As a plant biology major, I think that the boundary between botany, bushcraft, and secular non-supernatural green witchcraft is just how much wonder and appreciation you approach them with.

Finally someone who differentiates between actual medical + chemical effects of herbs and traditional corespondences. Thank you :) I feel sometimes a bit frustrated while going through books where is scientific and tradtitional knowledge mixed together which can cause some mess (I know, sometimes it works but sometimes it doesn't and it would be fair to say which knowledge is which). And it's also good to know that herbs can be really powerful and do more harm than good, e.g. St. John's wort (Hypericum perforatum) can interact with lots of antidepressants and hormonal contraception.
@Thewitchescookery3 жыл бұрын
Yeeeees, all of this 👆👆👆 This is the reason I really don't like most witchy books on the topic, as they just jumble everything together and that can be really dangerous - especially, when ingesting any herbs and plants. Funny that you mentioned St. John's wort - I had that in as an example but edited it out so it wouldn't get to longwinded hihi

Delightful video, Bex. You make a great point about the magickal correspondences and history. I agree that it's so important to understand the herbs with which you work. My parents, for example, are on a lot of medication so, when I cook for them with "outliers" I often reference a book I picked up that was written by 2 pharmacists and details herbal and pharmaceutical interactions and possible contraindictions.
@Thewitchescookery3 жыл бұрын
Thank you 💚 totally agree - especially when it comes to consuming herbs and plants (well, anything for that matter really), it is so necessary to know what they do to your body or how they interact. They can be wonderfully beneficial but if applied wrong, they might do more harm instead.

I absolutely love and enjoy all of your content! But, I must say this morning while I was preparing a cup of dried dandelion to be covered in oil and eventually to become lotion bars to help with psoriasis I was smiling just a bit harder. I've been slowly working through all of the natural harvestables since spring to make sure that I had at least a bit of each that I know I'll use through the year. And on top of being green my kitchen got much attention this morning as I baked with a bit of extra oomph to help my daughter feel better.

What book do you recommend?
@diegooland12613 жыл бұрын
What? I got Scott because it seemed like an accepted starter. Anyway, do you think there is some sort of magical "tension" between ingredients that are so far from where they grow naturally and the place they are use, it has a negative effect? I don't live where sage grows but if sage is to be used, it just seems artificial to bring it into this environment and use it because it doesn't grow here. Sort of not even close to here.
@lizhadley38033 жыл бұрын
The problem with Cunningham is he writes from a British/Celtic/Germanic background, which is very narrow and limited. I prefer Arin Murphy-Hiscock's books.
@diegooland12613 жыл бұрын
@@lizhadley3803 this is all sort of confusing. I have a British and Germanic background. Has nothing to do with my choice of Cunningham. But, if that is his perspective and that is my background, he seems like a good resource for me. Or is it more, if it works use it? Apart from some incredibly distant connection, I am not feeling a connection with Asian practices, or African. Are these practices fair game, even if I personally feel no connection to them?

Paise Hecate, someone else said it, not into the whole Scot Cunningham craze...in his herbal book he says that "baneful magick is the road to your demise", and I was like...nope. Not true. I once mentioned in a Wiccan group that I did not like his book for the solitary practitioner and got a lot of people being mean to me for it, but honestly, the book was confusing and did not help me at all. I got better help through witchcraft books that were about baneful magick. Or videos from youtube. So, whatever. Thank you for talking about plants here, I love green witchery and incorporate it into my Hedge Witchcraft. I plan to grow and harvest herbs to induce astral traveling or hedge riding, but not the dangerous flying ointments! Just whatever I feel will help under my pillow :p edit: I also have that Green Witch book....I love it. I really do. I love working with plants, I used to be a Horticulture major in college. I wanted to learn Herbalism to help heal people. I just feel that the Green Witch book doesnt go super in depth on certain topics, but a quick google search or youtube search is helpful for in depth information. If anything, its a good introduction to Green Witchery.

Personal I think it depends if you want to believe in it :) I see it as a very useful placebo

I adore your production! Where did you learn to produce and edit videos? Any suggestions for a newbie?
@Thewitchescookery3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! ❤️ I didn't - I just wing it 😄 what I find helpful is to watch a ton of KZbin from all different niches and then see what I enjoy in terms of how films are filmed and edit and the Google how to do it

@@Thewitchescookery awesome! Any editing program you prefer? I’m a GenXer so grew up with Atari! 😂 know nothing abt editing. I DO have a Canon DSLR, though. Going to take it to the Nikon store today to see if it’s compatible with my MacBook

@@Thewitchescookery I was never a green witch. But always an animal witch. Your inspiration has led me to weed the garden my abusive ex spouse left behind! So helpful to have an app that tells me what the plants are vs weeds! 😂

could you do a video about things a green witch need? like cloaks, or other objects???😗✨💙 i really wanna become a green witch🥺
@Thewitchescookery3 жыл бұрын
I can try to make a video that touches upon that but to be honest, as with everything in witchcraft, you need nothing in order to do it :) no cloaks, or other equipment. Just yourself and intention 💚
