LOL! I paused the video, went to my local Green Thumb Nursery (mask on), bought my Dragon Fruit plant (last one they had)...resumed the video and now I learned I have to buy another variety for the fruit to work out!!! LOL!! OK, maybe I will get to Exotica Nursery tomorrow and see what I can work out! TYSM, and God bless this dear sweet man!

I bought my first dragon fruit over 2 years ago, saved some seeds and then put them in a pot, it took months for them to germinate and months for them to actually grow big enough to transplant into something bigger, they are absolutely going crazy outside this summer and will be transplanted into a rectangular container and on a raised, wheeled stand that I can move inside every fall as I am in central Illinois. Now I need to chase down a cutting to hopefully, in time, have an opportunity to try to actually get a fruit.

When I visited Guadalajara, Mexico I bought 10 pitayas to take back to the room. I ate 1 before boarding the metro train and the other 9 magically disappeared. I wish they were easy to find in the US.

For what it's worth--you can purchase starter segments online, around $10 on Amazon, easy to ship. I bought a few several months ago, all grew nicely with neglect, I only kept the soil moist and moderated direct summer sun a little. Growing decent look good.

GMO pitaya?
@IVOrganic5 жыл бұрын
Joan Sturgeon Hello 👋 There May be some GMO varieties?- not sure? We are talking about hybridization & cross-pollination in this lesson (which is not GMO). You & I are ‘crosses’ made between our parents... similar to the new & improved varieties being created my ‘crossing’ good varieties of dragon fruit, planting the seeds, and tasting the resulting fruit to see if it’s better or worse than the parent variety. Also known as natural selection. I hope this helps! Charles 🌱👍
