Congrats mate! You really had a great talk from Nick Park and Merlin Crossingham, two terrifc stop motion creators. What i understand, is how Nick and Merlin can embrace having the human touch by using technology for good intentions rather than the more verified and automatic way. Using robotic gnomes for an ideal concept, really turned a blind eye for Wallace being framed, when it was an old jailbird foe's own doing to escape and retrieve the diamond.

The fact you were able to secure an interview with both Nick and Merlin is insane! I can imagine how awestruck you must’ve been in the call with them. I love how genuine, sweet and professional both of them were during the interview as well, it was so wholesome seeing them talk so passionately with you about their craft. Something I didn’t think you would bring up is the old Gromit voice clip from Peter Hawkins, and if it is true that those clips may have been lost to time then it’s such a loss! But at the same time, Gromit being a mute character works better. Anyways, lovely videos as per usual, you’re one of my favourite content creators and I love your work so much! Have a wonderful new year :)

Excellent interview. It's cool Aardman is checking out your channel. I especially liked @27:52 where you noticed the Shuan The Sheep cameo. I did too when I saw the film at the LA premiere but nobody in the audience seemed to notice it. I was glad to know now that both creations are in the same universe. Can't wait to see your behind the scenes tour of Aardman in 2025. Let me know if they are setting up plasticine models already for their Pokemon content.

That's awesome. I saw other KZbinrs interviewing them and I was disappointed that it wasn't you. Glad you got a chance to interview them too. I loved hearing them talk about how someone can mimic the voice for a small bit but it's totally different having an actor play the part. I think this is my issue with a lot of the people who whine about Matt Vogel replacing Steve Whitmire as Kermit. They claim that random people on TikTok would be better but they're just doing an impression. They're not actors. They're not puppeteers. So you can't just listen to a bunch of 10 second clips and claim they'd be a better Kermit

Me neither, but from a completely different and unique angle. This interview makes me very sad for a very grave reason that everybody should know about, but nobody does and I´m still far too scared to tell. I haven´t said a word for 11 years, but this does it, I can´t keep silent anymore. First, I had no idea who Wallace and Gromit are when I was a child, I´m not British. But I got to meet Merlin "by chance", on Peter Sallis´s birthday party. Yes, that´s right (and Nick was on holiday at the time, so Merlin was his stand-in, so to speak), and Merlin was a very kind and funny person. First I was just a Peter fan like any other person, I am absolutely nothing to do with film industry. I visited England once to visit a theatre to hear him talk about his autobiography. The owner of the theatre found it so amazing that someone from abroad was there for that occasion that he told Peter about it who then wanted to meet me afterwards (imagine my shock!). That sparked a very close friendship almost immediately. He asked me to write to him and let him know when I was coming again. I hadn´t even planned to come again because I had little money. But of course I could not let this slide and we discovered we were completely on the same wavelength. A few years later something horrible happened that I can´t talk about, someone ruined his life completely, his worst nightmare came true. Even court was involved. Peter was isolated from everyone that this person didn´t approve of, which meant he was actually isolated from his friends. By isolated I mean completely isolated, as in banned, no contact. I can´t go into the matter because I´m far too afraid and traumatised. But you won´t read about it anywhere. I´m sitting here with a pounding heart and feeling sick, even many years later, and I don´t even know yet if I can work up the courage to post this. I´m so scared, I´m panicked I might draw any attention towards myself, but I just couldn´t bear it anymore either.💔🖤

This was such an enjoyable episode! So cool that you got to speak with Nick Parks! I used to do stop motion as a kid, and he was a big inspiration to me! Also, one thing to consider with the conversation about A.I. and art - every little thing that goes into every frame with a Wallace and Gromit animation is a specific stylistic choice, and can express feeling and nuance in a way that A.I. is unable to (at least currently). Wallace and Gromit feel so alive and different from A.I. art because the human hand has touched everything in every frame. Wallace and Gromit are not just some approximation based on training data.

That section about AI was spot on, everything Merlin said was absolutely true. There are plenty of other ways to animate but there's a reason as to why Aardman stick to stop motion due to the creative process and the animators enjoying their craft. Other forms of animation exist such as CGI, mocap, traditional, digital drawings, but AI will only ever be able to replace the final product, and not the enjoyment and satisfaction we get out of creating something ourselves. Completely true that AI is a tool and it's great that Nick and Merlin recognise its inherent use in many products already. Nick and everyone else within the stop motion animation industry have my utmost respect

Oh mate, this is amazing! I'm made up for you, truly! Fantastic interview, really enjoyed it. Don't know how you got through it so calmly. It's akin to me interviewing Peter Cullen and Frank Welker, I'd be all over the shop! Well done! On the use of modern technology and stop-motion, I heard or read (I can't remember, I can remember Captain Pugwash... Just! And Master Bates. No, I'm not kidding.) an interview with the great Ray Harryhausen's daughter. She was asked if her dad were alive today (sometime in the 2000's I think) would he have used CGI in his films or would he have carried on using stop-motion? The lady replied saying that her dad would have used whatever would have made his films better, which I think is pretty on brand for Ray. He was always striving to make his films the greatest so why wouldn't he use all the tools at his disposal? I'm in no way saying stop-motion should be relegated to the dustbin of history, I love it and have an idea for a short I'd like to make myself, but if you can augment it with technology, why not? There are parts of my idea that I just wouldn't be able to physically do without a bit of non stop-motion animation, so the choice would be a green-screen or some low-level CGI and I'll be OK with that so long as the shot comes out the way I hope! Augmenting, not replacing. Right, I'm off to spend hours wondering if I made my Mum buy PG Tips for the umpteenth time so I could have the toy/mug/whatever because I can't stand tea and I swear she's tea-powered the amount she gets through! My Captain Pugwash-addled brain can't remember if I have one of those mugs! Cheers m'dear!

I can tell this must have seemed overwhelming, but you gave excellent questions and maintained your composure while it was clear how much care and affection you had for the films. NEVER THOUGHT I'D SEE THIS VIDEO FROM YOU BUT THIS IS INCREDIBLE!!!! 🤩🤩🤩🤩 Also, 1:31, SOME BOI ONLINE NAME REVEAL!??! 🤯🤣 5:18 THIS MOMENT HAS TO BE THE HIGHLIGHT OF THIS INTERVIEW!! 😂😂 Merlin just explaining about VMF whilst you and Nick are communicating through Gromit mugs 😂😂😂 Brilliant!!! 17:52, I like to think that Wendolene now looks after Fluffles, since Fluffles lost her owner, and Wendolene technically lost her dog. Ik he was "reprogrammed", but y'know lol

Thank you, I think my name has been said a few times across the channel, but not very often! The Gromit Mug moment was amazing 🤣 silent comedy much like Shaun the Sheep, no words needed haha! Love the Wendolene and Fluffles theory, it'd be so poetic if both W&G's love interests ended up in each other's company.

4 years old in 2005. That means you're only 23 now. You make me feel old. It must've been a privilege to interview Nick and Merlin at only 23.

I still feel old 😂 and it was indeed, though Nick was also in his twenties when he created W&G!

I know you've mentioned it before, but saying that Were-Rabbit was your introduction to Wallace & Gromit at 4 still makes me feel old. I was a not dissimilar age when introduced to W&G with 'The Wrong Trousers' (still my favourite) - though the only merchandise I've ever owned is a figure of the titular trousers, I believe from cereal, which I still have somewhere.

The creator of Wallace and Gromit knows who you are. You must be getting an Aardman model of yourself now.
