Thank you so much for sharing this information it helped me a lot to know about this information 👍 and also liked the way u explained and gave examples about each of them 👍

Batteries and similar energy sources are stupid things to play about about with no offence to those who make innocent mistakes but some people obviously arent responsible enough and others have to take responsibility for them...

Hi Gregory. Thank you for checking out the video, and for the constructive feedback. You can see all 9 classes of hazardous materials listed and described in this free guide: www.Lion.com/Start Here is a blog post with details about each of the 9 hazard classes: www.lion.com/lion-news/march-2024/hazmat-video-essentials-the-9-hazard-classes Also, if it helps, you can adjust the playback speed of the video by clicking on the "Settings'" button. Thank you again, and happy Thanksgiving!

You mentioned Lithium Batteries, but wouldn't those be classed under Corrosive due to the acid in the batteries?
@LionTraining29 күн бұрын
Hi Jon-Great question! Unlike some other batteries, lithium batteries do not contain acid. They contain lithium ions suspended in an electrolyte solution (typically a lithium/salt solution). The ions move between an anode and cathode to charge and/or power your device, vehicle, etc. @JonFromWA On the other hand: Lead acid batteries (like most car batteries) ARE classified as Class 8, CORROSIVE in transportation. See the entry "UN 2794, Batteries, wet, filled with acid, 8" as an example. Thank you for checking out the video!

So if I was going to ship a tyranosaur in the hold of a bulk carrier ship, I would need to placard as a class 9, miscellaneous?
@LionTraining29 күн бұрын
John, you might need different regulations and labels for this one. Don't worry, though-life finds a way.

What are the regulations to ship devices, specifically computer motherboards and vintage video game cartridges, that have lithium metal coin cells installed to preserve their time and/or save memory?

Great question, @soundspark. Thank you for really explaining this. Well about the training requirements. I am a truck driver and a lot of the times I haul hazardous material. 9 times out of 10. The shipper has done something incorrectly. What is the enforcement, how do you report a shipper that has no idea what a shipper certification is? One that doesn't even have any labels? What am I supposed to do as a driver?
@Smoke-Screen.8 ай бұрын
The data could be falsified, the battery could be a scam and "look" like it's supposed to but everyone should still check and verify. Check Amp/Hour claims for sure. I've already spotted a few fakes out there.

The Wh rating of a lithium ion battery is not a measurement of how much energy (in Watts) the battery will expend over one hour. A Watt is one Joule per second. An hour is 3600s. One Wh is 3600 J. The Wh rating of a battery is a measure of how much energy is in the battery.
@Milesco5 ай бұрын
Exactly right! 👍 On a related matter, I can't stand it when people (typically newscasters or KZbin content creators who obviously have no idea what they're talking about) talk about kilowatts as if that's a measure of energy, or "watts per hour", which is utterly meaningless. That really drives me nuts!

Essentially correct, however Lithium metal cells and batteries come in a much wider range than what is described. These larger lithium metal cells and batteries are use in industrial applications of various types.

When reusing the Lithium cells from ( thousands ! ) of discarded disposable vapes , NEVER charge more than 4.2 volts per cell , and if using multiple high voltage stacks without proper battery management electronics , the only safe option is to charge each cell individually , this takes AGES , but is quite safe ( tried - n - tested ) ...... Trying to warranty ship a 200ah 2400watt hour battery back to dealer. A 200 mile distance. Have the proper packaging... 3480/ class 9 with proper label with phone number. Fedex nor UPS will ship it. What is going on? The Dealer is now attempting to help with the return which they should be responsible for providing a method to return the battery.

where do you get the warning stickers from if you are shipping a cell phone? I don't see anywhere in eBay to have them print one of those for you when you print your shipping label when you sell a cell phone on eBay. I just sold two this morning and don't know how to mark them appropriately. Thanks in advance for telling me where to get the warning sticker from.

Great question, and congratulations on the sale! There are many commercial suppliers of hazmat labels, markings, packaging, etc. A web search will yield a range of options to purchase labels/markings required to ship. Aside from the mandatory training that Lion provides for shippers of lithium batteries - see Lion.com/Lithium - other resources to consider for assistance would be your package carrier (i.e., USPS, UPS, FedEx, etc.) or the US DOT's Hazardous Materials Info Center: www.phmsa.dot.gov/standards-rulemaking/hazmat/hazardous-materials-information-center Happy holidays, and happy shipping!
