Even though there is a place in my heart that can’t be filled with anything except a physical book collection, there is no denying how much-reading has changed my experience accessibility and convenience. The direct download form Libby to an e-reader?? Perfection.

I had considered buying a kindle for a long time but I couldn't let go of physical books. But I didn't realise until now that the kindle doesn't strain your eyes like a phone and you can read at night (which I love!). I was surprised to hear that the experience is like reading a paperback too. Alas I do think the idea that ebooks being far more cheaper will be my ultimate reason to cave. All in all, this is honestly so helpful and informative thank you so much!! 💕💕

one thing i’ll do if i’m reading an e-book with a glossary or a map is that i’ll find a copy of it on google and take a screen shot of it, so instead of trying to flip back and fourth on my kindle i can just look at the picture on my phone. hopefully this helps 💜💜💜

Amazon only grudgingly allowed Kindles library access in America, but not the rest of the world. Amazon now withholds their ebooks & audio books from all public libraries. It's monopoly is squeezing them.

One thing I like to do with my Kobo is read articles from the web that I have saved to my Pocket account. I have a bunch of sites saved to an RSS reader on my phone and will add anything that interests me. That way I have a selection of 5-10 minute reads on me at most times.

Something to note is I'm pretty sure PDFs only really function on larger e-readers (like 8-10" screens). Definitely an important point if you're like me and mainly want an e-reader for textbook PDFs!

I got my first ereader as a kobo touch in 2013-2014ish and am now upgrading to the libra 2 bc i really want the backlit feature and overdrive. I'm also excited to try out the page buttons as my current one doesnt have any. I mainly get my current ebooks online and transfer them to my ereader which is really easy with kobo hence why I'm sticking to it :)

Very informative! I had a Nook AGES ago and had liked that fine, but had forgotten about it or broke it or whatever and returned to traditional reading. After a long reading slump (and honestly, new reading habits built by reading fanfic), I’d decided to get a Kindle Oasis (I wish I’d known of Kobo at the time!) and it’s improved my reading SO much. I just find that I’m so much more comfortable and motivated to read ebooks vs paper, I’m sure because of everything else we consume being digital. I was never really a note taker or notate-er but the few times I’ve gone back to paper i hated not being able to highlight or quick search for things I’ve noted. I also love hearing about people’s reading habits. Thanks for the fun video!!

I got myself a PaperWhite in grad school bc I wanted something easier on my eyes, but it does kind of limit some of my ebook choices thru there, as anything with color (comics, graphic novels, etc) is lost. Whenever the device finally kicks the bucket, I want to get away from Am*zon, even though I do own a couple ebooks thru them. (Luckily I mainly use ereading for library books, & a lot of ebooks I've received have been not locked to Kindle files) Since I mostly read library books, I may just settle for a tablet & use the Libby & Hoopla apps since you can read in the apps.

great overview. I would add that the position and recessed power button on the Kobo is way better than the kindle power button on the bottom and side loading books onto the Kobo is a way better experience. the Kobo is suposed to handle Mobi format (so they say on their website) but epubs are a way better format. I have recently purchased a Clara 2e, what a great 6" ereader, (whereas the Libra 2 is a 7"), I really like the 6" size, super portable, and a very sharp screen and usb C makes me so happy. Happy reading.

I love being able to highlight ebooks though, it is SO easy and I don't always have page tabs with me when I'm reading paper books. This is such a fantastic comparison, thank you! I really appreciate that you included tablets as a viable option. I refuse to support Amazon so I was considering Kobo, but that would mean I couldn’t access certain ebook and audiobook subscriptions I have (which Kobo Plus doesn’t seem comparable to…disappointing) and it’s important to me that I can color code my annotations. This just confirmed for me that I’m in that minority of people who would have a better experience with an iPad than an e-reader..

I love ereaders. E-ink with a built in light is great, make the text the right size to not strain your eyes as much. Dictionary to help my weak vocabulary is so convenient. I would avoid kindle, their proprietary format and not accepting epub is lame. If there is a Kindle exclusive you can use calibre to convert the file from mobi to epub. From a sustainability standpoint, I think most ereaders take about the same carbon footprint as 20-30 paperbacks. If you can buy an ereader second hand then you are doing great things for the environment then. Plus you can check out library books at home rather than having to drive to the library to check out and return books.

So I’m new to e reading. I preface this because my question may sound ignorant. I just bought a kindle paper white it was on sale at target so I decided to get it. Anyway your video popped up in my recommended I know it’s from a while ago. So I’m sorry if maybe you answered this in a different video. I know I’ve seen people say that e readers are different than other tablets but I guess I’m confused on why sometimes there’s a wait for a e book from the library. I’m Kind of curious how that works. As I said I don’t know a lot about e reading I’m trying to get back into reading which is why I bought the kindle. I guess I’m just unsure why there would be a wait when it’s not a physical book. As I said I’m a bit ignorant when it comes to this subject. I get not being able to keep a book from the library on an e reader for unlimited time. like time limit makes sense to me because otherwise obviously what would be the point in buying a book if you could have unlimited time from the library. I guess I’m just confused on why you have to wait for a book.
@tammietriestoread
@tammietriestoread 2 жыл бұрын
Regardless of whether you use the library with an e-reader or an app on a tablet/phone, there will be a wait time because that is just how libraries work. There are only a certain number of copies of a book at your library, so you'll have to wait for them to become available. There are some services like hoopla that are on-demand with no wait time, but overdrive works just like you'd expect from a physical library. I hope that makes sense!

Excellent review. Left no stones upturned. I want to add on that if one is reading fantasy books with intricate maps e-readers are really hopeless as maps doesn't render well on e-readers as well as images. Until now I can't seem to know how to zoom in on maps in an ereader. Maybe someone here can share a tip on how to do that on a Kindle. I normally read my thrillers on my kindle. But fantasy books it is hard to read on e-readers especially when you want to refer to the maps.
