"Foraging" scares me because I see too many people oblivious to the safety of wildflowers! I have tended my mom's native wildflower garden since her death 32 years ago and back then her garden club didn't just forage. On private land with woods, the landowner allowed just one plant to be dug up. It was brought home and it has flourished in our wildflower area. We used to have a garden nursery that sold native wildflowers. Our state has a law that you cannot forage (or dig up or cut) these wildflowers. I think some people don't take the time to educate themself and just grab them/dig them up or they ride their bike over them... They don't think about its habitat and how so many native species, pollinators, etc are at risk! It hurts to see that. I hope people will think about this. Also, if they do the No Mow May, many nice things will get a chance to bloom for the pollinators and possibly some of those plants could be used. I only buy or grow with NO NEONICOTINOIDS because I care about bees and pollinators. Only 2 places in my town of over a million sells no nics. Ug. Thank you for saying to your followers to think about being eco conscious; try to buy more locally. Take care.

Herbal magic is a great way for people to reconnect with Nature and the spirits of the land, something we desperately need. I miss being able to spend time in the forest and with plants easily. It's hard to forage in Los Angeles so I usually have to rely on buying herbs from the store. Thanks for the tips though!

Dave Canterbury’s book Bush Craft 101 has been great for me. Both in spiritual work just just preparedness in general. If I’m gonna be in the woods, I may as well know how to survive there too if need be.

Lots of info! Thanks! Thank you for the fire safety tip with dried herbs. I put a piece of rosemary in a candle stupidly once. Got scary quick. But was extinguished quickly. But sure won't do again.

I love all herbs and plants, I've been gardening since I was a kid/teenager, and I always loved lavender. It's one of the only things to somehow get rid of my anxiety. All I do is break a leaf and smell it and I am so calm and happy. I don't know why, but it works! And it has to be from the plant directly, if its from essential oils, it does calm me and make me sleepy, but it takes longer for it to fully calm my anxiety. Oddly enough, I've always had trouble growing it from seed here at my home. And when I get a transplant to propagate it, it doesnt grow. It dries up on me or gets root rot which is odd, because my area gets so much sunshine and it should be growing easily since they can get quite invasive in many homes here. I guess I will have to talk to the spirit of the land here to see what is going on? Who knows, but yes as a green witch, I love all plants and they are truly a gift from nature to use in my magick. Im making an herb garden with my coven, so yay! Go plants!

My favorite herb is lemon verbena. I grow several plants of it, because I just adore the smell. It is planted where I brush against it as I tend my garden, so I can really enjoy the fragrance I like to keep an open bowl of the dried herb in my apartment, and I occasionally crush a few leaves to release more of the fragrance. As a brand spanking new baby witch, I've learned that it is good for purification and for protection spells, and it can be used to boost the effectiveness of any other spell. Awesome!

Excellent introductory discussion. I am also a content creator in our niche, and enjoy looking at what others have to say, especially when the information is useful such as yours and the person presenting the information is friendly and down to earth. I have been digging around your web site also, great articles! FYI, your link to your blog is linking to your custom 404 error page.

Also there are lots of shops locally that will have herbs! Like apothecary's and metaphysical stores, I would recommend those first! Plus you can ask about any herbal classes they might have!

I know Las Vegas is a little more barren than where I grew up in Mojave area california, but if you are able to find a desert plant book, you might be pleasantly surprised by some of those dried out shrubs and their associations or uses that occurred to you.

I grew up in the Mojave desert in california, and now I live in the Sonoran desert in Arizona. So I have lots of books of desert wildflowers, medicinal herbs, and edible plants. It is an absolutely endless source of knowledge. My wand is even made of desert ironwood, and that was not easy to find!

Just to be clear, I don't mean it's a rare tree. It is just a very hard wood that not many wood workers risk their tools on.

@Susanna F that’s cool, my earliest wand was made from the stalk/stem of a chia plant, second from the stem of a red rose. My first one is special to me since I love chia seeds and after my first chia plants life ended I used it to make my first wand.

When I told my bestie I was going to really get into studying herbalism he started sending me books he thought would help. Sure witchy books are great and all but he sent me a gold mine. Old herbal remedy books. Books on how to survive off the land and similar. I really want to find an old Appalachian remedy book. There's just some ways of using what the land provides you just can't learn from witches who never heard of it!

You bring up petitions really briefly at 13:58, do you mind talking more about it please?
@TheOakWitch
@TheOakWitch 2 жыл бұрын
Petitions are pieces of paper you add into spellworkings, that have written on them your corresponding intention for the spell or a person's name who is involved in the spell. I believe that it comes from hoodoo or at least very popular in that tradition, but there's differing ways in which you can craft a petition. There's plenty of videos on KZbin about them if you wanted to have a search!

I randomly ended up here because it was in my recommended videos after watching a video about house plants. Please make sure to not poach plants and hurt the natural balance in your local area. Check what rules there are for taking plant material out of their environment in your area (or putting invasive species in) ,use your common sense and show respect for your surroundings. this is important for endangered species of course, but *especially* important for things like moss, because taking too much moss can leave the ground exposed and that can not only hurt the moss and the animals, it can also lead to the ground drying out and hurting the forest. if you've got a garden, balcony or window sill consider growing your own plants. Not only is it very rewarding and you can grow so connected to your little green baby, but it's also a good way to avoid exploiting nature in your area.

I'd like to ask you to consider not using the word "use" when referring to working with herbs and other plants. The connotation of "use" includes the idea of exploitation and also thinking of herbs as a commodity rather than as allies or beings with a spirit. Would you say that you use your human friends? We could say, "work with, rely on, connect with, etc." instead of "use." Thanks!
