Oh my God, Im Still Here. Both Fernandas are legendaries at Brazil.Fernanda Torres win best actress in Cannes back 1986. But in Brasil she s most know for her comic performances . And Walter Salles became the richest filmmaker in the World, as heir to a bilionar bank. So there will be no shortage of money for the campaign. sorry for the english. i understand more than i write

Great video!! My top 3 from tiff are The Brutalist, Emilia Perez and Flow. Also really loved Bird, Hard Truths and The Substance. I was very lukewarm on Queer when I initially saw it as well, but it has really increased in my ranking since tiff pondering on the imagery and themes, and you have to admit that Lesley Manville's performance is something!

But I agree most the times. I'm also surprised to see so many Brazilians following you. Sooooooo... So most years there aren't 'a lot of flawed films' at film festivals? Are there 'perfect films'? Not sure there are perfect anything, really, as it's so arbitrary. That just seems like a lazy comment to make.

Sounds like you learned a very important TIFF lesson this year: the English-language premieres are hit and miss, but more often miss. Unless it has major Oscar buzz, I skip it in favor of non-English films. The bar for them to get into the fest is simply higher.

Hi Brian. This was so interesting to watch. It will take forever for some of these to come to Denmark, and many may never make it, but now I know some of the films to watch out for. 🙂

Regarding The Return, I read about the premise of the film when buying tickets and learned that the film is only adapting the last part of the Odyssey (which I have to admit I haven't read yet). Immediately, I had a feeling that it was not going to be a straightforward adaptation. So for its world premiere screening, I went into with the mindset that it was going to be a character study rather than a historical epic/literary adaptation, and I think that probably helped me enjoy the film a lot more than you did. Having Pasolini doing the Q&A with the great Juliette Binoche as well as Charlie Plummer also contributed to the experience (Binoche was hilarious, BTW!). They basically confirmed my approach in that they wanted to put the focus on how the relationship and dynamics between the characters were affected by war and power struggles, and stripped back the mythology aspects and also went with a lowkey set design compared to your usual historical epics. I'm sure that some people in my audience probably thought it was a bore (the couple next to me left without watching the Q&A), but I'd say most in the audience were pretty gripped by the story, and even clapped and cheered at Odysseus's triumphs. The film did get a standing ovation. I ended up putting it 9th out of the 21 films I watched at TIFF (ahead of the likes of Saturday Night and Hard Truths, which I liked but not loved), and voted for it for People's Choice.

"Anora" must be something. I've only heard great things about it. Despite the fact the trailer looks as if it was shot on an iPhone - not to mention the font choice which instantly smells of pretense. But I always say trailers are meaningless, so I'll give it a watch anyway!
@kevinlakeman5043Ай бұрын
Ya now what's all but 'meaningless'? The word 'pretentious'. In my experience, nearly everyone who uses it does so incorrectly, as in not getting the meaning. Or just cuz they don't get a movie, novel, album, etc., so they just say it's pretentious; which is dumb and unfair to the work. It's the maker who may or may not be pretentious. The work itself doesn't have a mind, so it can't a claim to be s/thing of more importance or significance than you may arbitrarily decide it isn't.
@GA-1stАй бұрын
@@kevinlakeman5043 It's odd that a "meaningless" word such as "pretentious" has a dictionary definition that's been correctly applied here. Perhaps you should consider reading one? Then again, it's evident that you have reading comprehension difficulties in general, inasmuch as I never criticized the "work" itself. That'd be hard to do since I haven't seen it yet. Despite your being a smug little jack ass, however, I'll concede that not everyone may see anything pretentious regarding the use of that font style. It's a subjective, personal observation, as valid as any other when it comes to interpreting art. That's why the suggestion that someone doesn't "get a movie" just because one's reaction or opinion differs from yours is also meaningless, It presupposes there's an objective, absolute truth to art, which indicates you obviously have no idea what you're talking about when it comes to that form of expression.

Sing Sing is the BEST MOVIE of the year and deserves nominations in most categories. The movie was shot on 16 mm film, in 19 days, with a very small crew. The DP, Pat Scola should be nominated for an Oscar for cinematography because the visual look, the lighting, the film choice, all created the naturalistic atmosphere to tell the story. Accompanied with Bryce Dessner's score that sells the beautiful scenes and intimate facial expressions. And kudos to the director, Greg Kwedar, who allowed dialogue to be ad-libbed at times, which created the emotional essence throughout the film that tugs at your heart. The cast deserves best ensemble because 90% of the cast are the formerly incarcerated men that participated in the RTA theater program while in Sing Sing and that authenticity shines. And what can you say about Coleman Domingo.... he deserves the Oscar this year, his performance is perfectly understated, and he allows the other men to shine because this is their story. Well Done!! Also, Clarence Maclin and Paul Raci both deserve best supporting nominations. Their performances tie the strings that pull the film to its brilliance. Best movie overall in a very long time and well worth the emotional journey.
