Hair is all about how it makes you feel, in my opinion - I've never once liked a haircut I've received in terms of style, but I always feel better that I've removed dead hair or don't have that literal weight on my shoulders. That said I do like your cut, I think it looks great! :) Also, I feel you should know that when you first started the Buffy series, I had never seen Buffy but still thoroughly enjoyed listening to you talk about it. Then, after your season 4 episodes, I was like....ok I am invested now, I must watch! Just finally finished S3 and starting S4 - thanks for bringing this show to my life, inadvertently! :)

I am commenting before I watch this. I'll add more later. I know that SMG doesn't like this season because she thinks it's a betrayal of her character. I disagree. I think the supreme level of darkness and despair is perfectly in line with someone who's trying to come to grips with being pulled out of heaven and dumped back into the shit.

I agree with you. I can empathise with SMG, it must be really difficult to see this character you've grown up with evolve into something you didn't expect and don't want. But I think it works perfectly, it's dark and raw and real, and takes the show to levels I couldn't have imagined in season 1. In real life, we don't always turn out to be the people we wanted to be either.

I relate so deeply to the “it has to go now” feeling - I’ve spent too many 2ams chopping and dyeing my hair. Sometimes regretting it (sometimes not). I think the realisation that it doesn’t really matter is sometimes freeing (sometimes not) lol. What even are opinions. Okay, ready for a Buffy update! Thank you for another video!

Tara's death was devastating, I'm still not over it. It wasn't just the fact that she was killed, it was how she died that made it so shocking. It wasn't a spell, a demon, a vampire, or even a god that killed her, it was just a regular piece of shit with a gun. That slice of real world violence made it even more jarring and brutal and I agree the trio are the scariest villains in the entire series. When Dark Willow emerged I was all about it, I cheered and cried when she got revenge on Warren. Losing Tara was absolutely crushing. As for the rest of s6, I agree about liking the more serious tonal shift of the story telling as well. Like you said, it's post season 4 the shift starts and I think it demonstrates a show sort of maturing with its characters. For example, Buffy's depression. As someone who suffers from depression it was kind of refreshing to hear Buffy talk to Spike about the moment to moment pain of existing, I feel like her depression has always been an undercurrent throughout the series but s6 really made it clear that she is dealing with some shit. Speaking of Spike, I totally agree with you on thinking he wanted to take out his chip. Him wanting to become fully evil was how it came across to me and the idea that he was trying to get his soul back never crossed my mind until it was revealed at the very last scene, I was shocked when it happened. Anyway, I think season 6 is fantastic even with all the horrible things that happen and "Once more, with Feeling" is incredible, I think I'm going to watch that episode again soon. Yes, yes and absolutely yes. It's such an important season. I'm glad they weren't afraid to show that if a character has to take hit after hit after hit, they're not going to be the same person. It's something that a lot of shows never do. Season 6 is dark and ugly, and that's what makes it beautiful and important. But they really dropped the ball with Spike. Nothing is perfect, I guess, but that's a painful mistake to make and it was painful to watch.

​@@ASMRvelous I think it was pretty brave of them changing the mood of the show and really expanding on the themes set up in the early seasons. They could have easily kept the same formula going and I'm sure it would have continued to be super enjoyable but I'm glad they took such a big risk and I think the show benefited greatly from exploring that darkness. Having said that, while I commend them on that change I totally agree with you on how they handled Spike. Like you can't just introduce something as serious as an assault and then deal with the aftermath of it so clumsily. I don't know, it just felt so unnecessary.

1000% agree. It was handled so badly. I go into that a lot more in the second part I'm posting later today. They've shown that they can handle really hard subjects incredibly well in the past, so I don't know what went wrong here. Someone else commented they felt they were punishing Buffy for her sexuality and punishing the viewer for loving Spike so much. Though I can see where that feeling comes from, I really think everyone in the writer's room was truly clueless on the subject matter and they just needed a big event to send him off on his mission. A lot of the older shows, when you watch them now, you regularly think "I can't believe they thought they could say/do that!" Buffy doesn't make many of the other classic mistakes, but in this you can really see the times reflected. I really wish they would have just had him try to bite/kill her. Or at the VERY LEAST make him immediately descend into a miserable heap and slink away, instead of this angry mission to give "that bitch what she deserves"

I also didn't quite get what happened to Spike - I understood that he was going to take revenge on Buffy, but it was demon's little surprise to give him the soul back. I got that he didn't plan it at all, so I was surprised later when he was saying "but I got the soul for you" like it was something he intended to do. I was confused by this storyline...of course it would be nicer to think he wanted to get the soul, but yeah it didn't come across like that to me. Also love dark Willow

Yes! Exactly! And it's like everyone just forgot what happened before and accepted "Yes, he wanted to get his soul back." I just couldn't buy it. The so-called ambiguous writing was not ambiguous enough. And yes, I always loved Giles, so much, but I just couldn't forgive or forget that. Thank you for really listening and commenting :)

But perhaps I'm not the best person to compare to, as my psych says I've "eaten my hippocampus", whatever that means;) I also was shocked;) that we are "permitted" to omit some seasons and just choose episodes to watch, I never could do that with linear stories, my mind sometimes gets stuck on some idea how to do the thing "the right way". Well the only exception was "Once more, with feeling", which was actually the one that got me into Buffy. Anyways thank you for making the videos, ASMR rarely is so engaging mentally!

I never have thought about whether the writers intended to go a different direction with spike until you said that but honestly it makes a lot of sense. I’ve always chocked that up to cheesy writing but why would they take him to such a dark place (attempting SA) only to have him turn around and make that decision. It does make more sense that they intended on going full villain with him but because the fan reaction wasn’t what they expected they back pedalled.

There were some very powerful episodes in that season but I remember being really being bummed out by the Buffy was in heaven revelation and also Willow being dishonest with Tara. I guess I liked the earlier seasons lighter tone, just my preference but there were a lot of cool parts in the season and when Willow turned evil it was a relief from all the depressing things that were happening.

I can definitely understand that. When I'm rewatching single episodes, I always go for the lighter ones from the early seasons. But season 6 is still one of my favourites precisely due to its darkness. Like you said, it's personal preference

Love the Hair Girl 😍 Dark Willow was something unexpected back in the day when watching this and she is by far one of my favorite Villains U can say of the show. Overall Season 5 Glory tops them all. I didn't really like that Trio Crap.

I love season 6 but I think the writing choices with Spike in Seeing Red and the following episodes are the worst choices in Buffy. It feels like they are punishing Buffy’s sexuality (which the show does a lot) and punishing the viewers that liked Spike, even though they worked hard to make him more likeable in seasons 4 and 5 and use James Marsters as eye candy. And then they handle the “ambiguity” of Spike getting his soul badly so it just feels like misleading writing. I like to believe that Spike did want his soul and his anger was towards himself not Buffy, without that season 7 just feels 😬 (the fact that he calls her a bitch doesn’t help that though)

I absolutely agree. They were terrible choices. More than that I think it was irresponsible even. I expand on that a lot in the second part that I'm posting tomorrow. The misleading writing around the soul just added insult to injury. Even if he had been immediately remorseful and clear about his mission, it would have been impossible to forgive him, but maybe we could have understood him or something, but this shit? Extremely 😬😬😬 and a terrible, terrible choice

My odd suggestion if you’re not happy with your hair because last year I did a massive chop too. I cut it to about your length which was very short for me and didn’t like it. Then I decided to go even shorter, above shoulders and loved it. Maybe try EVEN SHORTER 😈 From my perspective, you look great now though either way

Haha, I can see how that might work for some, but my main reason for being unhappy with it is that I have so few options to style it now. Going shorter would mean zero options. If I lose the bun, I will legit cry, lol. Also, with my curl pattern, it needs some length/weight to fall down. If I go shorter, it will just puff out and I'll look like a triangle.
