Please make a video of , 1) How to get a Ontario photo card 2) How to prepare and get a g1 license . It will be helpful for new residents/ students coming to Canada. This can act as a government id (so they no need to carry passport/pr card everywhere)..

Lots of unfortunates here. Some realities of coverage were omitted. So no coverage for eye doctor, no prescription drugs , no physiotherapy, near non existent mental health care. No ambulance (you have to pay) . No dental, (dentist very very expensive in Ontario) no chiropractor. No acupuncture. Caution: You will be hard pressed to find a family doctor after you get ohip. It took me 1.5 years pre Covid. Wait times to see a specialist once you get a family doc to refer you can yield a wait time of many months or years! You have to wait 3 months before OHIP it actually kicks in. I’m living through this and I’m quite likely moving back to southern USA. Ontario healthcare was in crisis before Covid . It’s in severe crisis now. You can easily fall through the cracks. I’m not trying to be negative. These are facts. If you have a cold or a cut you can go to a walk-in clinic. Other than that , it’s a very flawed system without enough money or doctors. If you don’t believe me, one day you will when faced with a more serious or complex issue.

Thanks for chipping in. I mentioned that among other services, dental services, prescriptions are not covered, the link is in the descriptions for everyone to check out further details. Yes that is why additional insurance is still needed to cover all the gaps. I wouldn’t rely on OHIP alone. Healthcare is indeed not as great as I thought, but again, it depends on what you compare it to, as there are countries where coverage is even worse or non-existent. That will perhaps be another video with more details. All the best with your move back!

How can I get OHIP Card for my daughter of 9 years? Which documents are required as 'Proof of Residency in Ontario?'
@LivinginCanada Жыл бұрын
I'm not sure how it works for kids. I'd imagine you just add her to your application as a dependent, but check out their website to make sure. Proof of residency usually includes bank statements, utility bills,..

Okay my girlfriend wants to come visit me in Canada from Ghana Do I have to pay health insurance for her and that how it works or?
@LivinginCanada Жыл бұрын
I would get a travel insurance, I usually get it from insurances like Nomad. It's all online and very easy to purchase (based on number of days). BUT, it's not a full fledged health insurance like OHIP (comparably!), it usually covers basics like emergency treatment, accidents, and has many exclusions.

great video! I am the open work permit holder and the official website said I need to stay 153 days before I can get the OHIP, do you know if it is really the case ? Thanks !
@LivinginCanada2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I remember that that's the case. But during times like these, sometimes there can be special rules. I'm not sure if there are any exceptions or not, so to be sure I would either call or go there and ask them. All the best!

Stupid question I know she said that OHIP is free to an extent, but do I need to pay to get my health card or no? and when I need to renew it is it free or do they charge for that?

Is Canadian company expects insurance from employee before joining company
@LivinginCanada3 жыл бұрын
Hi there! I just made a video related to this question. I don't know any case where a company would expect you to have insurance in place before joining the company, on the contrary, it's oftentimes a benefit that they offer their employees. In case there are any exceptions (e.g. specific jobs/industries), it's best to check with the company directly.

Hi Thanks for the information. One question do we have to fill separate OHIP application for spouse and kids? Each one gets there own card? Or only primary member apply and get Card.
@LivinginCanada2 жыл бұрын
When I & my husband applied OHIP, we each filled out our separate forms. I am not sure if kids need a separate form or not. Adults definitely each get their own card. Hope that helps.

My wife went to Europe in July 2020 and is coming back to Ontario one month less then 2 years. She got covid19 in Europe, her flight got canceled 4 times, then she got sick and ended up in Hospital with hearth triple bypass. Now she recover and is coming back to Ontario. I was wondering if she is still cover under OHIP on her return??? Would anybody know this, do I have to get a private insurance before she arrive?? Thanks

I'm assuming you are not on a student permit either at the moment? Usually the easiest way to get affordable health insurance is via the employer or as a student at a discounted rate. But there are other ways to get insurance, you can check out blue cross insurance which offers health insurance but is not cheap. You can also check out nomad insurance www.worldnomads.com/ca-en/, but you have to see if it offers enough coverage, as people more often buy it for travelling, so it offers more basic coverage for emergencies etc. (not regular checkup/doctor visits). This is quite affordable though. How about getting in touch with your previous insurance that you had via your employer and buy health insurance from them? I am not a financial advisor btw, so the above is just based on my personal knowledge. I hope it helps!

@@LivinginCanada I tried getting insurance while on my 3 month waiting period for Ohip to become effective and it was absolutely crazy high priced. Insurance companies here including auto home are in it to make huge $$$
@LivinginCanada3 жыл бұрын
It is indeed expensive. When I just arrived, there were a few weeks where I didn’t have any coverage, so I got a travel (nomad) insurance which is quite affordable. Of course it only covers very basic emergency services, no doctor visits etc., but better than nothing. Luckily afterwards I was always covered either as student or through work so I didn’t have to fully depend on OHIP.

Ohio is free in Canada ,?as you knew individuals does not pay medical coverage . People pay taxes and the taxes goes to the govt. which in turn pays the hospitals,doctors labs. etc. But as individual we don’t pay !
@LivinginCanada Жыл бұрын
OHIP is free. Correct analysis, effectively it is the residents paying for their healthcare via their taxes.
