Persimmon is my favorite fruit, not only because of its delicious taste n velvety texture, but also because of the color n shape of the fruit. In Chinese paintings,it appears as a fruit that symbolizes prosperity n abundance. Persimmon Christmas pudding is a treat !

In case anyone was wondering why keeping the Persimmon with apple causes it to ripe, it's cos the apple produces a gas called ethylene, an important compound to induce ripening, now that I think about it, should also work with bananas or melons(unfortunately I don't recall the exact reaction😅)

I've tried some of these varieties from the grocery store, but my favorites are still the American persimmons that grow in my area! They are much smaller, but very delicious, and sweeter than any other variety I've tried.

Local fruits are often the best! I believe eating local products can even reduce seasonal allergies, etc., though that might just be honey.

@@anamazing2297American persimmons actually are a lot sweeter. Never actually tried them but the nutrition facts show a much higher calorie and sugar content/100g and less water

In Europe we call them Kaki. I love soft kaki and we have trees of kaki at home. We eat them whole winter. We store them in wooden boxes next to kiwi and we give in each box 3 apple, also in kiwi boxes. Apples helping that kiwi and kaki soften. I love this two fruit becouse they don't need special care, only in spring you must cut branches and that is all. No chemicals needed for cultivating those two.

I think hachiyas are all I've ever had. When I was little my babysitter had a persimmon tree and eating them warm from the sun and so soft they nearly fell apart was amazing, but she said not to eat them unless they were super soft. I never knew there were varieties that could be eaten while still hard!

My local store usually the flat ones when they are in season so I haven't tried this trick with otjer variety.. the flat ones are nice eaten when it is still firm but if you prefer the soft texture, keep the fruits in the freezer overnight, leave it out to thaw a bit then you'll be pleasantly surprised that the flesh has gone really soft it's like eating sweet pudding

Mildly sweet, a little fruity. Some of them have an almost floral taste. They're not super strongly flavoured - what is there is pleasant, to be sure, but I don't know if these would be cultivated if they didn't also have a unique texture. That being said, persimmons are still one of my favourite fruits! Would definitely recommend you try them. Do note that there is no such thing as an over-ripe persimmon. The riper it is, the better it gets.
