I was soo excited when i found wild ramshorn snails. Now I raise them. I liked bladder snails too, and they have their purpose, but they seem to like to crawl out of the tank and also though tubing and filter hoses and stuff, which can be good if you can keep them out of the places you don't want them, because they will go everywhere else, but i consider them best for a sponge filter only aquarium. For ramshorn, I just love them. They are slow and get "big" (compared to bladder snails).

We introduced a few ramhorn snails into our betta tank and they cleaned up the algae on the anubias leaves in no time. We were really interested in the ramhorn snails when we first got them so we fed them very small pieces of apple with the skin left on just out of curiousity. I was amazed how quickly they could find the food in the tank and it was fascinating to watch their feeding and mating behaviours too. We decided to stop feeding them apple as we have too many snails now but we do love them, so we will be keeping them in our betta tank indefinitely. I recently found your channel and it has quality content and is very entertaining. Thank you Subscribed.

Thank-you for this video! I have bladder, pond and ramshorn in my tank, none of which I purchased. The other day I saw a trumpet snail. This video is so helpful because I had no idea how many snails is too many. I was panicking when I counted 8. I took out 2 larger ones and put them in my outdoor fountain and removed an egg clump but now I won't freak out just yet. I have fry in my tank so I'm balancing getting them enough to eat and not over feeding. I love it when they catch a ride on a floating plant that gets in the water flow and surf across the tank. It's hilarious

At what point should I start removing snails? I have 100-150 snails in a 10 gallon guppy tank with red cherry shrimp. I never do water changes, just top offs. The snails are multi colored red blue pink. Also I've pulled out over a 100 of these solid brown snails. The tank must be good because the guppies breed like crazy. I had to start up 2 outside tubs to put guppies in and they too are breeding like crazy. I think im going to try and sell them before winter comes because I don't have any more room for tanks. Im just not sure if it can turn into a bad thing in such a small tank with the snails? As always I appreciate your opinion. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with beginners. Wishing you the best 🙏👍

Going to try them in my discus paludarium. It is 29 celcius, but the mini ramshorns seem to survive in it. I do have a constant melting plant problem in there that clogs up my canisters. I have aquarium plants growing in ponds outside and when I bring the plants inside and they convert from emersed to submersed they loose and melt a lot of leaves. I give my ramshorns a human calcium pill once a month. All my tanks ph is 6.4.

I can totally see how they can be beneficial but having an outbreak in my corydora breeding tank is a nightmare. No matter how much snello I try to distract them with they always find a way to eat half the eggs overnight 😭 I’m just lucky my Pygmy corys pop out like 50 eggs every day 😂

Please don't tell people that bladder snails are the same as pond snails because they are completely different animals. Bladder snails are very small rarely getting larger than one centimeter and they do not eat live healthy plants. But pond snails can grow up to 1 to 3" and will attack healthy plants.
@Fishtory
@Fishtory 3 жыл бұрын
They're very similar in aquaria but did you listen to the whole episode? I explain how they differ. Although I've never had the type from the hobby eat My plants .. there are like a few dozen species mistaken for both bladder and pond snails... however mystery snails or apple snails those things munch all my plants

Snails do indeed carry worms (nematodes) frequently. Puffers have evolved to have highly acidic stomachs to kill a lot of parasites, but if you see any sinking in the belly or red worms in the cloaca, then I would probably treat with fenbendizol or flubendizole

It does start to look disgusting after a few weeks, and ill clean half a side...wait another week then repeat. But on a barebottom glass tank, it all becomes soil basically, and means more surface area for bacteria than plain glass. It's sort of all or nothing as i see it....clean it all 2 or 3 days a week or let it build into a layer that then inoculates any new fecal or botanical debris
