today was actually all state round 1 in kentucky! sending good vibes to all the texas students out there! (can someone please explain tmea all state to me because we just have two audition rounds and it has nothing to do with our region select band)

So basically high schoolers tryout for the all-state process: starting with region, depending on your school size/conference(like mine is 6a, 6a- any school with 2250 students or more), you go against students from schools in the same region(with the same or similar conference), . Since my school is in 6a and all 6a/5a regions, my region(like all) is split up into two phases. Based on how many people auditioned on a certain instrument, TMEA contest office or judges(i dont really know) choose how many advance to phase 2. Like in my case they had 20-something baris tryout in phase 1, and only 8 moved onto phase 2. For region tho, TMEA combines 6a and 5a(schools that have a student population of 1230-2219), like in my case, they rank 6a and 5a together, all from first to last, who then a top few go into phase 2. Like in my case the baris were so good, it was split 4 for 6a and 4 for 5a lol, I made phase 2 don't worry. In phase 2, they then split off 6a and 5a(even though there is not much of a difference in terms of quality and school size), depending on the instrument, on this one TMEA already set how many people advance to area. Like in my case they only took 2 baris from 6a and 2 baris from 5a. From this point out, 5a and 6a aren't ranked together. They just have the same process and separate bands. In the area, they combined all the regions that are supposed to be in that area. Then the judges again rank each player from first to last. Then its onto state, the top few from area go on to state, except your area audition is also your state audition, they just record your audition. Since you know cost of travel etc. A panel of judges in the state chooses the best auditions and places them into an all-state band. In the baris case, they took 8 baris from across the different areas and put them into a band. Even though there's eight areas, the judges panel don't choose the first chair from each area. In fact in my area, three baris made the 6a state bands. For 6a there were two bands and for 5a there were two bands also. In both 6a and 5a, they put 4 baris into each band. So 8 for 6a and 8 for 5a in total. This is all in December and January, Region being in early December, then you have a month till your area audition/state audition. Skip to February then the state bands perform in the TMEA convention in San Antonio, were basically all the music educators in the state plus guests, trade secrets and learn more about music. Basically all my band directors, current and previous go to that. Our band loves the day when all the band directors are gone.

nice, do the Bb and A come out more like the rest of the horn on the 82 On my Vi and serie II the A is a beast to control. It wants to roar out and I have to work very hard to tame it.
