Princesses are often associated with youthfulness as opposed to queens often being depicted as older (and of course Disney having a lot of evil queen characters). Depends: in the show its just in a nightmare sequence, with the implications being that if Celestia ever gave into darkness or bitterness Daybreaker is what she COULD become. But if you take the comics and tabletop RPG as canon, there does exist a parallel universe where Daybreaker is very real.
