In an episode with a pretty stupid premise, Buffy is doing dishes. Buffy is listening to her mom rave. Buffy turns on the radio with some spicy Latin music. Buffy starts sobbing, and it just flat breaks me. Every time.

Nice set of videos you are making. I like how they are long and detailed and you talk about all the important points of the season. It's always fun to find another Buffy fan who enjoys the show as much as I always have! I like your DVD collection even though the sets are different to the ones I own. They're pretty old and it's a shame they don't list the episode titles on the DVD or cover, but they've done me well all this time so :)

"The Body" is one of the greatest episodes of television I've ever seen. I feel like in most shows they never really portray grief realistically, like someone dies, characters are sad and then it's straight to the funeral and that's it. To show tragedy in real time and the in between moments after is something I've never seen translated so accurately by a tv show before. It was incredible to watch and also incredibly difficult to watch as well because it made me relive my own fathers death and I was not prepared for that absolute gut punch of an episode, just brilliant and devastating at the same time. As for the season as a whole, I loved season 5. Glory is definitely my favorite villain, she reminds me of The Mayor in that they're both totally unique characters with so much personality and I agree she really is the first villain to feel like an actual threat to Buffy and everyone else, I remember watching and thinking "How in the hell are they going to defeat this person/god?!". I thought the story line with Dawn was cool, while she can be very annoying I can't help but feel bad for her especially after she finds out she and all her memories are manufactured. The stuff with Spike and the Buffy bot was so messed up, it really clouded my love for Spike as a character along with other things he does in the later season. Warren I don't even want to talk about, just absolute human garbage. Like you said, season 5 really is a turning point for the series and it really sets the tone for the final seasons. I know I've said this before but I'll say it again, I really appreciate how intently you listen and share your own thoughts on the things I say. It makes me feel heard and my time valued, thank you, again :). Anyway I fully agree with all of this. Something I thought was super well done in this season was how they portrayed how Buffy's strength increases and approach improves with every confrontation with Glory. The first time she just gets thrown around like a rag doll and doesn't manage to touch Glory. And then each time they fight after that, Buffy holds up a little bit better and manages to do more and more damage. It felt real and believable. Not just how some other shows/movies set up a villain to be near indestructable, and then suddenly the hero is stronger than them after all. And agreed about Spike. I had such a hard time finding the words to describe him and my feelings towards the character in the season 6 videos. It's a mess and so sad and disappointing

@@ASMRvelous Thank you for saying that, I really do love hearing your thoughts on this show. These videos are like a therapy session or something for me lol, unpacking and processing all these feelings for this incredible show makes me appreciate it even more, so thank you again for that. Also, I finally finished s7 and I really loved it, save for two things that really, really annoyed me but we'll save that for later. Back to season 5, that is a great point about how they show Buffy sort of "leveling up" as the season progressed. That first fight with Glory was so damn good, it showed how incredibly powerful she was compared to Buffy and also how funny Glory is as well, she says something like "Oh you have super powers, can you fly?" then she launches Buffy across the room, just hilarious and really effective. As for Spike it really just sucks because I like his character and I think there are some amazing scenes later on with him showing how tortured and remorseful he is but it doesn't change the fact that he did those horrible and irredeemable things, it's really hard to look at him the same way after s5 and s6.

I'm so glad you enjoyed the show's ending! I have a lot of issues with season 7, but I think they did a great job with the finale episodes. So often great shows do not get a great ending, or get drawn out so long until they're not great anymore, and I was so happy that the show got a solid, worthy ending. I'm glad you liked it too :). Thanks for giving this show a shot, it 100% deserves it.

And yes, The Body. 1st, the look on Dawn's teacher's face when she's looking through the window at them in the hallway. 2nd, the way Willow is obsessing over what clothes to wear. "Why do all my shirts have to have stupid stuff on them?". When my dad died, I went over to the house to find mom changing all the bedsheets to prepare for all the people that would be coming. Whedon was so right. In times like that, you find the littlest things to focus on because you feel like the distraction is the only thing keeping you together.

I wanted to sleep, but this is too good. Season 5, one of my absolute favorites. I kinda hated dawn at first, but she grew on me. Episode where Joyce dies...it broke me even before I lost my mom. I don't think I can ever watch that again. Spike was just brilliant all season. BRILLIANT

I never minded Dawn. I get her character and I think MT did a great job. And Spike. OMG. " I know you don't love me. I know I'm a monster. But you treat me like a man". Willing to be beaten to death rather than turn on any of them. " I'm just tired of seeing the Summers women taking it on the chin" . Marsters is brilliant.

What you said about shows having “stakes”.. Season 5 is the only season where I think EVERYONE’S life was in danger, at any moment somebody could’ve fallen victim & died within the ongoing war between Glory They tried to mimic this in S7 but the main character death we did get felt forced & almost like a personal punishment towards the actor themselves rather than a final piece to the story

Yes! Totally! It was the first and last time I was genuinely worried about all of them. You're right that it didnwt work in season 7. Especially not with all the potentials thrown to be used as First Evil fodder. I did really enjoy Caleb as a villain but it wasn't the same.

Him preparing for the inevitable battle, getting to see him terrorize people, his crazy prayers, that’s what worked so well with Glory! She wasn’t the big bad hiding in the shadows, she was in our face & we saw everything, we really got to feel the tension throughout 5 which I feel is what really lacked in 7.

Agreed, Caleb had a lot of potential to be a truly disturbing villain, the sort that pops up in your brain at night. I definitely wish they would have invested in him more.

I thought the way they added Dawn was brilliant, but like you said she's supposed to be annoying. Glory reminded me a little too much of some singers I used to play bass for in local bands, I guess I was one of the little sycophantic trolls that she had, lol!

You can't compare Xander's behavior to how evil Warren is. Xander has a lot of bad moments throughout the series, but in the end he's a loyal friend to Buffy, Willow, Giles and Dawn. Xander's heart is always in the right place even if his actions don't always show that because of his jealousies and insecurites.

I agree you can't really compare the two, since one is a legit sociopath and the other just your typical scummy man. But the issue is that Warren is acknowledged as evil, while Xander is portrayed throughout the whole show as a good guy. He is not a good guy. So that makes the character annoying on another level for me. Warren does damage in the show, the character of Xander does damage in the real world. But yeah, at the end of the day Xander only frustrates me while Warren makes me feel physically sick.
