What I find the most interesting in Vengeance Most Fowl is that they acknowledge the passage of time not only with the characters' ages and referencing of past events, but also that *technology* has progressed. Old W&G almost never included home computers (the closest we got was in the outro for World of Invention where they advertise the BBC website) but now we have Wallace owning a computer (and not even one he invented, just an ordinary desktop computer), indicating that we're no longer in the vague 1950s-1970s period but now in the 1980s/1990s

It's hard to take seriously sometimes when part of the joke is that it doesn't add up. W&G haven't physically aged, despite PC Mac doing so, etc. But yeah, I think "vaguely in 80's" is a good estimate!

The reason some people refer to that portrait as Wallace's mother is because it's based on the painting of Whistler's mother (Which was featured prominently in the 1997 Mr. Bean movie)

Yes I remember that now! Makes even more sense that it would be of Wallace's actual mother then, due to the play on words.

You've missed some musical references from A Close Shave. There are a few moments of these: When Gromit kicks over a can of paint, you can hear the motif of after when the porridge machine is switched off. When the pot of glue smashes on the floor of the basement, revealing there's a secret floor, you can hear the moment when Wallace finds out that the porridge box and the cheese has been munched by Shaun. When Feathers and the gnomes return to the basement in their submarine, you can hear the motif of when Preston enters the basement to hide himself from Wallace & Gromit. There's one musical reference I can find from A Matter of Loaf and Death when Gromit was hanging on to dear life on that rope near the canal boat, you can hear the motif of when Gromit and Fluffles escapes Piella's house using the Bake-O-Lite balloon.

Close Shave mustn't be ingrained into me enough to pick these up, as I automatically recognised the others from Wrong Trousers! Just recall thinking it's a shame they didn't use the motorbike and sidecar music when it was unveiled. Good spots though, I'll have a look myself when I get the chance.

the fact that feathers doesnt instantly know the moon is made out of cheese likely suggest that he never got that news. meaning that he was probably already imprisoned during A Grand Day Out, which creates all sorts of continueity questions.
@alexpotts6520
@alexpotts6520 Күн бұрын
I'm not sure the moon being made out of cheese is canon. Wallace thinks it is, but he's not all there. In fact, when he eats the moonrock, he disappointedly notes that "it's like no cheese I've ever tasted". I always interpreted this as being confirmation that the moon really is made out of rock and Wallace is just loopy.

It’s implied he was incarcerated normally before The Wrong Trousers, so he probably missed/didn’t care about the moon cheese reveal. Him listening to the song “Tie a yellow ribbon to the ole oak tree” is meant to suggest he’s recently departed from prison.

Several cool details I didn't notice until now! Additionally... -Ant & Dec did in fact give their blessing to the cameo, as Muzz Khan mentioned on Twitter. Apparently they have to jump through all legal hoops with references nowadays. -The machine that picks Gromit up from bed looks kinda similar to how the Techno Trousers are designed? -Tank-Top Man was previously seen as one of the places they deliver bread to in A Matter of Loaf and Death. -Gromit's book seems to have a Penguin/Feathers logo on it like in A Close Shave? -The dog on the vinyl in Gromit's room might look like it's a character from Creature Comforts? -The Dalek reference could also be a nod to series writer Bob Baker also being involved in Doctor Who. -Snoozy Choc was also in a deleted Were-Rabbit scene where I think Gromit gives Wallace a bigger amount in hopes of putting him to sleep, like what happens in this film. -Guardians of the Galaxy is a Marvel *COMIC* series, for the record. -Apparently people say the woman walking a dog at the start of the boat climax is Mrs. Mulch? -Gromit's ears also shake in that zoom of the ending like in Wrong Trousers. -They also kinda abandoned Shaun after A Close Shave like Fluffles and presumably Norbot, sans the Cracking Contraptions cameo. -A cheese knife also appears in the first morning scene of Were-Rabbit and the Stinking Archbishop ending of a World of Invention episode. -The kettle appears to have had the Blue Diamond in it despite it appearing in post-Wrong Trousers films in working use. -The Yorkshire border is also made reference to in a deleted ending for Were-Rabbit and A Matter of Loaf and Death. -Blackpool is also made reference to within the films in Wallace's suitcase seen in A Grand Day Out and a photo seen in Cracking Contraptions "The Tellyscope".

My favourite Easter Egg in the film was the reference to the 'Banana Warehouse', which is the name of Aardman's former headquarters. Prior to being taken over by Aardman during production of 'The Wrong Trousers', it was a warehouse used to ripen bananas (hence the name).
@rare_fare95
@rare_fare95 14 минут бұрын
Some other things I noticed from this film were: 1) The photograph motif (in particular Wallace and Gromit still framing photos regardless of how good they are) is something which extends back to ''A Grand Day Out'. 2)Gromit getting splattered with something (paint, jam, soap suds, scrambled egg, marrow, bread dough) is something which happens regularly 3) Norbot's hedge cutting is a reference to 'Edward Scissorhands' 4) The lamp in Inspector Mackintosh's office might be a reference to Pixar's Luxo lamp 5) The Norbot's flame thrower lighter looks like it has been reappropriated from the Turbo Diner short 6) The TV foreshadowing the events of the film through sinister black and white films appears also in "The Tellyscope" 7) The lion being named Gavin is a possible reference to the Aardman animator, Gavin Strange 8) The name of Norbot in bad Latin is a throwback to "Curse of the Were Rabbit", when similar fictional Latin monster names appear in Reverend Hedges's book (The Loch Ness Monster is a "Touristus Trapus") 9) The Yorkshire/Lancashire border joke first appeared in canon in 'A Matter of Loaf and Death'. In one of the storyboarded endings of 'Curse of the Were Rabbit' though, Wallace and Gromit were going to release the rabbits (including Hutch) over the Yorkshire border at the end of the film instead of donating them to Lady Tottington.

Feathers "counting down the days" he is in prison is something which is done also by Gromit in 'A Close Shave' and by Ginger in 'Chicken Run'. In 'A Close Shave', "Feathers was 'ere" is written on the walls along with loads of tally charts, which implies Feathers may have started the tally chart tradition the last time he was in prison.

I spotted some of the references when I watched the film, but I didn’t realise there were so many others. They really put a lot of effort into this. I liked the Were-Rabbit villagers appearing (Anton Deck looks really similar to one of the nameless extras from the film) and many of the little callbacks. Some of the score motifs were largely good, and one motif from Loaf & Death can be heard when PC Mac gets hit by the door. Seeing Snoozy Choc in physical form was also a treat.

'Up North News' is very similar to real world Yorkshire TV show 'Look North'. The 'Off The Beat' magazine is priced in shillings and pence, suggesting W&G is set pre decimalisation, so pre 1971. Diane Morgan's character 'Onya Doorstep' looks just like Diane Morgan. More Batman Returns references are, Feathers being in a Zoo, just like the Penguin in BR, the villain being a penguin, and the Batman Penguin is famous for using gadget umbrellas to escape. The water skiing might be an Apocalypse Now reference. Gromit's fall brings to mind Alan Rickman in Die Hard.

32:45 The audio book adaption of the original three short films (Which is narrated by Peter Sallis in character as Wallace) does say the framed image in the guest room is of his grandmother. But the canonicity is dubious of course as I think it also gives the diamond a different name. But all the same, really shows the love and care how nearly every scene has a wink and nod to earlier installments. Very impressive how many you found.

Also, on your comment about the mulch's not appearing technically they did Variety recently got to publish the actual script for this movie, and within it it actually names all the neighbors from the film. So, the lady who calls Wallace a "toad bag" during the mob scene is named "Mrs. Mulch" within it. And if that isn’t her, there is a lady who vaguely resembles Mrs. Mulch during the boat chase later on. I’d definitely recommend checking the script out, it was a really fun read

One way to date the time gap would be by Wallace’s helmets. Generally you should replace them after five years, by reckoning he has four different helmets starting with ‘…trousers’ which gives us a maximum of 20 years. If the one in WT is brand new and the one in VMF is at the end of its life. However it could be we’ve missed a helmet in between, do the TV shows etc… have extra ones? Also no guarantee that the one in WT is Wallace’s, Feathers could have stolen it to modify.

10:50 is still my favorite moment in this series. The get up and go sequence from curse of the were rabbit is just perfect. 🤌

I might have to agree, the music and everything in that sequence is so cinematic and yet completely Wallace & Gromit. Don't think it'll ever be topped!

@SomeBoiOnline absolutely... Just recently received the van with Wallace and Gromit from Corgi. After 15 years since first seeing the movie, I finally own the anti pesto van. Great videos, I'm always happy to see you upload.

Very great video, definitely a lot i missed. It is somewhat odd thag there doesn't appear to be a reference to Bob Baker given he co-wrote almost all the previous Wallace and Gromit films and shorts. I do want to mention that there is also a British version of Law and Order, just found it odd you knly referenced the American one. It is interesting that there's only a vague reference to A Matter of Loaf and Death, but i dont mind given i kind of like to view it as the end of the timeline, almost certainly due to it being the final for so long and thats just been cemented in my head nearly my whole life

Though I'm American I love Wallace & Gromit more so because one of my many all-time favorite British shows is Last of the Summer Wine compo and clegg are the best. Peter Sallis is great, but Gromit I like more than Wallace also cool video by the way. Though I have seen just about all of Wallace and Gromit shorts and movies I never notice too much the hidden eggs you mentioned here.

I wonder if the map shown of West Wallaby Street matches with the one seen in Cracking Contraptions (the one where they send a robot to get cheese from the shop)

there was a also a monty python reference when Rufus kicks the gnome off with the bagpipes i belevie that is a reference to the kamikaze highlanders skit when they are all busy leaping off the castle.

I suppose he does have a different title (Chief Inspector) and older design in this one, so I can see how that could happen!

It's confusing, but Nick has stated that with the exception of this cameo, W&G and the Shaun series take place in different "worlds"

The painting is most defiantly Wallaces mother since it's a parody of the painting Whistler's Mother and therefore that painting would have to be Wallace's Mother.

I'm slightly concerned that I noticed 80 references when I first watched it 🤣 how many times did you have to watch this film just to find all of this anyway?
@SomeBoiOnline
@SomeBoiOnline Сағат бұрын
I would never have noticed so many by just watching the film casually, it was more of a frame by frame study. 80 on your first watch is remarkable 😂

Rather than easter eggs, aren't most of these just good continuity?
@SomeBoiOnline
@SomeBoiOnline Сағат бұрын
Continuity is something that W&G doesn't usually have, the sets and characters switch around with every film if you look closely. So anything from the previous entries has been put there with intention.
