How is Schindlers List only at 4? Its the greatest film ever made. Jaws, Raiders and Jurassic Park in my opinion should follow it. As for saving private Ryan I would have that near the bottom of the list. It's very immature the way its directed by blatantly showing Americans as far superior soldiers whilst almost all the Germans just instantly drop dead from any kind of injury. Only American Soliders can show pain and emotion so the audiences sympathy is only given to them not the German soldiers who again just drop dead instantly. People need to remember their was many German soliders in the war who didn't want to be there, neither did they agree with the nazi beliefs. Oh yeah and American soliders can somehow pull off impossible shots such as sniping another sniper directly through his scope.

A.Is ending is actually super interesting in my opinion. For one, it allows David to finally see his mom one last time , something he was trying to do the entire second half of the movie. But what I love most is the idea of Davids experiences with his mom being all in his head, yet satisfying him completely. It’s a weird feeling of being strange yet wholesome of the fact he doesn’t care at all that none of this is real, all that matters is seeing his mom again.

I think the low rank on some films like Tintin is less a reflection of Tintin being weak, and more a reflection of Spielberg having an incredibly deep filmography. I've seen about 2/3 of the list, and I really like pretty much all of the ones I've seen.

I agree, Tintin is underrated. It didn't have the uncanny valley effect for me. I love how 2011 was similar to 1993 for Spielberg in that he released both a heavy drama Best Picture contender and a fun genre film in the same year. I mean, Jurassic Park > Tintin and Schindler's List >>> War Horse, but still it's a fun parallel. Munich and War of the Worlds in 2005, too.
@andreraymond6860 Жыл бұрын
It is very much an American ranking. TinTin is a European preoperty. Hergé is not very well known in English North America. I live in Québec and TinTin here is a cultural Icon, along with Spirou, Lucky Luke, etc. So we share a positive bias towards the movie. I agree it should be in the top 20.

These are my updated thoughts on all of these films. Also, Steven Spielberg is my favorite filmmaker of all time, so just keep that in mind as well. 34. 1941-A massive misfire that doesn’t make sense in Spielberg’s filmography 33. A.I. Artificial Intelligence-A movie that feels lifeless to me 32. The BFG-It’s okay, but it’s not much more than that 31. The Lost World: Jurassic Park-A movie that has great sequences, but a lackluster story that can’t pull those sequences together in a satisfying way 30. Always-A decent at best romance movie 29. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull-I know a lot of people hate this movie, and they’re not wrong, but I have some fun with it when I remove the Indiana Jones name from it 28. The Terminal-An enjoyable enough, but very forgettable addition to Spielberg’s filmography 27. Ready Player One-While it’s fun to see a bunch pop culture easter eggs and references, there isn’t a whole lot beyond that 26. Hook-A fun concept that isn’t executed as well as it could’ve been 25. The Post-It’s not the most interesting material, but it’s effective for what it’s going for 24. The Sugarland Express-It’s not as refined as Spielberg’s later films, but it shows the talent that Spielberg had very early in his career 23. The Adventures of Tintin-An enjoyable piece of family entertainment 22. War Horse-A nice, heartfelt story between a boy and his horse 21. Empire of the Sun-A story that has a very interesting point of view, even if it’s a bit too long 20. The Color Purple-A very well done, well acted adaptation of Alice Walker’s novel 19. War of the Worlds-A solid sci-fi movie that shows a darker side of the genre 18. Duel-A very simple premise, executed rather well 17. Amistad-I don’t think it’s fantastic, but it has several great performances and a lot to say about the differences between culture 16. Bridge of Spies-A very good Cold War film with an interesting point of view character played excellently by Tom Hanks 15. West Side Story-While I’ve never really been into musicals, this is one that’s incredibly well done 14. Close Encounters of the Third Kind-The characters aren’t the best, but this movie still has a bunch of great sci-fi ideas executed very well 13. Munich-A great, thrilling drama that shows an interesting fallout of a political conflict 12. Minority Report-You know Spielberg’s an amazing director when this movie is at #12 11. Lincoln-A movie that absolutely does justice to someone as celebrated as Abraham Lincoln 10. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom-A fantastic sequel that takes a very dark direction that I personally really enjoy 9. The Fabelmans-A film that clearly meant a lot to Spielberg, which made for a movie that shows the power of cinema and what makes it so wonderful 8. Schindler’s List-While this is absolutely one of the greatest movies of all time, it’s a movie that I never want to watch again 7. E.T. the Extra Terrestrial-Despite being over 40 years old, this movie absolutely holds up and stands the test of time 6. Saving Private Ryan-A fantastic film that really shows the brutal reality of war, making for a very important film that everyone should watch at least once 5. Catch Me If You Can-Easily the most underrated film in Spielberg’s filmography 4. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade-The 2nd best adventure film of all time 3. Jaws-A perfect thriller, a perfect creature feature, and an overall perfect movie 2. Raiders of the Ark-The greatest adventure film ever made 1. Jurassic Park-A phenomenal movie that has fantastic characters, amazing thrills, digital effects that age beautifully, a great sense of wonder, a compelling story, and a great sci-fi concept to pull it all together

For me, JURASSIC PARK will always be my #1 favorite movie of all time. Whenever I get bored, or if there's nothing good to watch on TV I would pop in a DVD copy of the movie. It would often see the film on HBO and Sci Fi.

Spielberg has bursts of brilliance followed by films that are entertaining yet forgettable. For example, Jaws and Close Encounters followed by 1941. Raiders of the Lost Ark and ET followed by Temple of Doom (middling sequel that he's not a fan of). Last Crusade was his only great film in the second half of the 80's. Jurassic Park and Schindler's List is arguably his best year, imo. Those two really defined their respective genres. He followed those incredible films with Lost World. Another middling sequel to a giant franchise. I think Minority Report and Catch Me If You Can was his last back to back great film streak. Since then, I'd say Munich and Bridge of Spies were his best efforts.

Steven Spielberg is the G.O.A.T. of directing. I think that the reason why some people hate him is because he's too successful. He's the only director that's in the $10 billion dollar club based on his filmography. He's the Tom Brady of Hollywood. At first, people loved Brady because he was the underdog. But as Brady kept on winning Super Bowls, the love turned to hate. It's the same for Spielberg. The more hit films that he kept on making, the love quickly turned to hatred. And he's still going strong in his mid 70s.

Not many actual cinephiles hate Spielberg. In fact, I'd think you'd find that a lot credit him with getting them into cinema in the first place.
