It would be nice to have some captions as to what exactly you’re doing and using. And why you do the cuts you do?

I like the nebari with the roots crossed. Why is that technically frowned against?

Is more interesting to see a house being built by Japanese. They build houses more traditionally, in fact if there was a job in Japan dedicated to watch a house being built by hand or traditionally I’d be there.

In early 2021, our house was partially destroyed in a storm. We were able to find a very small apartment for our family, which included a newborn. We were stressed, tired, heartbroken, but hopeful. Late at night I would bottle feed the baby and try to get it to sleep while my wife slept. After a couple of nights staring at the wall in a tired haze, I put on youtube and tried to find something relaxing and visual, so that I didn't have to turn the volume up. And I ran into this channel and the styling videos. I've been watching ever since. It's so amazing to see how much has changed for you (and me) in that time. I'm looking forward to the final house build, but I'm also really looking forward to your garden. I can't wait to see it. I only wish I had been able to make it to Tennessee before you moved on. I hope things continue to go well for you!

An interesting and respectful tradition. You have done well by repositioning your life and values to a culture that you feel at one with that allows you to experience greater zen style moments with your family. A thoughtful and bold move. Cheers Craig

Great video. It brings back so many memories. Resident in Hong Kong in the late 70's, an Univ. of HK professor had a collection of Japanese stone lanterns. They ended up in various antique shops after his death. I got a nice Oribe style lantern from the collection. It sat in the corner of our bedroom for a few years. I had spotted one of those foundation stones in a Korean market but could not figure out how to get back to HK. Next trip to Japan I had convinced my wife that we need the water basin. Her family must have thought me crazy and instead of the two of us going to the stone garden shop it turned into a family affair giving advice and consent. The pair have resided in our US home arranged in tea garden style for the last 36 years. Thank you for great tour of the shop and the blessing of the home site.

I think the old foundation stone as basin was a good choice over the more "unhewn" slabs. Not just because of its obvious age; but it will sit in a relatively confined space, next to a house sitting between other houses, not in a landscapy temple garden that seems boundless. A stone that once was part of a building and is now returning to nature is a much better fit there.
