The easiest way to add drama and flair to any wedding or event is through the use of fresh foliage garlands. In this video clip Leanne discuses the many uses for garlands as she demonstrates pre-made garland, layered garland and how to create your own custom garland using foliages from FiftyFlowers.com. She also demonstrates how to enhance garland and how to calculate the amount of foliages and the footage of garland needed for an event. Enjoy!

I just found your video! Love it! I like to make real garland, but here in the south, some types are not available, if your in the woods cutting your own. We have 161 acres of mostly short leaf pine trees, and we have one long leaf pine with the large cones. I have discovered cutting cedar when it has the blue seedlings on it and putting it in the freezer, it does last about a week.

That's an excellent tip, Janet! Thank you for sharing it with us and for watching our show. How wonderful to have so many resources available to you on your acres. It's true that different areas have different materials. We are fortunate to have so many types of evergreens available to us here in the Pacific Northwest, and they work beautifully for garlands. We appreciate you sharing your experience with us and we hope that you will continue to join us for fabulous floral design here on our channel. Sending you best wishes and hope you have a truly splendid weekend!

May I ask what gauge wire you used in the example in the video? I would love to try this, but I tried something similar with 26 gauge and 12 gauge wires (which were the only things I could get my hands on), and it snapped or sprung open respectively. Alternatively, would a rough but strong twine work as well? They are all beautiful examples!

I'm glad that you enjoyed this..... I would suggest paddle wire. It is designed specifically for making garland..... www.floraldesigninstitute.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=3_28&products_id=229&zenid=c3kd9f691t24c4sk03uhutohm4

Foliage brings so much to a floral design, Amber! As always, very nice video. How long ahead of an event can you make these ? Do you keep them refrigerated ? How long will they last beautifully ?
@FlowerSchool
@FlowerSchool 5 жыл бұрын
Thank you! You could make the garland two to three weeks ahead of time depending on the foliage. Once completed spray well with Crowning Glory, place it in a plastic bag, and store it in the cooler. Once displayed the garland should last up to a week depending on the temperature and types of foliage used.

If I don’t have refrigerator and wedding is Friday, what day can I start doing my 8ft garland and how can I keep it
@FlowerSchool
@FlowerSchool 3 жыл бұрын
That's an interesting question, Norma! It really depends on so many things: the materials you are using, the time of year, and the weather where you are. One to two days head would probably work if the materials were well hydrated in fresh water and flower food ahead of time and then the finished product is stored in a cool location. Spraying it with Crowning Glory would help keep the moisture in as well. Thanks so much for stopping by to watch our show today and we hope you will visit us again soon!

I'm sorry to ask a stupid question but if you make the garland a week before the event will they last or do you need to do 1-2 days before?
@FlowerSchool
@FlowerSchool Жыл бұрын
Actually that's an excellent question, Pip! If your greens are fresh, then they should last much longer. Foliage generally lasts longer than flowers do. We do suggest spraying your garlands with an anti-transpirant like Crowning Glory, which locks in the moisture and helps keep the garland beautiful. This video will help you do that easily: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ipCYhK2hgs-ErtE Then you can add flowers closer to the event if you want. Thank you for taking the time to watch our show, and we hope to see you again very soon. Best wishes and Happy New Year to you!
