I'm so used to listening to these pieces played by the very finest world class pianists I forget how incredibly hard these pieces really are. A big part of the reason for this is the lack of recording of the actual piano and hands when playing. Thank you for putting so much effort into these videos, it's not trivial at all!

Great job - you surely have the technique needed so congrats on being in the 99th percentile of pianist in the world. I look forward to more.

Awe inspiring. I'd really like to learn this piece myself someday, but I know that there are some variations I wold get totally stuck on, namely 1:52, 3:52, 4:47, and 5:12. I admire you for having the dexterity to play this piece!

That means so much! I know that these are far from great renditions of Alkan but I was really searching for musical meaning during quarantine and this gave me something to distract myself

I don't get why those salty comments; like youtube was some kind of awful place for perfectionists XD (which by the way, I think are just delusional). It obviously has a lot of rough edges, but I still find amusing what you are doing. Keep it up! :D

Let’s do a livestream on my channel. You have chops. You have a sense of rhythm. You have a good ear. A few hours of quality practice will clear up 90% of those tentative passages.

It is always harder to play from memory especially challenging pieces like this one. Why not play from a book instead. You can edit out the page turning bits with YT inbuilt editor. I done this all the time.

I have the opposite thoughts about this. Difficult and long pieces like these are harder to play when you have to look at the music; I’d rather all my attention focused on the sound, my eyes not focused on anything that could distract me from playing. Besides I could just look at my hands to ensure big leaps, it feels much more secure that way.

I could get your performance close to Hamelin’s. It’s all a matter of proper practice. You’d be astounded.

No offence, but you should learn the piece before posting it. You've clearly put a bit of work into this, but clearly: 'finishing off the etudes' doesn't really count when you have as many mistakes as you do here. As someone who doesn't consider themselves as a very good pianist, but can still play this work better than you have here, I'm surprised that somebody would upload this in this state. Let me know when your complete cycle of Sorabji works are coming out.
@jeanlobrot4 жыл бұрын
Always appreciate the feedback, but is the sorabji comment really necessary? Let’s be kind my guy
@LunaLeaves4 жыл бұрын
@@jeanlobrot Fair :D My point still stands, though - people were playing Sorabji poorly well before they were ready too. I'm not saying you're hopeless, I'm just saying that this feels very much like a first run-through (after having learnt it) rather than a final one. If Yui Morishita released a recording in this state, even if it was just a KZbin video, I don't think people would think very highly of him afterwards. I'm currently working through the Alkan etudes myself, but estimate it might take me a few years before I feel comfortable with them. Before that point, I wouldn't dream of putting them out there unless I *specifically* stated that it was a practice recording in some way. BTW, I love Sorabji, Sorabji loved Alkan - after Alkan, your choices of progression are limited. Ligeti, sure, but then Sorabji and the like are the only places left to go.
