I mean Tiana did the same as she was the only princess to own and operate her own business as well as grew up in a low income household as a black woman in New Orleans in the 1920’s. On top of Belle being the (o-nly-)first proven literate Princess, Mulan being the only princess who enlisted in the military and is a war veteran, Jasmine being the first of the princess to VOLUNTARILY RUN AWAY from her privileged status and the first not to marry via political obligation but for genuinely love. Merida is actually a reprint of MANY Disney princess in this line up who’s whole story is about rebelling or changing tradition or putting off marriage. The only unique aspect of Merida is that she is the only Princess in this line up that is not married or engaged. Which sure, is a pretty big milestone, but the rest of her character is standard Disney princess stuff. Edit: Belle is the first literate princess but it has been proven that Rapunzel, Tiana, and Mulan are literate. Rapunzel reads the same books in her tower, Tiana reads cookbooks which she keeps in her home, and Mulan reads a scroll and writes on her arm. However it is unclear if Cinderella, Snow White, Aurora, or Ariel are literate or able to write. Making Belle the first verified literate princess.

Even though some argue that Mulan is not a disney princess, I think she holds the characteristics of what makes a princess such as brave, beautiful, and kind. Although she may not be an actual princess by title, she has the characteristics of one which is probably why she was added to the Disney Princess franchise in the first place. Which is what I like about the franchise, that they don't all have to be princesses they just have to demonstrate the qualities of one.

To answer the Mulan debate... In the movie she is given the highest honor by the emperor for saving the country. That honor is considered even higher then the Princess title so technically no Mulan isn't a princess, she has a higher honorary title which concludes why she was added to the Disney Princess Royal Court.

I don't know if this is just me looking into it too much, but i noticed how all of the 'princesses' who were the sort of 'classic' princesses, rescued by a prince, big poofy dresses were described as beautiful and elegant whereas the more empowered princesses that really saved themselves and weren't overly girly were described as 'ambitious' or 'adventurous' and whilst there's nothing wrong with those things doesn't it kind of show that from an early age we are indoctrinated to believe that you have to be girly and feminine to be beautiful and that you can either be one or the other, representation, especially among little girls is so important, and it's small things like this that influence the world and have an affect on how women are perceived in society.

You probably haven't watched those films.... 1. Ariel saved her prince from shipwreck, and he saved her in the future mutual helping is a good thing. 2. Belle controlled and calmed the Beast, while standing up to herself, sacrificing herself for her father, and being smart and able. 3. Tiana started a restaurant. With her husband. 7. Rapunzel shows her skills and independence throughout the film. 8. Merida shot arrows and used swords for fun while rejecting patriarchy. And the recent princesses: Anna saved her sister and herself by sacrificing her life, Elsa pointed out that you can't marry a man you just met, while internally struggling as a flawed human being and made efforts to protect her sister. You clearly don't watch enough Disney film.

Of all the 11x cast-members playing the princesses in this video, only one of them still works at WDW - Snow White. The cast member that cosplays Belle in this video worked at WDW up until the pandemic shutdown that started on March 20, 2020. As for the other nine cast-members, they seemed to have separated with the Disney company years ago.

Mulan is a princess and she's honored as a princess. And even if she wasnt, she certainly deserves the title 'Princess' because she acted more heroic more than any of the princess other than maybe Pocahontas and Merida (Merida didnt even get a man or more rather chose not to have one). Also, Mulan sacrifice herself to protect her father and to restore her family's honor and at the end, she saves her whole country and then the everyone bowed down to her! Thats what being a princess is about. It's not just being born or married into royalty. Therefore, Mulan is a Princess!

Well, Pocahontas was the daughter of the tribe's chief, even historically speaking, and is considered "an Indian princess" in Disney. So yeah, only Mulan is out, not that I really care. According to the Disney films (not the original poem), she might very well at least participate socially at the chinese imperial court and, thus, attend such a social event as this in the Disney universe. meh details details
