of impact to Iran's ability to both strike at Israel and defend itself from Israel. Also - Israel's cyber attacks preceding their kinetic attack may have been tightly intertwined with the latter. Meaning it played a part in Iran's inability to use their air defense systems effectively.
