Yes I'd love to! So when I applied the first time (I got rejected the first time) I applied on November 3rd, which was the deadline at the time. I think they got back to me with a rejection letter around January? I don't fully remember. The time I got accepted, I applied very early (within the first week of it opening, so probably mid-September) and they extended an interview invite in mid-October (about 4 weeks later). I interviewed with them late October and around 2 weeks later I got the offer! Then, I entered the team-matching phase and I was assigned to a team & location by mid-December!

Thank you! I'm glad to hear that you like the quality because I work really hard on my videos :) In terms of the interviews themselves, they specifically choose questions based on your level of experience. I think you can definitely expect easy range for STEP (maybe an easier medium-level question) but it's specifically based on what you would/should know based on the projects and classes on your resume.

Hello! I think regardless of what you specialize in (back-end, Android development, Web development, etc), they will still ask about Data Structures and Algorithms. Hey! I would definitely recommend applying, you don't need multiple programming languages in order to apply. You can also do the coding interview in any language that you prefer, so anything is good. In terms of writing the resume, I would make sure you include some relevant technical projects (these can be from classes, personal things you work on, etc) or work experiences that you may have had. I also think it's a good idea to list off relevant classes that you have so that they know about your technical abilities! Is the program eligible for international students? I heard that there are options in Europe. Is there a “salary” to maintain yourself? What was your everyday life like?
@MeganPhibbons4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the questions! I believe they do have options in Europe, as well as Canada! I'm not sure about other countries but you should definitely check depending on your location. In terms of salary, STEP interns get paid hourly rates (I don't fully remember what the rate was, but it was definitely competitive). Additionally, they give you a relocation bonus to cover any flights/moving things you may need to get to your location! My every day life was amazing, I typically would come into the office, make some coffee while chatting with my coworkers, and sit down to start work for the day. Around noon, I would take a lunch break in a Google cafe (they prepare free breakfast, lunch, and dinner each day) with my team. After eating lunch, I would usually take a quick walk around the trail right outside of our building before getting back to work. I would typically start my day around 8:30 AM and end around 5:30 PM but the hours are extremely flexible and totally up to you! Hope this helps :)

Hey! First of all, congrats on accepting your offer! I personally did STEP after my sophomore year, then got a return offer for the SWE internship the following summer. I then got the return offer to convert to full-time for when I graduate! The process honestly isn't too bad, you just write a midpoint evaluation 6 weeks into the internship and then a final evaluation in the last week. Both your host and co-host write feedback on your performance, then all of your information goes to the hiring committee - and I mean ALL of it - past interviews, your original resume, your new resume, your hosts' feedback, your project writeups, etc. Then they decide whether or not you have to interview (I didn't have to interview for STEP to SWE, but I did have to interview for SWE to Full Time). I hope this was helpful! I'll probably make a video a bit later into the summer explaining the full process :)

@MeganPhibbons4 жыл бұрын
@@jacquelinevalle3313 yes good luck! I just posted a video about how to prep for technical interviews that you may find helpful. As a first year, one of your interviews will be a coding interview and the other will most likely be just answering technical/theory questions or doing some debugging. That's not officially posted anywhere, but I believe that's how it was for my friends who got STEP in their first year!

Hello mam!! How much skills person must have to apply for step internship ?
@MeganPhibbons3 жыл бұрын
Honestly, I don't think you really need any (although having skills definitely helps). The program itself is designed for beginners, so if you don't have any skills going in, that's fine! To better your chances, I would recommend having concrete skills in at least one programming language and at lease one personal project to make your resume stand out :)

I believe you can apply, you just have to go to the Google Careers site (you can search it on Google) and search for roles at your location. Your skills sound like a good fit though!

Maam, I am in class 10 currently, I am from India . What all Programming language should I learn . I have learnt Python and Kotlin. What all do I need to apply for it ?. Please take a little bit of time from your busy schedule. To answer this question. 🙏
@MeganPhibbons4 жыл бұрын
Hello! In terms of programming languages, I think it's always a good idea to have a solid foundation in something like Java (object-oriented), something like Python, and some sort of front-end or mobile development. It seems like you have Python and Kotlin covered, so if you're interested in learning something new, I would recommend Java! For the programming interviews particularly, I would just use whichever language you're most comfortable with.

Hello Megan, I also have applied for STEP internship program. I have already applied to 3 places. So, should I apply at more ppaces using different e-mail Id. Pleas respond.
@MeganPhibbons4 жыл бұрын
Hello! I would recommend to not do this. They specifically ask you to not apply to more than three programs, and they will know if you just change the email and keep applying. Companies want you to respect their rules, so if you try to bypass them, it may hurt all of your applications (rather than bettering your chances).

Hey I want to know about 1. difference between apply online and by referral? 2. If I apply by referral than I need to apply through online? 3. What kind of questions ask in interview? Both behavioural and technical? How to prepare for it? Thanks in advance.
@MeganPhibbons4 жыл бұрын
Hey! Great questions. I think applying with a referral puts you in a separate applicant pool and makes it more likely for your application to get looked at closely. If you apply through a referral, you do not need to apply online! You can even double check with the person who referred you to make sure your application went through. In terms of what they ask in an interview, it's primarily technical. If you want, you can check out the video I just posted "How To Ace The Technical Interview" for advice on prepping for interviews and some types of questions I've seen in interviews. I go over coding challenges (which Google does send to some applicants), Whiteboarding interviews (aka the phone call you'd have with an engineer), and theory questions (typically Google STEP asks these to first-year students). Let me know if you have any other questions after watching that video!
@MeganPhibbons4 жыл бұрын
The only real way to prepare is to practice! Try doing some mock interviews or leetcode problems to get yourself ready for the interview. In terms of getting a referral, it’s best to ask for one from someone you already have a relationship (work, friendship, etc) with instead of just asking random people on LinkedIn. I personally don’t get referrals to people unless I know them or have worked closely with them before, and I think many others are the same. Hope this helps!

Hi Megan! I’m just slightly confused on the part where you mentioned ‘if u apply with a referral, you don’t need to apply online.’ So then do we not need to apply at all or do we send our application to the referrer who then uploads it? Would the application be the same just uploaded differently? I was also wondering around what time we should ask a person for a referral with respect to application dates. Should we only ask them in the open timeframe or is asking a month or so before the applications even open up a better idea? Lastly, would you recommend getting as many referrals as possible or is one the optimal level? Thank you very much in advance for taking the time out to answer my doubts!
@TumblinWeeds4 жыл бұрын
How difficult were your interview questions and when did you do the interview (date)? I just applied because it seemed like the one most fit for someone like me who only has a few projects and no work experience. I’m not really expecting to hear back because my resume is ridiculously empty and today is the last day of applications, but if I do I don’t want to be unprepared.
@TumblinWeeds4 жыл бұрын
Also was there any kind of salary or was it like a volunteering position?
@MeganPhibbons4 жыл бұрын
The interview questions for STEP are specifically chosen based on your level of experience (specifically based on classes). For me, I found them to be very doable, because your interviewers want you to succeed! I think I did my interview mid-October for STEP, but things might be a bit later this year because of covid. I hope you hear back and good luck!!

For STEP North America, they paid us hourly and I believe the hourly wage depends on location and role. I don't usually share the exact amount that they pay, but I can guarantee that it is competitive with other big tech companies!

I’m currently in the first year of computer science engineering. I’m experienced in one of the required programming languages. Should I apply for it this year or next year? Also, are we required to be from the location of the internship?

I would recommend at least applying this year! You don't need to hit every single requirement in order to apply, the purpose of the program is to teach. Also, I don't think you need to be from the location, but you may need to go to university there!
