They are not technically formed at birth, but innate techniques are formed at birth and domains itself is the manifestation of the user's innate technique. So, the environment of the domain is very much affected and modelled by the user's innate technique, but the visual imagery isn't, as he said domains are mental landscapes, it could probably mean that Hakari's domain could've looked different if he wasn't a gambler, but the function and the fundamentals of his domain would've remained the same.

Dagon's wasn't projecting an expansion when they were in the apartment. It was an innate domain similar to that of the finger bearer from start of the series in the prison or the one under Yasohachi bridge- those were incomplete projections of the innate domain: you need some sort of ritual to enter the domain and there are conditions attached to this like someone actively needs to cross the river under the bridge or Miyo's invite accepting Wrestling (that was a simple domain but it still had similar binding rule). He didn't need to sustain it as an Expansion that's how it managed to keep it on for so long.

The sure-hit effect doesn't make everything sure hit, but only one unique form of attack or effect, also named sure-hit effect. Non-lethal domain isn't just non-lethal, it also swap the sure-hit effect for rules that the opponents are forced to obey. So, Hakari's domain that has a sure-hit effect that transfer knowledge to his opponents (for revealing one's hand) instead of forcing them to obey, is technically not a non-lethal domain, but an avant-garde lethal domain with a (harmless) complex sure-hit. Coincidentally, Gojo's domain would be a lethal domain with a complex (harmful) sure-hit.

Also, Hanami had a Domain Expansion, but we never got to see what it did, in the Itadori and Todo Vs Hanami fight, Hanami said "Domain expan-", but got interrupted by Gojo's arrival, and since Hanami died, there's no way to figure out what was her domain about, though, most likely something to do with plants

Just wanted to chime in with my two cents about Yorozu’s domain, because I think it is one of the most fascinating in the series despite how little we actually see of it. The handsign represents Jizou, also known as "Earth Womb" in Sanskirt, who is a Bodhisattva that exists in time between the famed Buddha and the supposed next one. His Earth Womb name symbolizes his compassion for all existence, for all things of the Earth. Keep in mind that Earth is typically said to be black, representing fertile Earth - this comes up later in the analysis. In China, Jizou is the same as Enma, lord of the underworld, who releases people from Hell after death. Sukuna's handsign uses Enma, so in a way, Yorozu's domain is essentially inspired by Sukuna, and it can be argued that she probably sees Sukuna as a way to become the sorcerer she wants to be. In other words, she idolizes him, and seeks to be him. There's more evidence for this later in the analysis. The name is Shikku Shikku Shikku, which with Kanji basically means Triplicate Affliction or Threefold Affliction. However, the kanji reference goes further. The Kanji for triple are a reference to the highest range in the three ranges of Buddhist music, and the Kanji for affliction are a Buddhist concept of falling ill from hardship or illness. It is also a reference to the three poisons the Buddha talks about that causes suffering. From this angle, her domain's name draws on ideas of praise, compassion, living a hard life, and degeneracy. The praise comes from the Buddhist songs, exaltations of the Buddha and his exploits. In a way, her domain name is a praise to Sukuna then, who is the "enlightened one" of ancient jujutsu sorcery and the person she seeks to emulate. The handseal and ties to Enma solidify this IMO. Going further, Yorozu's Domain is her "cursed" compassion/love giving birth to what she believes is needed to kill/save those whose souls are lost. Construction Technique is essentially giving birth to substances and objects. However, this is incredibly hard on her body, due to the nature of her inefficient technique. Keep in mind pregnancy/giving birth is also very hard on the body,. The weapons she gives birth too are born from the diseased black wombs floating around in her domain. These black wombs are the Earth itself, calling back to the Earth Womb name inspired by her handsign. These wombs are probably what she imagines creating the items her technique births. The reason she uses a Perfect Sphere, which is basically a round super blade, is because she's trying to use Sukuna's "slashing" against him to kill/save him. The sphere operates by placing infinite pressure on a single point of contact. It is like you are being cut by something that shreds even light and air. Yorozu calls this sphere her love to Sukuna made manifest. As she screamed earlier in the fight, she is obsessed with being cut by him, and the first cut she ever suffered from him is what she remembers when creating the sphere. So, its pretty clear to me that the Perfect Sphere and its infinite sharpness is Yorozu trying to make a sort of murderous idol to Sukuna. All in all, Yorozu's domain is INCREDIBLY subtle but VERY thematically packed. The rest of her domain is white space because nothing else matters to Yorozu - only her twisted idea of love and the items that she can create. All that exists in her soul are wombs that birth death. Its no wonder that Yorozu is obsessed with Sukuna, the King of Curses. Not only does her domain tell us that she loves and idolizes him, but it also tells us that she desires to "be" him herself, or to become her best self by learning from Sukuna's existence. Also, she wants to release him from his loneliness and cursed existence by killing him. I think it is best to imagine Yorozu not as typical person, but as someone who is literally a Cursed Bodhisattva. She is a top-tier sorceress who ONLY cares about acting on her compassions and her base instincts. She has reincarnated in this world to lead the most cursed soul of them all to a death-touched Enlightenment. Her goofy exterior masks a deeply degenerated individual with the motivation, talent, and skills to conquer any non-special grade sorcerer. And in order to reach those heights, she has had to sacrifice the rest of her soul. Imagine Yorozu too like an artist or athlete ala Tom Brady who dedicates/sacrifices everything in the pursuit of their ultimate creation.

I'm more inclined to believe that it's an environmental effect as Gojo can't determine who gets hit and who doesn't unless he touches them to protect them. This can be resisted by other domain expansions, simple domain and maybe Falling Blossom Emotion (RIP Naobito and Ogi). Toji and Maki could also nullify the domain's effects.

Actually there's no such thing as a barrierless domain. They leave their domains open and with that a binding vow is created making the domain bigger and more powerful. If you have more than one curse technique you can use which one you want to imbue your domain with. It's implied in the Gojo vs Sukuna fight. Kenjaku actually casted domain expansion twice in his fight against Yuki using Anti-gravity. The first he used curse technique reversal for his sure hit and the second he used his body as a domain to buff anti gravity against the black hole. Was Geto's curse spirit lady not counted?

Not exactly. To leave a domain ‘open’ means that it is indeed barrierless as barriers are meant to cut off, trap and collect something. We’re still not sure how Kenjaku or Sukuna did it but we know that the trade off for such a feat allows them to create binding vows to both increase output and range for their techniques while also being able to target both people with curse energy and objects/obstacles in the physical world

It's all about a lack of containment or fixation measure. An open barrier as you describe it would be like a sphere with a hole for an opening, but that's nowhere to be seen: there's no barrier. It is obvious that the essence of a domain doesn't truly need a barrier. Megumi used Chimera Shadow Garden without barrier, but instead he had to use a material way of containing the domain. It's imperfect because it doesn't either have range and autonomy from a barrier, nor the capability to imprison the enemy, and it depends from the surroundings of the battle to even be maintained. That's not to say domains do not interact with barriers at all. Barriers can interact with practically anything, domains included, and the very fact that a barrier can be used to contain a domain in the first place proves it. Tengen could interact with Kenjaku's domain in that way, same as Gojo with Sukuna's. Not because they have a barrier, but because they can interact with barriers, especially barriers tuned for domain encounters. Tengen's plan was to dismantle Kenjaku's barrier from the outside, thus disolving it before disolving Yuki's. The barrierless feature forced Tengen to assign the sunyata barrier to Kenjaku's domain and then dismantling it altogether. If Kenjaku's domain had a barrier that wouldn't be viable. Gojo did a very similar thing when facing Sukuna, but not focused on the controlled barrier conditions as much as forcing the parameters of the original.

Domains sure hit are from the Technique being copy onto the barrier. So if one has multiple techniques, one of those can become the sure. Also, one can customize what becomes the sure hit. Gojo makes the natural environment the sure hit (limitless), sukuna makes his slashing ability the sure hit, and yorozu makes her constructs the sure hit. If ones technique can manifest different things based on its ability, any extension of that technique can become the sure hit. Thats probably why ryu punched rika away before opening his barrier. Since she is an extension of yuta technique, she could be the sure hit.
