I just started with your awesome book. I was next to a young man when I did my first box squats. Into the exercise I sat too long and spoke out loud to my self “‘DON’T SIT!” And he jumped up. Bless him I guess I’m so old he had to obey.

Great video. I just wrecked my lower back trying to set a pr on hip thrust (went too heavy) and doing sets of squats (too much forward lean) As someone with not a lot of back and glute strength I think im gonna switch to box squats instead of back squats for the 2x4 for the first run through. oh and definitely use manageable weight and rep range for hip thrust
@momatotsosrorudodi7 жыл бұрын
Deadlifts are gonna improve your lower back strength immensely. I'm not a big guy, but my lower back is bulletproof. Just make sure you keep perfect form and don't lift weight you can't handle. It's good for glutes too.

Deadlifts did fuck all to improve my squat form. Ive got the same problem as op, too much forward lean. I think the box squat will expose the imbalance that is causing me to lean forward.

Hi Bret, I have a question. 1) I just purchased your Strong Curves book, I follow your Facebook page and read your articles on your website, but I couldn't find any specific information about the 'side butt' (dents). Q) Are there any exercises one can do on a regular basis for this problem. 2) And also I am on a weight loss journey and planning to start next week with your full body program. Q) If I am in a 20% calorie deficit and I'm am not losing weight anymore at a certain point, do I have to calculate my calories again but now based on a lower weight until I reach target weight? 4Q) Do you still recommend the Harris Benedit equation for calculating TDEE calories? There's a lot of discussion on the web regarding Harris B and the Katch McGardle (body fat percentage and muscle mass) equations. There is a really big difference in TDEE calories. 5) I have to lose 35kg (fat), but I'm a bit confused regarding your program. Q) Should I expect no gains in the glutes because I will be in a calorie defict for probably a year? After hitting my target weight following your full body program and slowly with reverse dieting eating in a surplus can I then expect any gaines in the glutes? Or by then my muscles are already used to progressive overload. I'm asking because you said advanced people don't see significant changes as when you just are a beginner. Btw, English is not my first language as you probably can tell. I hope you''ll have the time to answer my question.

Contreras discusses the side butt issue in his 2019 book: Glute Lab. I read it last month. I think you can add mass to your gluteus maximus while dieting.

Thanks. I have slight arthrosis in my left knee due to an old injury. Currently I am still doing full high & low bar squats, but a friend of mine suggested that I should switch to box squats to prolong knee health. Is there any truth to that?
@emZee19947 жыл бұрын
Yves yes there is. the more vertical the shin is the less stress on the knee. same goes for lunges and other leg exercises

What about upper back arch? How do you prevent it / create thoracic extension when squatting like that? A lot of oly lifters maintain thoracic extension.
