❤️I'm sure you've already don't this (and people reading the comments), but... if you haven't, please make sure you get your jewelry re-appraised. I was shocked at what my wedding set was worth a few years ago (purchased in 2005). It was literally double what we paid for it. Thankfully I had somebody tell me to get it checked, so I could make sure _that_ and my other jewelry was covered by my homeowners insurance (a jewelry floater). Hopefully that helps somebody... would hate for somebody to have something happen to their special jewelry and then find out that their insurance wasn't enough to get it replaced. ❤️ Take Care

I think it's actually just a matter of preference. Some people literally don't care about jewelry and the wedding/engagement ring is only about the symbology- not a fashion statement. Others like to upgrade the way you did, which is what I did, although I didn't get a bigger center stone. I had a three stone ring and I just had the stones reset in another setting with a pave halo. For a lot of people they like to upgrade because it is first a symbol of your love, but also symbolic of your accomplishments and the life you have built with your spouse. For a while, the anniversary band was popular. People would keep their wedding band and engagement ring, but add a diamond pave band to symbolize a significant wedding anniversary. I think it's whatever people want to do.
@maryvblair3 жыл бұрын
My mom got a new engagement ring for 25 years and a new wedding band at 30 years. (Partly because her fingers got a little bigger as she got older and her wedding band didn’t fit anymore) She had her original engagement ring turned into a beautiful right-hand ring, and I think that was a great way to preserve it. Her ring had a center stone and ten diamonds around it (added on their 10th anniversary) in a rectangular shape, and the jeweler put it in a beautiful shape of a circle, and it kind of looks like a flower. She plans to hand it off to my brother if he wants to get engaged, and if he wants to keep it the way it is that’s fine but she’s okay if he wants to change it. Just wanted to share that little story because it’s such a wonderful thing to be able to upgrade your rings but keep the originals for sentimental reasons.

I love that you talked about moissanite! I have a moissanite and sadly so many people think they are a fake ring or have this idea that it's for people who cannot afford diamonds when in reality a lot of people like myself own both, they each have their own pros and cons! Even for people who choose moissanite purely for the cost-benefit because they can't afford a diamond, it is still a gorgeous stone and in no way anything to be ashamed of! Also, I don't know too much about this but I have heard moissanite in the smaller stones does not hold up as well, perhaps that's why your moissanite eternity band didn't hold up as well, my jeweler recommended using diamonds for side stones, eternity bands or any stones below a carat instead of moissanite.

@@Hannah-pz5wp I mean its a different stone so no not a fake diamond lol. But in terms of do people use it in place of a diamond because it’s affordable absolutely! Some use it and say it is a diamond as well which is why I understand your comment, it can for sure be classified as diamond passing! My comment was just highlighting that there are also people who appreciate the stone and also own diamonds and can afford them but still purchase moissanite for pieces. I think white sapphire is a beautiful stone, could it pass for a low quality diamond? Sure. Doesn’t diminish its value or beauty as a stone.
@Allicatxo132 жыл бұрын
@@Hannah-pz5wp No. It's not. It's a different stone completely. A lab created diamond generally costs less than a comparable moissanite. I prefer moissanite to diamonds because of the rainbow refraction and sparkle. Diamonds are comparatively lackluster. Plus, a natural moissanite is rare, a diamond is not. That's a myth perpetuated by the diamond industry. Moissanite is also conflict free, and it comes from space. Was found in a meteor. As someone heavily into astrophysics, this makes it way more special. It is like wearing a little piece of space. You can prefer diamonds, but down downgrade a moissanite to a fake diamond. A Cubic Zirconia is a fake diamond.

As a woman in my early thirties who has always worked hard and also loves fine jewelry, I totally agree with all the other comments here about not apologizing or having to explain how you choose to spend your hard-earned money. I might also be biased, but fine jewelry can also be one of the best investments, when done right. I'm wearing many hats, but one includes working for a diamond services company. I wanted to share some quick tidbits/helpful hints for anyone here that's engagement ring/upgrade shopping like you suggested: first, I agree that your eternity band was poorly executed, but it's probably not because it's 14k. 14k is the 2nd hardest wearing of the 3 most common fine/high jewelry metals; platinum is the hardest and 18k is the softest. I wear a 4ct diamond eternity band in 18k white gold every day, and have had no warping, loose stones...etc. If anyone commissions a similar piece, make sure there's enough metal there to support all those stones! Second, elongated fancy cuts (marquise, pears, movals..etc) tend to look (or "face up") larger than round brilliants, princess, or Asscher cuts; they also tend to look whiter and hide inclusions better, all other things being equal. Love that you also highlighted the importance of having a good protection plan from your jeweler - there's peace of mind knowing future cleaning and repairs are covered. Everything was beautiful and happy hunting to everyone shopping! 💍🙂🛍

I thought I could answer more in depth the question about a big gorgeous ring without diamond price, as the daughter of a gemologist/jeweler! Moissanite is probably the closest to the look of an actual diamond, but much cheaper. They do have more sparkle and fire (fire is the rainbow sparkles you'll see reflected back at you, instead of just clear flashes of light). The average person probably won't be able to tell the difference, but someone who knows gems might. It's very hard (9.5 on the MOHS scale, vs 10 for diamonds), and therefore is a good choice for everyday wear. If you love the fire and sparkle of diamonds, go for a moissanite! Cubic zirconia also has a lot of fire and sparkle, and is cheaper than moissanite, but it doesn't last as long. It can get cloudy with time, especially when exposed to lots of hand washing/lotion/oils/etc. It typically won't sparkle as well in "bad" lighting, too. They can be great for a starter ring, but be aware they aren't going to look as sparkly and beautiful in a few years, especially if worn daily. White Sapphire is a popular choice, and a good option for those who love the color of a diamond but don't want as much fire. White sapphires don't have any fire, so their sparkle can look cleaner and less blingy, if that's your style. You can definitely tell the difference between a diamond and a white sapphire, with the difference being more obvious the larger you go. Those are kind of the most popular choices in recent years as diamonds alternatives. I personally have a 2.5 carat equivalent moissanite engagement ring, and absolutely love it. It sparkles like crazy, and was a fraction of the price of a diamond for almost the same look. I've yet to meet anyone that isn't surprised when I tell them it's not a diamond.

The reason the moissanite gems keep falling out of your band is because they're a baguette/emtald cut. typically gems up in a baguett/emerald style have a harder time staying put in the prongs of the setting especially when they're in an eternity band. It's such a shame that eternity bands are so beautiful because regardless of cut they're almost always problematic and end up losing a gem or two throughout the lifetime of the ring. As for the hardness of the metal I'd 100% recommend going platinum if you do end up going to a diamond setting for the eternity ring. I'd also highly recommend you check out lab created diamonds!

My one useless skill is that I can spot a “fake diamond” a mile away. The moissanite just has a very clear glassy reflective look. It’s still beautiful, but diamonds have a subtle gray tone to their shine and i can easily tell. Just think it’s funny that that’s my useless skill considering I’m not even really a jewelry connoisseur 😅. My own engagement ring is a really small (less than .5 carrot) diamond which I still love. I guess my only issue with moissanite is when people use it as a way to get a rock so big that it’s not even believable anymore. Like for you guys being in the profession you are, even the huge moissanite stones- it’s believable that it could be diamond since you guys could afford it. But my brother bought his fiancé a moissanite ring and it’s a whopper and she tries to tell people it’s diamond (not that people are right to be asking in the first place) but it’s just not believable considering she is financially dependent on him and he works a decent job but nothing that would provide for a huge ass diamond ring. It’s like a dead giveaway. I’m with you on the fact that i would rather just say it’s moissanite and love it for what it is than to try and pass it off as a diamond

Girl! I have tiny little fingers, too! 4.5 to 4.75... The struggle is real for costume rings. 🤣. My Mom had her original engagement and wedding rings melted and the diamond mounted as a graduation gift. It meant so much, but even more now that she passed.

I chose a Moissanite for my ‘diamonds’, lg middle stone and 2 smaller stones on each size. I absolutely love it. It is ALWAYS glittery. What sold me was that Moissante is an ‘outer space’ stone. I like the weird! I had a friend comment once ‘what do you do, polish that thing every day?!’ snarky comment. She’s not such a good friend now. 🙄

I went with my hubby and helped pick out my ring. I’m super picky about what I like lol. His budget was far more than I ever expected or wanted. He spent about 12k on my engagement ring and another 3k on my wedding band. I love my rings, so much! Your rings are beautiful. I want a moissanite ring now lol.

@@princess3193 No go real or go home. I’ll bet you wear leather handbags. Where do you think that comes from? And don’t tell me it’s more humane, you have no idea how they get the leather.
@princess31933 жыл бұрын
@@nikkil764 Excuse me, you have no idea what I know. I know more than you and actually I don't wear any leather bags, shoes, etc. I buy products that aren't tested on animals and are vegan. I've been vegetarian since I was 16 and have been eating a vegan diet for a while. I would NEVER say leather is more humane, it's horrific and wrong too! I have posted many videos of animal abuse, which most people ignore because it's easier to turn a blind eye than face the fact that they are funding the problem or to try and make some changes in their lives. One video was a cow getting skinned alive by young guys in a poor country so they can make leather, and another was the process of killing crocodiles by ramming metal rods down their spines for stupid bags, wallets, belts, shoes, etc. Also ostriches and snakes get killed. These exotic skins are for Gucci, Prada, and Louis Vuitton to name a few. I also show factory farming and the dairy industry, both of which are horrific also. They are ALL WRONG and all of them should be banned everywhere! I sign petitions daily against animal abuse in hopes to get it all stopped and save animals lives as well as our planet! Nice try sweetie!

@@princess3193 Well good for you. You might be surprised but I used to be a vegan too. Unfortunately I became disillusioned with some of the vegans who were so busy virtue signaling they became rather hostile to anyone who had a different point of view. I didn’t agree with their attacks on other people so I walked away.
@princess31933 жыл бұрын
@@nikkil764 @Monique Lehnhardt Well thank you and I am surprised you used to be vegan. It's unfortunate that some people made you turn away from it. It is a very touchy subject with many people, but try not to let them get to you because the last thing they would really want is to turn you against it. Plus, you want to do it for the animals, the environment, and your overall health. Even if you do some meals a week, that's better than nothing. I know it's very hard to transition, especially with dairy, but there's so many amazing products out now that weren't out when I was younger, so that definitely helps! I strive to cook so that my meals not only taste just like meat/dairy, but beat anyone's meat/dairy dishes. It's hard, but I'm an excellent cook so I've been able to really excel with many vegan dishes that I've made myself. I do watch a lot of vegan KZbinrs, but I always make the recipe my own in some way. There's many good KZbinrs to follow. Some of my favorites are: Ghetto Vegans, Avantegardevegan, Chef Jana, Sarah's Test Kitchen, Connie's RAWsome Kitchen, Thee Burger Dude, Sauce Stache, Sarah's Vegan Kitchen, Edgy Veg, The Vegan Zombie. I've actually met Gaz (Avantegardevegan), and showed him many pics of my vegan dishes and he told me I should open a vegan restaurant lol. I was so shocked he said that, what a compliment coming from him! He is just as sweet in person as he is on camera! Unfortunately I don't have the time, but maybe when I retire I can have one of those trucks lol. You need to try Impossible meat, and Beyond Meat sausages in Hot Italian flavor. Those are two of the best and most realistic vegan meats on the planet. No meat eater would ever know the difference, that's how exact they are and they are so delicious. My bf isn't vegan, but those Hot Italian sausages are his favorite!! Mine too! Second for us is Impossible. I've made their burgers, and meatloaf and Salisbury steaks with their block of meat (see the Ghetto Vegans recipes - I didn't use liquid smoke and I added a few other seasonings & ingredients I had, one being MSG) and they were the bomb! No way anyone on the planet would know they were vegan! My bf said that I made the best meatloaf and Salisbury steaks he's ever had in his life! My parents too lol! Now that's what I strive for, for my vegan dishes to be better than meat! Yay! I don't eat boring and tasteless food. My food is more flavorful than other people's meat/dairy dishes. I recreate hearty and savory meals. There's just no need to eat animals when food like this can been created to taste even better. I'm just so glad we have such amazing products out now so I can replicate many dishes. Another example is, I make Just Egg to taste just like egg lol. Add some black salt, garlic, olive oil, and pepper, and it's the closest thing to egg. I'm obsessed with it. I made a Just Egg omelet with veggies, my fav vegan cheese, vegan bacon, sausage, hash brown, and made that all into a sandwich where I grilled the bread on a pan with vegan butter and I guarantee it will beat anyone else's egg omelet sandwich! My mom actually thought I used egg beater lol. It's that close, and depends how you prepare it too. I've also made vegan shrimp, scallops, the Gardein fish (I love to beer battered & fry all of them), replica Popeyes spicy chicken sandwich (my bf said the sauce was spot on, woo!), chicken parm, meatball subs, pizza, eggplant, lasagna with my homemade ricotta cheese, onion soup where I made the soup taste just like one I loved when I was 16 and stopped eating it after I realized it was made with beef broth, chicken soup, pho soup, spinach Alfredo pasta, steak and cheese subs, mac n cheese, broccoli and cheese quiche, hashbrown casserole, ice cream pie, ice cream shakes, even vegan mayo, etc! I have made so many recipes I cannot even think of them all. Next to tackle is homemade mozzarella cheese, and steak with washed seitan. I've used the powder seitan to make chicken/steak, but washed is a whole other level and is way more realistic but so much more time consuming and I just don't have the time right now to do it. I've also tried vegan bread, but that takes too long too and I'm not as good at baking. I kind of suck at baking actually lol. Vegan cake has given me so much trouble, so I'm done with homemade for now lol! I'm going back to the Duncan Hines box mixes, which most of them are accidentally vegan and I'm still experimenting with vegan egg substitutes. Anyways, I've made sooooo many things that if u have any questions, I would probably be able to help u or steer u in the right direction if you wanted.

Stunning, I must say I had the same idea about east/west but read reviews that they have quality issues so opted out and just wear a band when I want to travel. The bow tie issue is not one that Jewlers like to talk about, I found out about Bow ties when shopping for my pear Diamond which also has bow tie.

Save the rings, definitely! I actually have a gold and emerald ring from my girlfriend, her family are the descendants of pirates, the ring's been passed down for almost 300 years. I've already planned to make it my engagement and wedding ring too. Because actually a lot of the time in earlier time periods, you would get one ring, not more than one. Besides, this ring is big enough already. Lol.
