I mean, it sounds like you've actually written these scripts. Seriously, they're top-notch. There are some KZbin Aquarists that may be fantastic fish keepers, but their videos read like this: "So yeah. Hey. It's super-dude uh Aquarium guy, and yeah. Today we're doin' apistos. Apistos are great. For those of ya that don't know. They're really small, and I like 'em for that reason. Also they're just cool. So yeah. Again, you wanna keep your tank clean, like I do. Um. It's cool...you know..." :/ Anyway, your videos are first rate. Please keep them coming!

Thanks Callen Clarke! To be honest I errrr... do write scripts :D I find it easier to record that way - plan and write the script, record the audio, get the footage, edit, upload, pray - it's my little routine for vids.

I purposely sought out some of these to put in my endler/shrimp breeding tank as another thing to add to my turtle's tanks for her to munch on when she comes across one (yeah, my one turtle has access to several tanks, I didn't punctuate "turtle's tanks" wrong). I only just got the snails about a month ago and already I've seen clutches of eggs hatch out, haven't fed any to the turtle yet, I'm sure she'll love them! She's a midland painted turtle named Shelly in case you were wondering ❤🐢❤

Everything I keep in my fishroom have a purpose, I keep these snails because I like their look and how good they are at controlling the algae in my 40 litre tank, I tackle the prolific breeding by feeding the largest to my yoyo loaches in my 125 litre tank it's a great way of turning something many see as a problem into a great food source homegrown for my fish!

@JTCT371
@JTCT371 4 ай бұрын
When they become "pests" it usually means that its an issue with the one doing the feeding. Their numbers are controllable. The idea is to allow their numbers to rise when the food source is there, and to decline when the cleanup is finished. It works if you have self control with making sure any other food source is scarce to nonexistent.

i got some blue ramshorn to go along as tankmates for my neo shrimps and i absolutely love them. i tried something like nerites before and hated them. alot of snails have something that i dont like, for example they are slow, or they ruin my driftwood with eggs or they burrow into the sand getting plants unrooted or they poop more than they clean because they re so slow or their population is getting out of control fast . ramshorn tho i absolutely love. they look gorgeous, they are fast moving and fun to watch, they clean and even populationwise its really not that hard to keep them under control or remove snails to sell. you can just drop some nice veggie into the tank and a couple hours come back and have a clump of snails sitting on it so you can take out a clump of them at once. at first i was scared of snails because everyone sees them as pest but to be honest. i took more of a houseplant approach to it. snails are incredibly important to get a nice ecosystem going. if you have plants in a terrarium or in the garden you have stuff like worms or isopods working around making your enviroment thrive and keep it clean and snails kind of do exactly the same thing.

When these are small they have very thin shells, it's very easy to simply tap one with the back of a spoon or something slightly heavy and it will split open exposing very nutritious innards for your Betta fish.

I picked up some ramshorns from a plant I bought at a local fish store (or more likely it had eggsacks on it rather than actual snails). I had put the plant in my shrimp tank, so the water parameters were favorable for snails as well. I got so many snails that when I bought myself a betta fish, I tossed a couple of ramshorns in his tank as well. The betta tank has acidic water (around 6.5) and its very soft water at that, so I didn't think the ramshorns would do well, but it didn't matter, they would clean up uneaten food and if they didn't survive long I could just get some more from my shrimp tank to continue on the work of keeping the betta tank clean. Well, as it happens, soft acidic water has in no way inhibited their desire or ability to breed like crazy, so now there are an insane number of baby snails in my betta tank. At first I figured that was fine, the betta will just eat them and then I won't have to feed him external food. But no, I just so happened to have the most peaceful and chill betta fish to ever exist. I have never seen this betta flare at anything at all despite my best efforts, he certainly won't flare at the snails, even when they are occupying his favorite resting spot. He might stare at them intently, but he won't flare at them, won't attack them, won't do anything at all to them. And he won't eat the baby snails. I had to be out of town for a few days last week and I figured he'd be fine without anybody feeding him since he could feed on the baby snails, but no, when I got home he was absolutely starving, he clearly hadn't eaten any of the baby snails. *sigh* There's a certain charm to a betta being so peaceful, but in this case it worked to his detriment. So now I have to manually remove the baby snails on a daily basis. But I suspect the Endler's in my shrimp tank might be eating the babies, as I noticed the snail population in that tank has actually fallen off precipitously. While I had been removing adult snails from the tank when they got up near the surface, there are still enough that there are always eggsacks about, yet finding a small snail crawling about is rare. And I notice the Endler's never eat any of the fish food I put in the tank, so they are clearly eating *something* within the tank. Although it's a very mature tank with plenty of things naturally occurring in there for them to eat, but I suspect part of their diet is baby ramshorns. Which is fine. I was never looking for ramshorn snails in the first place, it was an accidental introduction, so if the Endler's end up eating them to extinction, I am not bothered by it. Except that the betta tank now has a population explosion, so I don't think I will ever run out of ramshorns at this point....

All snails give me goosebumps so i never wanted them until my nephew pressured me to get so i did some research and eventually I ordered 3 blue ramshorn last week but today I happened to find out 1 of them had died and the shell was cracked. I assume it was through me buying new live plants yesterday which had 6 hitchhiking pond snails and 1 nerite which carried these white small leeches, possibly ammonia from me digging up the substrate to plant or it was from calcium problems.
@comment.highlighted
@comment.highlighted Жыл бұрын
@@AsianAmericanGuy If the shell was cracked, then most likely it encountered physical trauma. Maybe through rearranging your aquascape while planting. I’ve killed several Ramshorn snails by accidentally crunching them as I adjust my tank, but I have Puffer fishes to eat them up 🙂 The white small leeches may be detritus worms or planaria. If you have shrimp in your tank, then you don’t want planaria.

@@comment.highlighted damnnn now that I think about it when I was planting I may of crushed it. Since there was 1 snail sitting behind the objects I was trying to hide in the fishtank a sponge filter and heater I was planting in the front of the sponge filter during the process frustrated me since the plants kept up rooting. This afternoon I noticed 1 of the snails haven't moved since last night so I checked on it and it was empty.

When I was a kid centuries ago, I had a fishtank and these Ramshorn snails appeared seemingly out of nowhere. They did breed and seemed to be doing a pretty good job cleaning algae from the tank. Being a dinosaur kid using the term loosely (before Jurassic Park, when that wasn't every kid) I kept thinking of Ammonites, which are supposed to be extinct. I never saw them in the pet stores, must be because they plucked them out and nobody sold them. So it was all a bit of a mystery. Curiously... they seemed to act like Ammonites too, and be able to float around and then drop down to the floor when they wanted to.

Thank you for this interesting video! I like how you didn't rush us through the video, but simply explained it all calmly. I like that so much more! Back when I started the pond in my garden, I was already told ramshorn snails are ideal in the pond for algae clean -up. I just knew about brown ramshorn snails though. It wasn't until I was looking into making a terrarium and perhaps an aquarium, that I found there are various colours! So... I'm starting a snails tank 😁

I'm setting up a native species tank, I'm in New England. Just a small Bullhead catfish. I collected some plants and mud from a couple of local ponds. I got two Ramshorn's. They're currently in a small tank with the catfish. He's been eating the offspring once they're big enough to be noticed. The adults he leaves alone, too big. There's egg clusters all over the glass too. I also found three tiny freshwater clams, I'm hoping they can last a week or so while I get the big tank up and running.

The most surprising thing to me was ramshorns don't all act the same. I took a bright pink one from my guppy tank and put it in with my betta and he cruised all over night and day. Unfortunately, the betta got him and I tried again a few weeks later with a less vibrant one. He moves more slowly and isn't as adventurous. Luckily, the betta doesn't seem to notice him. I guess it makes sense, mystery snails seem to have 'personalities' so why not ramshorn snails as well!

What I read on the internet, it seems that Bladder Snails are more prolific than Ramshorn Snails. I've personally had a single baby bladder snail grow up and laid eggs on its own (self-fertilization). Now I have an unlimited supply, but I am going to go catch some wild ones (where I caught them years ago), to add some genetic diversity, strictly for their health.

Very good informative video! I recently got (at leasts) two of these ninja snails as passengers on java ferns and Im already scared of them becoming a swarm :P I already caught one and deposited it a jar (with food!) while I find the other small one(s) and decide on what to do with them.. also I dont really want to just kill them. Tank goes thru a diatom phase so theres sufficient food a lot more snails. Two things Id want touched in these kind of video are if they can outcompete other soft algae eaters like otocinclus and if they can damage filter impellers by getting sucked in while they are really small.

Ramshorns are a pain in the arse, most people encounter them as cuckoos arriving on a plant or in some live food and if they happen to have copious plant life there stuck with controlling the numbers. As far as survival goes they could happily manage in a puddle as long as it didn't dry up, if you go on holiday for six months the snails will be the only thing alive and booming in your tank on your return. They do have some amusing habits though.. they tend to ride the currents in the tanks as a means of getting around and when they double or treble up to make a snail raft or cling to a bit of duck weed flying round like Mary Poppins its almost worth the maintenance..almost. Also my Corys play a strange version of football with them..

Hey John! The copepods were a bit of an accident as I was trying to establish a good variety of detritus worms in the tank. I knew I wanted as healthy a sort of eco system setup as I could manage, so put just a bit of mud and leaves from the bottom of a pond in the tank when I set it up. I got the fauna I wanted... lots of detritivores... and the copepods too.

I remove any snail I see in my tanks once it reaches about the size of a small pea (under 1cm in diameter) to stop there being a massive number of eggs laid. Then when numbers get low I let one adult stay and lay a few egg patches, then remove that one too. Labour intensive yes, but kind of therapeutic too.

The Fifth Day: Fish and Birds 20And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven. 21And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good. 22And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth. 23And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.
