What is a Class 9 hazmat?
Recently we talked about all 9 classes of hazardous materials regulated around the world (and their divisions). In this video, we take a closer look at Hazard Class 9, the "miscellaneous" hazard class that includes materials like lithium batteries, asbestos fibers, hazardous wastes, marine pollutants, and a whole lot more. These are the hazardous materials that don't fit into any other category 1 through 8.
This video gives you the details about the SIX TYPES OF CLASS 9 HAZMAT:
1:46 Materials designated as Class 9 by US DOT in the HMR
2:15 Airplane hazards
3:07 Hazardous waste
3:37 Hazardous substances
4:11 Marine pollutants
4:29 Elevated temperature materials

HAZMAT TRAINING is required by law for anyone who does a job like identifying a hazardous material, assigning a hazard class, choosing packaging, packing a box, filling a container, affixing labels, loading a vehicle, or any other task that "affects the safety of the shipment in transportation."
The US Hazardous Materials Regulations (HMR) refer to these workers as “hazmat employees" and require them to be trained within 90 days of hire date or job assignment. Comprehensive hazmat re-training or "recurrent" hazmat training is required every 3 years, at a minimum. See 49 CFR 172.704.
