The only bonsai specific tools that a beginner might need are concave cutters and maybe the blunt nose wire cutters. For everything else, you can easily substitute

Bjorn, when will the BEFF tool sets be available again...and exactly what are they called? I have a similar but cheap old tool I need to replace, but couldn't find anything when I searched recently. Thanks. P.S. Your arms look like you've been moving a lot of big trees around!

Thanks for the video. Do you recommend Kukuwa due to your experience or due to the relatively affordable price point? I am thinking about getting a set of Japanese tools but don't know where does Kikuwa rank in all the Japanese brands.

Been contemplating a pair of hybrid concave/knob cutters for a while, have you any experience of or anything to say about those Bjorn?
@WR3ND
@WR3ND 3 жыл бұрын
Obviously I'm not Bjorn, but I prefer having a straight edge cut without biting in too much sometimes, so I opt for having both specialized branch and knob cutters over a 2-in-1, but it is a nice option and you can get more tools later. So, really up to you and how you think you'll use it most. Cheers.

Bjorn why don't Bonsai tools have rubber grips over the metal similar to rose shears?? Business opportunity for someone to make them.

PUBLI C SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: THE TOOLS BJORN SHOWS ARE OF GOOD QUALITY... YOU CAN FIND TOOL KITS OF LESSER QUALITY THAT HAVE THE TOOLS HE SHOWS AND MORE FOR LESS THAN $100. They are not nearly as well made, and will quickly rust if left out or uncared for, BUT they are great kits for beginners to learn to use the tools and teach you to care for the tools. That way you can justify expensive tools after a couple years and not be made if you burnt out on bonsai and have hundreds of dollars worth of unused tools. Bjorn I may get some tools from you next year if i am still with this. And i will buy them in person when i visit the Nursery. It's about a 6 hour drive and close to areas that i want to hike
@danielkosta3134
@danielkosta3134 4 жыл бұрын
You are very right. Start out with cheaper tools and see if you like bonsai. If you do then gradually get better tools.

Norman, go start your own channel, upload a bunch of useful, free content then watch as the internet rats try to pick at you over $20 profit here and there as you continue to produce high quality, free content. I can only imagine another of your pass times is hanging in the toys section at a store during Christmas, telling all the kids Santa isn't real. I hope a stray cat pushes over one of your bonsai pots to atone for your trashiness this day.

@@questionablecooking7019I'm tooo busy being chill. maybe you should try it sometime. My suggestion on cheaper tools is best in the long run for hobbyists, Bjorn's business, and bonsai in general. Money maker for him isn't the tools. It's the lessons and trees. Someone buys $300 in tools from him and feels subverted to bonsai or resentful to his business because their first couple trees died but they spent 5x more on tools for it. They will put the hobby down more quickly and thus Statisically Bjorn will sell less lessons, tours, and trees. It's a matter of good business practice when developing repeat business, which I assume is his goal. Yea tell every newcomer to buy super expensive tools and watch as you have a poor reputation and few customers after 5 years. Maybe you outta spend less time criticizing helpful suggestions and more time with your trees. Bjorn certainly knows that is where the money is for the business, not tools you child.

@@normanladdleschnitzel1928 I read about 1 page into your novel here and realized I'm conversing with a moron. It all then made sense you'd go on some hard working guy's page to under cut his sales. Dooouche.
